3 1 Faurecia Green IT Classroom powered by Rexel AEPS: an Impact Innovation Program 1.1 Short Summary On June 20th, 2014, Faurecia joined hands with Maverlinn and Netspring, to build the third Faurecia Green IT Classroom in San Xing Center Primary School, located in Yan Tian He, Macheng. Faurecia provided 25 green refurbished computers to the school and realized the children s dream of learning how to use computers. This is another dedication of love from Faurecia. Sam Xia, Vice President of Faurecia Automotive Seating China Division & Deputy General Manager of Faurecia China Operations, Mathias MIEDREICH, President of Asia Division, FECT, Luo Xunshi, General Manager of Rexel Regional and the volunteers from Faurecia and Rexel together with local government attended the opening ceremony. This is the third Faurecia Green IT Classroom in China. In this program, Faurecia first time corporate with Rexel Foundation to provide better solution of power distribution. Rexel Foundation aims to improve the effectiveness of resources and making a better future of them. To support Faurecia Green IT Classroom with continuous electricity, Rexel provided one compact type of solar system. 1.2 Netspring and Green IT classroom program Netspring Social Enterprise Through its Green IT classrooms, computer recycling and e-waste pollution reduction, NETSPRING is a pioneering social enterprise in China which thrives to deliver tangible results. It has developed a sustainable business model capable to help more poverty-stricken children and protect the environment in the long run. Vision Support rural education and help vulnerable groups Support environmental protection and circular economy Be a pioneering and sustainable social enterprise in China Mission Build green IT classrooms and train underprivileged children and their teachers Recycle e-waste in China by arranging for the certified disposal or renewal of obsolete computers Mobilize all stakeholders such as companies, institutions or universities, in our mission 3
4 Green IT Classroom Program The Green IT Classroom program is run by Netspring Social Enterprise. The program is committed to helping children living in poor rural areas or from vulnerable urban communities to realize their dreams to learn how to use computers. Through the Green IT Classroom program, stakeholders are mobilized to provide obsolete computers or related electronic equipment and to fund the set-up and maintenance of these classrooms. Computers that can be refurbished by our professional team will be used in the set-up of IT classrooms for underprivileged children. Those that cannot be refurbished will be dismantled in an environmentally-friendly way by a certified disposal company, and thus contribute to the reduction of e-waste pollution. 1.3 Values Rexel s Values Rexel supports Green Energy with the Rexel Foundation for a better energy future, through this project, Rexel promotes initiative of public interest favoring access to energy efficiency for all on a large scale which will have a significant impact on lives and ecosystems. The AEPS is Rexel s Foundation first project in China. It is supporting better education for underprivileged kids in rural China whilst supporting the PRC XII Five Year Plan for promoting clean and renewable energy. Faurecia s Values Environmental protection is the most important idea of Faurecia. They focusing on controlling the discharging of noxious gas, reducing consume of fuel and making the vehicles more environmental. They are struggling for a clear blue sky for us and for our descendant. Since 2012, Faurecia began to take an active support of Green IT Classroom. Both the Shanghai Jiading Yuhong Primary School Faurecia Green IT Classroom and Wujiang Luxu Primary School Faurecia Green IT Classroom were setup in is Faurecia 20 th anniversary of the successful establishment and operations in China. In the pursuit of perfect technology and industry leadership, Faurecia also tries to make contribution to all the other related fields. The third Faurecia Green IT Classroom is a further commitment from Faurecia to the society. Maverlinn Impact Innovation Program With European roots, Maverlinn Shanghai is a social enterprise which aims at reducing social and environmental issues in China. Our team craft innovative 4
5 strategies to deliver superior value to industry leaders. Maverlinn is committed to promote a model of humane development through constant attention given to personal empowerment and the common good. It is therefore committed to develop qualitative and innovative projects related to social inclusion, education, environment, intercultural communication etc. The Maverlinn Responsible Leadership Program combines theory and practice, to engage and prepare MNCs employees in implementing successful CSR activities: Empower employees through CSR and the Creation of Shared Value so they can effectively lead on the field activities and communicate, for example with underprivileged children, in an appropriate manner. The training focused on Corporate Volunteering to Create Shared Value, followed by on-the-field activities: An in-house classroom to develop children s creativity and a Netspring Green IT classroom to connect them to the world. 2 Faurecia Green IT Classroom powered by Rexel AEPS progress report 2.1 Situation before set-up of IT classroom Located near Wuhan (Hubei province) in Macheng, Sanxing Center Primary School is an all boarding public school serving 10 villages that do not have schools to teach the children. With 1 kindergarten and 6 classes from grade 1 to 6, there are about 227 students of which some only go back to their families once a year due to the remote location of their hometown and the financial situation of their families. The school counts 25 teachers. 5
6 Due to the lack of computer equipment, the school has not been able to provide IT class for a long time, even though computer knowledge and skills are essential to keep pace with the ever-changing world. The children are all longing for using computers and internet to broaden their views. 2.2 Provided equipment Solar plant AEPS powered by Rexel S/N. We provided the best quality of computers in 6
7 our warehouse. There are 25 refurbished laptops were used to setup Faurecia Green IT Classroom in SanXing Center Primary School. These 25 laptops were installed UBUNTU system. The Feedback from the school administration is very positive. 2.4 Computer classes organization The school used IT Classroom as a multi-media classroom as they doesn t have specialized IT teacher. The kids from 1 Grade to 3 Grade will have the music lesson in IT Classroom twice a week, the teacher teach the kids singing and watch music videos via computers. The kids from 4 Grade to 6 Grade will have the drawing lesson in the IT Classroom twice a week. Kids use the computer software to painting and search the masterpiece on Internet. The students will have the Lesson in this Classroom as well as IT class to be familiar with computer operating. 8 From the beginning of September to the end of January, there are more than 200 kids in the school had the and class in the Faurecia Green IT classroom and totally 360 class-hours. Netspring in partnership with Maverlinn is proud to be supported by FAURECIA and REXEL for a project reducing e-waste and enhancing underprivileged children education.
