4 AFRIKA-STUDIEN Das Ifo-Institut fur Wirtschaftsforschung in Munchen, die grttbte Forschungseinrichtung dieser Art in der Bundesrepublik, hat im FrOhjahr 1961 die Entwicklungslanderforschung in sein Arbeitsprogramm mit aufgenommen. Mit UnterstOtzung der Fritz Thyssen-Stiftung wurde eine nafrika-studienstelle" ins Leben gerufen. Durch Untersuchungen fiber Struktur und Wachstumsmaglichkeiten einzelner afrikanischer Entwickshingslflnder sollen der Enrwkkslungspolitik zusatzliche Infonnationen und zugleich MaBstSbe zur besseren Erfullung ihrer Aufgabe in die Hand gegeben werden. Seit mehr als sieben Jahren sind die Forscher dcs Ifo-Instituts in Afrika tatig. Das Forschungsprogramm umfabt Themen der Volks-, Betriebs- und Rechtswissenschaft, der tropischen Landwirtschaft und ErnShrungswissenschaft, der Ethnologie, Soziologie, Botanik, Zoologie und Geographic Die Forschungsergebnisse haben ihren Hauptniederschlag in der Reihe,,Afrika-Studien" gefunden, an deren Herausgabe madgebende Wissenschaftler verschiedener Disziplinen beteiligt sind. In spring 1961, the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich-the largest research centre of this kind in the Federal Republic - included in its programme the study of developing countries. With the support of the Fritz-Thyssen Foundation, an "African Studies Centre" was established. The centre is designed to carry out studies on the structure and development possibilities of individual African developing countries, thus providing those responsible for development policies with additional information as well as criteria enabling them to accomplish their task in a more efficient manner. For more than seven years the research workers of the Ifo Institute have been undertaking studies in Africa. The interdisciplinary research programme covers topics of economics, business administration and law, tropical agriculture and nutritional science, cultural anthropology, sociology, botany, zoology, and geography. The results of their work have been collected and for the greater part edited in the series "Afrika-Studien". Distinguished scholars of various disciplines are engaged in the preparation of these volumes.
