4 Keys to Degrees: Educating Two Generations Together Created in 1993 Developed by Dr. Richard Wylie Enrollment: 10 students and their children Admissions process required Each student is provided with: Financial Aid Housing(12 months a year for 4 years) Access to Child Care services Wrap Around support services including: academic support, career counseling, pastoral and personal counseling Specialized workshops in parenting skills, personal finances, nutritional cooking 3 mandatory Internships

6 Program Goals The primary goals of the program are to empower each young parent to: Thrive in an academic and social setting Become an enlightened and committed parent Earn a baccalaureate degree at Endicott College Become economically self-sufficient in a chosen career Become a responsible and contributing member of society Serve as an educational model for other Endicott students, teaching them about single parenthood, including the difficulties involved and success that are achievable with support from the College and community

7 Learning Outcomes Through participation in the program, parents will: Learn to live and interact with other parents and their children Acquire knowledge, skills, and information about opportunities for further education and employment Develop increased confidence and self-esteem to balance work, families, and education Contribute to the community by mentoring other single parents and their families

8 Keys to Degrees Success 100% of program graduates have gone on to full-time employment or graduate school. Below is a list of student majors and their employment status: Business Administration: accounting Communication: underwriting specialist, town newspaper employee, radio and television professionals Computer Science: accounting firm Integrated Studies: medical assistant Nursing: RNs, nurse manager, and in-home private nurse Psychology: social worker Psychology/Education: public school teacher Liberal Studies/Early Childhood Education: special education professional Graduate Studies Pursued: Biotechnology, Criminal Justice, and Education

15 Ascend Fellow at the Aspen Institute Endicott s President Wylie was nominated in 2012 to serve as an Ascend Fellow in Intergenerational Learning Ascend Fellows are a dynamic cohort of cross-sector leaders who are committed to advancing the educational success and economic security of parents and children together They are core partners and leaders with Ascend at The Aspen Institute and participate in four customized leadership forums

16 A Keys to Degrees Student Quote The Keys to Degrees program has been one of the biggest supporters in my life. Keys to Degrees has believed in my success as a single mother and student. The program teaches me everyday how to be more and more independent and how to juggle all of life s demands while still maintaining a good GPA.
