Research Activities Vehicle Routing Vehicle routing and distribution planning (dynamic/real-time) Dial-a-ride demand responsive transport emobility location of charging infrastructure, routing of vehicles etc. Maritime logistics Strategic network design in container liner shipping Network transition Terminal operations, i.e. yard logistics and vessel stowage Optimisation of public transport Coordination of timetables and passenger service/transfers New area of interest: Simulation to assess robustness of schedules in for instance port logistics (sea and air) 5 The Danish Maritime Cluster
Transport Optimisation and Transport Engineering Current staff: Oli B. G. Madsen, Professor Harilaos Psaraftis, Professor Allan Larsen, Associate Professor (Head of Section) Min Wen, Assistant Professor Dario Pacino, Assistant Professor Hanne Petersen, Research Scientist Rune Larsen, PostDoc Christos Kontovas, PostDoc Anders Nørrelund Vedsted, Head of Innovation Allan Olsen, Programmer and Project Manager Esben Linde, PhD student Cagatay Iris, PhD student Federico Farina, Scientific Assistant 6 The Danish Maritime Cluster
Educational Activities at DTU Transport The Bachelor of Engineering programme in Traffic and Transport 3½ years professional bachelor programme Includes a ½ year internship The Master of Science programme in Transport and Logistics 2 year full-time study for graduates holding a BSc in Engineering Mathematics-economics Computer Science
Aktivities within the DKMK project Revisions of existing courses in both BEng, BSc and MSc level Development of new courses and thesis subjects Examination of the potentials in establishing a study line in maritime logistics for the MSc programme in Transport and Logistics Coordination to MSc in Naval Architecture PhD-project in Efficient Algorithms for Integrated Container Terminal Activities PhD student Cagatay Iris, project start Feb. 1 st 2013! Initiated a collaboration to APM Terminals 8 The Danish Maritime Cluster
Teaching by the TOT section BSc courses in Danish 13002/13502 Freight Transport and Logistics Intelligent Transport Systems MSc courses in English Simulation in Freight Transportation and Logistics Programming and Transport Optimisation Green Transport Logistics (first time June 2013) Maritime Logistics (13436 Optimisation of Operational Transport Systems) Vehicle Routing and Distribution Planning Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Modelling and Analysis Supervision Primarily of MSc thesis students but also BSc and BEng theses 9 The Danish Maritime Cluster
Ongoing PhD Project: Integrating Container Terminal Problems Conventional hierarchical optimization of sequential operations may result in some infeasible, conflicting or poor solutions: Integration of problems is a challenging, but a promising study aspect. The productivity of quayside operations of container terminals heavily relies on the efficiency of quay cranes operations, and the usage of the berthing area. Two main problems arise in literature for these operations: Berth Allocation Problem (BAP) : Finding a berthing position through berth and determining berthing time (start-end) for each arriving vessel The number of cranes assigned to that vessel (QCAP) affects handling time which is an important parameter of BAP Quay Crane Assignment Problem (QCAP): Defining how many QCs to serve for each vessel through berthing. The assignment can only made in berthing intervals (BAP) The number of QC assignment might change if vessel berths away from desired position (BAP)
Ongoing PhD Project: Integrating Container Terminal Problems: BAP+QCAP Integration of these two problems ( BAP + QCAP) would bring: Effective planning and use of berth area Higher utilization of QC operations Higher throughput (vessels handled per day) Help for better contract planning Accurate data flow for landside operations The expected extensions of the study: Planning and scheduling of operations of assigned Quay Cranes Analyzing the components of QC processing time and its impact on problems Integrating allocation of containers to yard areas problem in order to reduce carriers travel time. Analyzing and optimizing integrated problems under stochastic parameters
