Those wanting to develop a business idea with a view to starting their own small business in the future, or Anyone interested in developing business management skills as they apply to a small business. 2 FLEXIBLE ONLINE LEARNING BSB40407 CERTIFICATE IV IN SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT In consultation with an experienced Business Counsellor an individual program will be agreed with you based on your business (idea) and skills needs. Clients are provided with access to Kangan Online where they work through the course content, activities and assessment at their own pace. The learning is supported by a Business Counsellor who is contactable by or through appointments in our Flexible Learning Centre at Essendon and Richmond campuses. Additional texts and materials are available to be borrowed from our Library and Learning Centres at each of the Kangan Institute campuses. EVENING CLASSES Evening classes are operated through a number of Kangan Institute campuses for those wishing to focus on Stage 1 of the program. (refer to Program Structure page 3). Each evening group has an experienced Marketing (Monday nights) and Finance (Thursday nights) trainer who will take the group through the 4 core units of Legal & Regulatory Requirements (including taxation), Marketing, Financial Planning and Preparing a Business Plan. Access to some of our online resources is also provided to support group members. Students enrolling in an evening class have ongoing access to our Business Counsellors to complete their Business Plan and assessments for up to 6 months EVENING COURSE PROGRAM Monday and Thursday nights pm 2012 Scheduled Courses March 2012 August 2012 Training Locations Essendon Richmond Essendon Richmond NO TEXT BOOKS REQUIRED There is no requirement to purchase expensive text books. A feature of this course is the free training booklets and planning materials. The course material, assessment booklets, business planning shell and financial forecasting model have been developed and refined over several years and are viewed as industry best practice. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) We encourage all to do the training for the experience and the business plan assistance however RPL is available if your qualifications and skills can be shown to be the equivalent of the course s learning outcomes. 3 SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM STRUCTURE Our Small Business Management programs are based on the units of study contained in the Certificate IV in Small Business Management, a nationally recognised course and the primary qualification for small business management. The program is offered in two stages STAGE 1 covers the 4 core areas of Small Business Management including the development of a Business Plan for your business (idea). STAGE 2 allows the client to individually tailor his/her learning program by choosing from a range of 15 elective units which cover all aspects of Small Business Management. Working with a Business Counsellor clients identify the additional skills necessary to develop the business (idea). Elective units can then be selected to address the identified skills need. For those wanting to achieve the formal qualification of the Certificate IV in Small Business Management 10 units are to be completed. Having completed the 4 core units in Stage 1 an additional 6 units from this list of elective units need to be completed in Stage 2. STAGE 1 CORE UNITS BSBSMB401A Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business BSBSMB402A Plan small business finances BSBSMB403A Market the small business BSBSMB404A Undertake small business planning This unit considers the legal and regulatory issues in managing a small business including legal structure, permits, insurance, superannuation, workcover, taxation, contracts, leases, OH&S and intellectual property. This unit considers financial issues including pricing, break-even, budgeting, financial reports, acquisition of finance and the development of a financial plan. This unit considers marketing issues including identifying target market, segmentation, competitive advantage, SWOT analysis, marketing mix, customer service and monitoring marketing performance This unit helps develop a business plan using a useful template. Confidential individualised support and feedback is provided to support the development of the plan. In the corporate world, Ilona created developed and consolidated categories, managed and trained national sales, customer service and support teams, changed organisational cultures, improved business procedures, developed management information systems, etc. With experience within Sports, Fast Moving Consumer Good, Medical and Service areas, Ilona comes equipped with knowledge covering many markets. She has worked with multi-national corporations through to small, family owned business. In 2002, Ilona decided to take the knowledge to the small business arena set up her own business, Focus Plus Consulting.
