3 RULES OF THE ROAD XI SEMINAR FACULTY felix d amico Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and Discovery Tactics (PAS Devises, Blood tech s and Checkpoints) Felix D Amico is a former 33 year veteran and retired Sergeant of the San Bernardino County Sheriff s Department, and for the past 5 years has been a consultant on alcohol/drug DUI cases. As a DRE instructor since 1989, he has assisted law enforcement and now defense attorneys on DUI cases involving drugs and alcohol. He has taught drugs and Standardized Field Sobriety tests in 27 national Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) schools and participated and supervised 47 alcohol correlation studies. He coordinated the training of over 250 DREs from his department including their certifications. He coordinated and supervised over a multi-agency task force with over 260 participants for drunk river operations including the Boating Enforcement Operations at the Colorado River, during all major holidays for 10 years which resulted in over 5,000 arrests. He assists attorneys on PAS devises, blood technicians and checkpoint operations on discovery issues, and is well versed on alcohol absorption rates and the metabolism rates of female vs. males drinkers. His knowledge on both the prosecution and defense side of issues should prove to be a valuable asset for this conference. ignacio hernandez California DUI Legislative Update Ignacio Hernandez operates one of the only legislative advocacy firms in Sacramento which also provides individual legal representation. He previously served as Chief of Staff in both the Assembly and State Senate, and as a consultant for the Assembly Public Safety Committee. Before moving to Sacramento, Ignacio taught political science at San Jose State University. He is the current President of the La Raza Lawyers Association of Sacramento and is a member of the California Judicial Council s Criminal Law Advisory Committee. Ms. McMurray also consults and testifies on breath alcohol and breath testing related issues. albert menaster DUI Case Law Update 2008 Albert Menaster has served as a Deputy Public Defender in Los Angeles County since Al writes books, articles and lectures frequently on a wide range of defense topics, including computer technology for defense attorneys, juvenile court practice, Three Strikes, Proposition 36, Courtroom Evidence and Motion Practice. He also writes the technology column, book reviews and other substantive legal articles for CACJ s Forum magazine; and he regularly provides updates on current legal topics for CACJ s Flash. In May of last year he was named the Los Angeles County Bar Associations Defender of the Year. rick mueller Advanced Strategies and Tactics for Handling California DMV APS Cases Rick Mueller is the attorney for the San Diego County DUI Law Center, a Professional Corporation, which focuses on California DUI and DMV law. He has been in practice since 1983 and received his Juris Doctor degree from Chicago Kent College of Law. Rick has been a featured Speaker at seven DUI / DMV seminars in San Diego County in the last several years and is known by many attorneys as a DMV Guru. Rick is an Editorial Consultant to California Drunk Driving Law, the most comprehensive reference book for the law of drunk driving in California. Known as California s Bible of DUI defense, also authored by Ed Kuwatch, Paul Burglin, and Barry Simons, the book features much of Rick s work. Rick is a Specialist member of the California DUI Attorneys Association and the National College for DUI Defense and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Rick speaks at Strategies in Handling DUI Cases seminars, the DUI & Drug Defense seminar, the North San Diego County Bar Association s Drunk Driving - DMV seminars, and the Public Defender s Office DMV - DUI Training seminars. His DMV DUI work has been featured in the Association of California Deuce Defenders materials. He has argued in appellate court, and he actively defends these cases and files DMV writs. bob wilson California DUI Legislative Update Robert Wilson, a partner in the law firm of Hutton and Wilson, has tried over 250 DUI cases and has represented hundreds of individuals before various administrative bodies throughout California. Robert is a frequent lecturer in the field of driving under the influence and alternative sentencing options in the courts of Los Angeles County. He is a past president of the Criminal Courts Bar Association and member of CACJ s Board of Governors.
