Course Development: SPH 1905, Noise Pollution: Effects on Society, undergraduate course designed to help the student recognize the effects of noise on our environment, how to measure and evaluate noise situations, and national, state, local legislation associated with noise. Director, Hearing Conservation Program for developing and implementing the campus-wide Hearing Conservation Plan as required for compliance with the Occupational Health Safety Administration (OSHA). Community Hearing Screening (October 2008, 2009, 2010). Coordinate and supervise auditory (hearing) screenings for approximately 100 Schuyler County Head Start pre-school students. Screenings in 2008 incorporated otoacoustic emissions (OAE) screening, the most advanced and universally accepted state-ofthe art auditory hearing screening technology. Reviewer (by invitation) of applications for the 2008 and 2009 Audiology/Hearing Science Research Travel Award (ARTA) sponsored by ASHA. Winners in three research doctoral or postdoctoral settings received a travel stipend to the annual ASHA convention. Review criteria included curriculum vitae detailing research and clinical activities, a two-page essay describing research interests and any further research goals in audiology or hearing science, and a letter of recommendation from the primary mentor. American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Member, ASHA Special Interest Division 8, Hearing Conservation and Occupational Audiology. It is the mission of the Special Interest Division on Hearing Conservation and Occupational Audiology to prevent hearing impairment from exposure to noise and other toxic agents by: increasing understanding of the problem and knowledge of effective intervention strategies, monitoring and promoting appropriate regulatory activity and legislation, educating the public and related professionals, facilitating communication within ASHA and among related professional organizations, promoting excellence in hearing conservation, and promoting needed research.
