5 THE CITY Moscow the capital of Russia and one of the ten largest cities in the world. Boasting more than 850 years of history - Yury Dolgoruky founded the city in 1146 Moscow has grown into a metropolis of more than 11.6 million people. Despite cold winter temperatures, Moscow s summer climate is perfect for sevens rugby, with average late June temperatures of C and the possibility of significantly warmer days. Moscow is renowned as an international scientific, cultural, business and financial centre boasting a world-class transport and hotel infrastructure. The city is visited by more than 4 million tourists every year, who come for attractions including more than 60 museums and who stay in the city s 300+ hotels. These include the Kremlin Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum. The city is served by three international airports: Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Vnukovo. The largest of these, Sheremetyevo, lies just nine kilometres from the Moscow Ring Road, while Domodedevo is 22 kilometres away and Vnukovo 10. All three are connected to the city centre with regular train services to three of the city s nine major train terminals. Moscow s public transit system is among the world s most developed, and the city s underground rail system boasts 12 lines and 185 stations. The city is also a heralded global sporting centre and has hosted such major international tournaments as the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 2008 UEFA Champions League final, as well as annual World and European Championships in a variety of sports. 9 STADIUM LUZHNIKI STADIUM The Grand Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex in Moscow, or briefly Luzhniki Stadium, is the biggest sports stadium in Russia. Its total seating capacity is 89,318 seats, all covered. The stadium is a part of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, previously called the Central Lenin Stadium The name Luzhniki derives from the flood meadows in the bend of Moskva River where the stadium was built, translating roughly as The Meadows. The stadium is located in Khamovniki District of the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow-city. As part of the Olympic complex Luzhniki also have the Palace of Sport at Luzhniki. Its field is used mainly for football games by Torpedo Moscow club, who also own the sports complex, and Spartak Moscow. It is also one of the few major European stadia to use an artificial pitch, as it installed a FIFAapproved FieldTurf pitch in The pitch is necessary for the cold Russian climate, as regular grass pitches are often destroyed during a typical winter and must be replaced at high cost. However, a temporary natural grass pitch was installed for the 2008 Champions League Final. The 2018 FIFA World Cup has been awarded to Russia and the Luzhniki Stadium has been selected by the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup bid as the venue for the final which will be held on July 8, The stadium will then join Rome s Stadio Olimpico, Munich s Olympic Stadium and London s Wembley Stadium as the only stadia to have hosted the finals of the FIFA World Cup, UEFA s European Cup/ Champions League and featured as a main stadium of the Summer Olympic Games. 9

Unusual Fact (Did you know?): I played with two of my brothers in my club s First Xv and now I m coaching my young brother. Nicolás Bruzzone is one of the most experienced players in the Argentine squad. He has been part of the team for nine years and his participation amounts to 41 Sevens tournaments. He made his debut in the Argentine national teams in 2005 in the U21 category, participating as well in the Sevens competition. The player from the club Universitario Santa Fe played a test match with the Pumas against Chile in the South American tournament and was part of the team that made the tour of France, Italy and Ireland in In 2011 he played with the Pampas XV, who were champions in the Vodacom Cup. 11

Sporting Hero Stephen Larkham. Sporting Hero: I don t have a special one. I admire a lot of sportsmen. Unusual Fact (Did you know?): Scored points in all three games with the national senior team. This young wing from the club Pucará has been having a solid performance in all national teams since he started in the U18. He played the South American Senior tournament with the Pumas in 2012, participating in the three matches of the competition and scoring a total amount of 32 points. During the same year, he was part of the Jaguares team and also made his debut with the Sevens team for the IRB Series, playing six tournaments and repeating the same amount of participations in the current season. 12

Best Rugby Memory: When I played with the JWC and the 2011 Litoral Final Tournament. Sporting Hero: Tana Umaga. Unusual Fact (Did you know?): I played in all Argentinian teams: U19, U20, Jaguars, Pampas XV and Sevens, scoring tries in all this participations. Jerónimo de la Fuente is another valuable example of the players who started in the national teams at a very young age, playing with the U19 team against Chile in 2010, where he scored a try. He participated in the 2011 JWC and the following year was called for the Sevens team. During that season, he performed in the eight stages of the Series and in the current 2013 he played the tournaments carried out in Wellington and Las Vegas. Moreover, he has been part of the Jaguares and Pampas XV teams. 13

RWC Sevens Appearances: 0 Hobbies: Read books and spend time with my friends. Best Rugby Memory: When my club won the Buenos Aires Semifinal in 2002 scoring a penalty in the last minute. Sporting Hero: Javier Spencer Talbois. Unusual Fact (Did you know?): When I was a boy, i didn t have my club s socks, so I have to use my father s. I used to go in the middle of the night to his bedroom to take it, and he complained the other day. Once I confused and I took green ones but my club s are blue!! Francisco Merello is undoubtedly the most experienced man in the squad, having 49 participations in Sevens tournaments since his debut in 2006 and, in addition, he is the only player in the team who played the 2009 Sevens World Series in Dubai. His career in the national teams started in 2003 when he wore the Argentine jersey for the first time as part of the U19 team in the World competition of that category. He played the U21 RWC the two following years. He was part of the Pumas squad from 2007 to 2010, as well as the teams Argentine A and the Jaguares. 14

Best Rugby Memory: First game in his club First XV with his friends Agustín Migliore and Joaquín Miguens. Sporting Hero: Juan Román Riquelme. Unusual Fact (Did you know?): Until 17 years old I used to play college rugby and then I started to play in CUBA, my club right now. Coming from the U19 team that played the 2011 JWC, Matías Moroni has been earning his place in the Sevens national team since his first call in 2012 for the Gold Coast tournament. Being a South American champion this season, he has participated 10 times so far in the Argentine Sevens team. 15

Best Rugby Memory: My first game at IRB JWC. Sporting Hero: Roger Federer. Unusual Fact (Did you know?): In the same year that he played at IRB JWC played his first Sevens torunament in Dubai. Ramiro Moyano has played nine tournaments with the Argentine Sevens team, being his first stage in Dubai in 2010, when he also played the JWC with the U20 team. He was champion in the 2011 Vodacom Cup with the Pampas XV and then participated in the two following cups, playing 19 matches and scoring 11 tries. He also played four test matches and scored six tries with the Pumas in two participations in the XV South American tournament. 16

Unusual Fact (Did you know?): Scored tries in every game he played against Uruguay and Paraguay in U19 and U20 In 2007, Diego Palma made his first steps in the national teams, playing the South American tournament and the JWC. After that, he moved on to the U20 and U21 teams until 2010 when he made his debut with the Sevens team in the Wellington tournament. Since then, he has constantly played in the Sevens teams, having played in 22 tournaments. Moreover, he played two matches with the Pumas, against Uruguay and Chile. 17

After playing with the U19 and U20 junior teams in the 2007 and 2008 World Cups respectively, Aníbal Panceyra Garrido made his debut in the Sevens series in Gold Coast in This year he represented the national team in the South American tournament and he was also present in the six stages of the IRB Series. The stout player shares the team with his brother, Facundo. 18

Unusual Fact (Did you know?): Since 7 years old he played at club and different Provinces and National teams with his brother. Facundo Panceyra Garrido made his debut in a national team with three victories in five matches in the U18 and U19 South American tournaments. After that, he played a match against South Africa with the U20 and in 2012 he was called for the Sevens competition. The coaches called me to the squad at last minute, 4 days before travelling and then I played four of the five games at that tournament. For Ignacio Pasman the year 2008 was the take-off year because, since his participation in the U20 JWC, he played two test matches with the Pumas in the South American Senior competition. The following year, he was called on to play with the Jaguares, being part of the tour of Europe in 2009 and playing three times in the Nations Cup. During 2012 and 2013, he moved on to be part of the Sevens team and participated in nine stages of the series. 20

Unusual Fact (Did you know?): When I was a boy I was scared of tackle and now is one of my best skills. Gastón Revol is another player in the team who has great experience in the sevens category. He was called for the first time in 2010 when he played in the IRB series stages in Dubai and George. Since then, his name has usually appeared in the Sevens team lists and he has participated in 26 tournaments. 21
