4 Our 37th year has been very interesting to organize without using the high school auditoria, because of construction. The biggest concern is our growing attendance for our daytime school programs. This past November, we had booked five school programs at Kelly Walsh for the Jim Gamble Puppet Production of PETER AND THE WOLF. That gave us 3,000 total seats but the reservations caused us to purchase and fill a sixth. Then, in January, it always has worked to have three seatings at NCHS for Soul Street Dance Co. 3,600 seats. However, we had 700 too many teachers and students who wanted to come, so again, we purchased another session, and in the end, the attendance was 4,500! For , Highland Park Community Church is hosting some of our fall artists. Their 1700 seats will really help, especially with the Kenya Safari Acrobats. The last time they came, they used the KW Gym during the day, but ended up with people all over and some turned away for the evening, as the CY Gym was the the only space available. The Industrial Building at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds will host several concerts, again with lots of space for students. It also will have space for a cash bar and dancing for Paper Bird with wonderful harmonies from the three female leads and we ll have the same and look forward to lots of dancing at the Ramkota for the Glenn Miller Orchestra! St. Patrick s Catholic Church will be a beautiful setting for Tenors UnLimited, and Casper College alums Andre Bohren and Susan Powell will get to perform in Wheeler Concert Hall. The Bar J Wranglers will work their magic at Restoration Church. We have an international flavor with Washboard Chaz from New Orleans, Greg Young s Steel Drum Band from California, and the free Japan Day Celebration with Taiko with Toni & Lance, as well as Kuniko Yamamoto s origami and stories. Australian Paul Taylor will be joined by Rod Garnett and world music ensemble Lights Along The Shore; Russian pianist Nina McIntire combines classical and pop music; the Celtic Exhibition will be in March, and Colcannon will come in April. How cool is it that Jeri Sager, Grizabella on Broadway in CATS!, will do a workshop with performers from the Casper College production of that show! And ladies, prepare to be charmed by Kevin Spirtas from Broadway and Days of Our Lives Dr. Craig Wesley! Please explore the information on these and our other talented artists, and please come and be enchanted and energized by live performances! Two on Tap will be sending choreography to local dance students in order for them to join in the performance. Melissa Giattino was a Radio City Rockette, and she and Ron de Stefano think Fred and Ginger with stellar voices! One more dance opportunity there will be a master class for all ages to learn the hula with the Polynesian Paradise Dancers. 2

In the spirit of the troubadours of old, his songs paint vivid portraits and tell fascinating stories that are set in the landscape that stretches from New Orleans to the desert Southwest and north to the Hi-Line of Montana. Drawing on over forty years experience playing music and an academic background in ethnomusicology, Grombacher s work explores the boundaries of musical genres, and he frequently mixes traditions: cowboy songs written as rumbas, polkas or Cajun songs; a piece, inspired by a photograph, that combines spoken word verses and a melodic chorus; a blues-rumba written in the obscure chiastic form; and songs written in Spanish and English. Grombacher also conducts workshops on creativity and festival workshops for musicians on music business topics, and talks on music history, creative writing, music composition and songwriting. He was the recipient of a grant from the Meet the Composer Foundation 24 for work with ARTCORE in Casper Wyoming. Aspen Black played violin in the Maryland Youth Symphony, and studied several instruments and voice as a teen. She was a soloist in church and school choirs, and she was active in musical theater and Madrigals. She recorded two country music albums in Nashville, in 1993 and 1994, which yielded two commercially charting singles and a music video that aired on CMT. Since leaving Nashville, she has recorded five albums and has been nominated for several awards from the Western Music Association and the Academy of Western Artists. Aspen Black takes the mystery out of songs and songwriting in three workshops that are specifically tailored to young students. She is the founding president of the Western Music Association East Coast Chapter, has served for three years as an officer of the Western Music Association Western Wordsmiths Chapter.

29 Monday Sept :30 pm Wheeler Concert Hall, Music Building, Casper College Sponsored by Central Wyoming College, UW Fine Arts Outreach, and the Wyoming Arts Council, "A Rambling Stretch" is a multimedia suite by composer Wyoming native Tyler Gilmore, inspired by the unique beauty of Riverton and the Wind River region. In 2013 Gilmore returned to his home town along with renowned photographer Gary Isaacs to film, photograph, and sound record the area. He then composed music inspired by the imagery. The resulting work weaves together the photos, sound and video, with all original music for a twelve piece chamber jazz ensemble comprised of the top jazz musicians from the western United States. The work is an eight movement suite performed in conjunction with a projected video. Influenced by modern composers such as Mark-Anthony Turnage and 27 Thomas Ades, it strives to communicate the vastness of Wyoming's landscapes along with the deep emotional connection Gilmore feels with the area. The remaining selections for the concert will be original big band scores composed by Gilmore. Tyler Gilmore won the 2009 ASCAP/Columbia College Commission in Honor of Hank Jones and won the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer s Award for three years running 2008, 2009, and His music has been reviewed in DownBeat and performed by Jon Faddis s Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Bobby Watson and The UMKC Concert Jazz Ensemble, The University of Northern Colorado Jazz Band I, The Playground Ensemble, and The Henry Mancini Institute Overture Orchestra, among others. With 10 instruments between them and 53 strings to tune, Otter Creek Peter and Mary Danzig burst onto the national Folk scene in 2012 with back to back hit albums on the Folk Charts. In the four years since the husband and wife duo began playing together, Otter Creek has won multiple awards for their virtuosic instrumentals, adept songwriting, and visionary arrangements of traditional and original tunes. They have drawn praise from around the country, leading one critic to describe them as a duo that is both a technical marvel and tastefully perfect. Their second album Shiver Into Spark (September 2012) has garnered attention as a collection of songs that appeal to the heart and mind as well as the ear and a work of superb musicianship underpinned by stunning technique (Greg Harness, Rootsworld Magazine). Often compared to Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Pete and Anne Sibley, or Tim O Brien, Otter Creek s classical training, combined with Peter s deep roots in the folk tradition enable them to cross boundaries among musical genres. They have performed with the Salt Lake Choral Artists and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society in the Utah and Nevada premieres of Carol Barnett s Bluegrass Mass, and performed with the Utopia Early Music Ensemble in programs that blend classical and folk traditions. They are also sought after session musicians and in addition to frequent studio work have performed on stage with well-known singer songwriters Peter Mayer, Kate MacLeod, and Alicia McGovern and have opened for acts such as Claire Lynch and Mitch Barrett. 28

67 Joe Scott and Hannah Alkire joined forces on the music scene in This confluence of two gifted musicians has resulted in the internationally acclaimed duo, Acoustic Eidolon. Joe Scott performs on a unique, custom designed double-neck guitjo, a banjo/ guitar combination created exclusively by Joe and deemed by USA Today as a beautiful harp-like sounding instrument. like nothing they ve ever heard before. The double-neck guitjo has 14 strings. Joe can play both necks simultaneously, a technique he developed over time which continues to awe his peers as well as Acoustic Eidolon s audiences. Hannah Alkire was classically trained on the cello. She studied with G. Magyar of the Hungarian String Quartet and has won accolades worldwide for her exquisite tone and mesmerizing emotion she puts into each performance. Her inquisitive nature has prompted her to take her cello playing into uncharted territories, risky moves that have continued her reputation as a tour-deforce in cello performance. Acoustic Eidolon calls Colorado home though they have performed extensively throughout the world. They have nine CDs and one DVD to their credit. With a repertoire that defies categories, their signature sound knows no bounds as their music travels through Celtic, World, Latin and Folk music influences. At times, even some Asian tonal poems and hard rock are blended into the mix. Dirty Linen Magazine praises them as a sumptuous musical feast. They are described by the Swallow Hill Music Association as an evening of brilliant instrumentality, and Georgia s Good Life Magazine enthuses, Acoustic Eidolon offers concert-goers a chance to absorb some of the most powerful and intriguing music on the scene today. The convergence of their talents took Joe and Hannah a step further, sharing not only a musical vision but a life vision. They were married in Joe and Hannah s live performances are a direct reflection of their musical and emotional alliances. 65 Tuesday Dec :30 pm Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Co-sponsored by the Parkway Plaza.

He is an authentic player of Aboriginal percussion and didjeridoo, having learned from the last living member of the Wardaman Aboriginal clan who also made Paul an honorary member of his people. Taylor is mentored by Yidumduma (elder) Bill Harney, last male custodian of the Wardaman culture in Australia's Northern Territory. Trained as a social worker, Taylor has spent his life traveling and experiencing cultures from around the world. He also trained in theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, UK and worked professionally as an actor and stage manager in Australia's regional theatres as well as a circus clown performing throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Taylor's talents and dedication to the performing arts have been recognized and endorsed by the state Arts Councils of Texas, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, North and South Carolina, and South Dakota. The sounds of the instrumental quartet Lights Along the Shore resonate with the beauty of lights flickering in villages along the shores of the great rivers of Moldova, and the lights of Laramie, Wyoming shimmering on the expanse of the great American prairie. Blake McGee, Lisa Rickard, Rod Garnett, and Steve Barnhart use a variety of wind instruments in combination with keyboard and percussion to create a unique sound that is highly unexpected yet easily enjoyed. 71 Jalan Crossland is an "endemic Wyoming treasure" (Rita Basom- Wyoming Arts Council). He is widely acclaimed by audiences, critics, and his musical peers as being a premier acoustic guitarist, as well as banjo player, singer-songwriter, and engaging showman. Along with dozens of regional contest awards, his extraordinary guitar work earned him National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship honors in '97 and the State Flatpick Championship title of his home state in In recognition for his contribution to the arts in Wyoming, he was bestowed with the Governor's Arts Award in Thursday Jan :30 pm Central Wyoming Fairgrounds Industrial Building Magazines as far-ranging as the New York Times and No Depression have run features on him, and Paste Magazine included him and his ensemble as being among Wyoming s top bands. He has made numerous television and radio appearances and is portrayed in the short film Wyomericana, which won the Laramie Film Festival in He s been invited as the opening act on two national tours with Texas songwriting legend Robert Earl Keen. Jalan has released 7 albums of primarily his own songs, and performs throughout the U.S. and occasionally Europe, when he takes the notion. To pin any one label on Crossland s body of work would be a crime. It s not country. It s not rock. It sure as hell ain t your daddy s bluegrass! His characters and stories come alive to form an often dark, yet highly humorous interpretation of the American Experience. (Marcus Huff- Laramie Zine) Kanky songs about drinkin, fightin, hobos, roughnecks, trailer park fires, and little neighborhood dogs that bite, are lent their truth-is-stranger-than-fiction wobble by virtue of the fact that Jalan was raised and resides in a rural mountain town, population >300. He casts a sardonic but affectionate eye on the roughhewn lives of Western people. Crossland s Big Horn Mountain Blues is so popular in Wyoming that it is practically the official state song. The band s recent CD The Pooka and the Fiddler received a Parent s Choice Award for its artful interweaving of music and storytelling. The Emmy -award winning PBS special, Colcannon in Concert, filmed at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts has aired nationwide. Colcannon was named ensemble-in-residence at The Colorado College, the first non-classical musical group to be awarded this position. Colcannon has also been part of many collaborative projects they were featured on John McEuen's soundtrack for the television mini-series "The Wild West", as well as on the Western Heritage Award winning album of the same name and The Nashville Network Television special "The Music of the Wild West". The group has provided music for an audio project "Secrets of the World The Good People" featuring Irish master storyteller and folklorist Eddie Lenihan. Colcannon s appeal crosses lines of age, gender and ethnic background. For while the musical focus is on the beautiful wealth of traditional Irish music all acoustic instrumentation, traditional as well as original tunes and songs, with some of the songs in Mick s native Irish language Colcannon s true message is the story of the resilient and joyous human spirit. Colcannon has developed a distinctive, inventive, and contemporary musical style while still keeping in firm touch with the heart and essence of traditional Irish music. Colcannon s concerts are renowned for their energy, for singer/frontman Mick Bolger s irrepressible sense of humor and sly wit, and, of course, for the music; music that expresses flights of joy, deep sorrows, and an unquenchable zest for life. 91 The dance floor will be waiting for you! The first Glenn Miller Orchestra did not make it at all. It was a total and absolute economic failure. But Glenn knew what he wanted, held to that dedication and relentlessly worked to succeed. He launched his second band the one that lives on today in March of The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been a hit ever since. The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930s and 40s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power at theatres, hotels and dance pavilions, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. Glenn disbanded his musical organization in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the Army. There, he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. It went to Europe to entertain servicemen performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15, 1944, Major Miller took off in a single engine plane from Europe to precede his band to France, disappearing over the English Channel, never to be seen again. With the release of the major motion picture THE GLENN MILLER STORY, featuring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6, 1956, and under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn s disappearance, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Since January 2012, vocalist Nick Hilscher leads the band. Just as it was in Glenn s day, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought after big band in the world. 89 Monday April :30 pm Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center Partial funding is from the Wyoming Arts Council through the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming State Legislature, Natrona County School District No. 1, and the Schneider Fund in the Casper Area Community Foundation. Co-sponsored by Wyoming Music. Ivory Fantasy The new Style of Piano Music! Classic music need not always be Classical. Would we connect Michael Jackson with traditional lullabies? And what has an earthy Delta blues to do with the mood of a Norwegian dawn? To find the answers to these questions we need to look into Ivory Fantasy, the latest project of the artist Nina McIntire, who is compositionally fusing the most famous works of great masters of past centuries with modern hits. The result is an incredibly revolutionary style of modern popular piano music with a sound which is so unique, so dynamic, so explosive, the resulting sparks burst into a musical display of fireworks that must be seen and heard to be believed. Fans and followers of Nina McIntire who describe the ease with which she performs on the piano as 'child's play' could often be taken literally. This talented artist and performer, born and raised in St. Petersburg, was playing her first songs on the piano almost before she could walk. 90 This extraordinary musical talent certainly did not go unnoticed when, at the tender age of four, she took up the violin, the instrument which accompanied her during her professional musical studies in Moscow. At the age of 24 she completed her degree in Master of the Fine Arts at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and was soon an extremely sought-after violin soloist, giving concerts world-wide. Her love for the piano has never waned and she has recently been very active on the international music scene as a pianist, presenting her latest project 'Ivory Fantasy', a fascinating combination of classical music and her own compositions arranged in a revolutionary modern style, integrating a variety of musical genres such as ragtime, jazz, pop and blues. The popularity of this project is already reflected in the extremely successful concerts in Finland, Russia, Germany and the United States.

95 Saturday April :30 pm Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Co-sponsored by the Casper Journal. Nathan Baker is the music theory coordinator at Casper College, where he teaches courses in music theory, aural skills, and music technology, as well as offering private lessons in music composition. In addition to his academic interests (featuring research ranging from his master's thesis discovering the logic behind harmonic progressions in Arnold Schoenberg's early atonal music a discovery significant enough to earn a listing in "Who's Who in America" to musical style and meaning in Japanese video games), Baker is an active performer on the trombone. Baker is second trombonist with the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra and the Powder River Symphony, principal trombonist with the Casper Municipal Band, a member of the Dem Bones trombone quartet, and has played with the Blues Brothers, the percussion quintet Sympatico, the Casper Brass and Storm Door Company, and in various musical theatre productions at Utah State University, the University of Oregon, and Casper College. Originally from Missoula, Montana, Baker received the B.Mus. in music education and music composition from Utah State University in 2002, where he studied trombone with Dr. Todd Fallis; earned the M.A. in music theory from the University of Oregon in 2006, where he studied trombone with Dr. Jeff Williams; and completed the coursework for the Ph.D. in music theory and music history from the University of Oregon. 93

96 Thursday May :30 pm Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Partial funding is from the Wyoming Arts Council through the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wyoming State Legislature, Natrona County School District No. 1, and the Schneider Fund in the Casper Area Community Foundation. Hailing from the Great Plains of eastern South Dakota, folk and Americana singer/ songwriter Jami Lynn began performing country jamborees at the age of 13. It took little coaxing from her grandfather to make the transition from the audience to the stage, where old-time country, polka, and regional folk music reigned supreme. A few years later while studying classical voice at The University of South Dakota, Jami recorded her first album, Dreamer. Her undergraduate thesis, Early American Folk Music of the Upper Midwest began as a typical slap-it-together-and-callit good paper turned into an intensive year of research resulting in academic presentations in museums, libraries, and historical societies, and most importantly, the recording of Sodbusters, her second full length album. Inspired by stories of her ancestors trek from the East coast to the Dakota Territory, the title track of Sodbusters offers the perspective of Jami Lynn s great-great grandmother, Lydia Huff. In addition to six original songs, the album features five folk songs from the South Dakota area. A lumbering ballad from the forests of Minnesota, a Norwegian lullaby, an Irish folk tune, and a cowboy ballad from the open range compliment her own artfully crafted folk songs. Sodbusters was not only featured in The Smithsonian s Shared Harmonies Project, but also caught the attention of international critics in France and the Netherlands. Her latest effort, Fall Is a Good Time to Die, is inspired by the landscapes and animals of the Dakota prairie and Black Hills. The album was mixed and edited by Eddie Faris of Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, and self produced by Jami and bandmates Andrew Reinartz (bass) and Dalton Coffey (dobro). Jami Lynn also brings folk music to elementary students through the South Dakota State Arts Council s Artists in the Schools program and Touring Artists program. Jami is currently based out of Spearfish, South Dakota. 94
