2 It s a gnarly project for a business school Thinking of it as a tree house came tripping out of my head on the spur of the moment and was not contrived. But on reflection the metaphor may be apt. A growing, learning organism with many branches of thought; some robust, and some ephemeral and delicate. Frank Gehry Gehry Partners

34 STRATEGIC SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT STUDENT PROFILE Lauren Hooke Master of Business in Operations and Supply Chain Management Manager Corporate Projects StarTrack I was initially tossing up between a few universities and went along to a UTS postgrad info night. One of the professors sat down with me and talked at length about my specific situation and what I personally wanted to gain from my studies. I was really impressed with his level of knowledge and the personal interest that he took in making sure I made the right course choice and I signed up that night. 38 ARTS MANAGEMENT STUDENT PROFILE Tazio Centrone Master of Arts Management The fact that there is no other degree quite like this one sets UTS students apart. The subjects within the degree cover a variety of traditional business disciplines, tailored to the Arts and Cultural Industries. Many of these are taught by those with experience not only in their disciplines but in the areas of Leisure, Sport and Tourism, providing expert advice on both fronts. In short, this means that graduates have invaluable knowledge regarding these industries, setting us apart from others in the field. I am currently working as a High School Teacher with a co-ordinator role. In my position, both preparing and teaching lessons as well as the day to day administrative work has meant that time management has been of paramount importance. The balance has been fairly straightforward. Studying part time has meant that I undertake two subjects a week and though it can make for a very full week, it is never unmanageable. The arts sector is comprised of a range of complex creative and cultural industries, which require professionalism and business skills that build operational, strategic and policy innovation.
