2 God has given each of us talents and abilities that reach their highest fulfillment only when we offer them back in service to Him and to each other. The parish community of Saint Vincent Basilica is blessed to have many active ministries to help us do just that. Please take some time to review the opportunities available in this booklet and prayerfully consider where God may be calling you. These are not all of the ministries available but are those with immediate or on-going needs. f the ministry you are interested in joining is not represented here, call Fr. 3 LTURGCAL MNSTRES Staff Contact: Judy Regula , ext. 10 Pastor: Father Thomas Curry, O.S.B , ext. 13 Parochial Vicar: Father Daniel O Keefe, O.S.B , ext. 12 daniel.okeefe@ .stvincent.edu EXTRAORDNARY MNSTERS OF THE HOLY EUCHARST Sundays Trained and commissioned women or men to assist with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at the Sunday Eucharistic celebration. Weekdays Trained and commissioned women or men to assist with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at the 8:00 a.m. Mass every Monday through Friday ad 8:30 a.m. Saturday. LECTORS Sunday Contact: Maryrose Orange orange6@verizon.net Weekday Contact: Loretta Pastor Adult women or men (age 16 and over) to assist in the celebration of the Eucharist by proclaiming the Scripture readings for each Sunday or weekday Mass. Funeral Contact: Judy Regula , ext. 10 judy.regula@ .stvincent.edu Take care to discharge the ministry you have received in the Lord. Col. 4:17 Adult women or men to proclaim the Scripture readings at funeral Masses. Volunteers should be available in the morning. ALTAR SERVERS Scheduling Contact: Maryrose Orange orange6@verizon.net Sundays Girls or boys (Grade 4 through high school) who assist the celebrant at Sunday Masses and wedding ceremonies. Weekdays Adult women or men who assist at the daily 8:00 a.m. Mass each Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. Mass on Saturday. Funerals Adult women or men who assist the celebrant at Funeral Liturgies. Because of time variations, it helps if volunteers are retired or generally available in the morning. Server Training: Please contact Father Dan to register.
4 CHLDREN S LTURGY OF THE WORD Contact: CLW Coordinator-Alecia Moss leashmo@hotmail.com Leaders are needed for CLW during the Saturday Vigil (5:00 p.m.) and Sunday (9:30 a.m.) Parish Masses. Liturgy of the word provides young children an opportunity to celebrate and hear the Gospel in age appropriate language. Volunteers are prepared to serve as Presiders of the Word by the Parish CLW Coordinator. USHERS Contact: John Butala Men or women (age 16 and over) charged with seeing to the proper order within the church for each celebration. They assist by greeting and finding seating for the worshipers upon arrival. Ushers gather the community s personal offerings after the Liturgy of the Word, distribute weekly bulletins after Masses, and check to ensure that no personal items remain in the pews after a celebration. GFT BEARERS Contact: Any usher assisting at Mass Families are encouraged to participate in the Eucharistic celebration by presenting the gifts during Mass. Please sign the scheduling book located on the podium near the entry to the Basilica. SACRSTANS Contact: Pastor, Father Thomas Curry, O.S.B , ext. 13 tom.curry@ .stvincent.edu Parochial Vicar, Father Daniel O Keefe, O.S.B , ext. 12 daniel.okeefe@ .stvincent.edu So we, though many, are one body in Christ and individually parts of one another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them. Romans 12: 5-6 Parish Sacristans are adult volunteers willing to learn the requirements for the preparation of the celebration of the Eucharist and to see that all is ready for Parish Masses (Saturday 5:00 p.m., Sunday 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.).
5 SOCAL MNSTRES Loving Hearts and Helping Hands Services Staff Contact: Teri Pomerleau , ext. 15 BEREAVEMENT MNSTRES Coordinator: rene Lavin The volunteers in this ministry extend assistance and support to parishioners who have had a death in their immediate family. Volunteers send sympathy cards and call the bereaved family to provide comfort and information that may be helpful during the grief period. FOOD MNSTRY Coordinator: Paula Maloney Those who believed shared. Acts 2: Volunteers in this ministry share in the monthly distribution of food to those in our community who are in need. Each area church is scheduled twice a year. Saint Vincent Basilica Parish sends volunteers one afternoon to the FRESH EXPRESS Program at Prince of Peace Church in Latrobe and one morning to the FOOD PANTRY at the 6th Ward Hose Company in Latrobe. There are also opportunities to help in the HUNGER GARDEN in Madison and with a feeding program in Latrobe. This is a great ministry for families. KNTTNG AND CROCHETNG MNSTRY Coordinator: Ron Patun The volunteers in this ministry knit and/or crochet items to be distributed to nursing home residents and shut-ins of the parish. After that goal is met, items are made for other local organizations. shall no longer call you servants, shall call you friends. John 15: 15 MNSTERS OF CARE Coordinator: Therese Pitterle Volunteers visit or telephone the homebound, ill, and elderly. This ministry is designed to bring care, concern and the good will of Saint Vincent Parish to those visited. They also bring the Eucharist to those who desire it and to the residents of Mountain View Specialty Care Center in Unity Township every other week. Photo used by permission of Green Meadows.
6 NURSNG HOME EUCHARSTC MNSTRY Coordinator: Ron Patun The volunteers in this ministry bring the Eucharist to our brothers and sisters residing in nursing homes within our community. This usually occurs after the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Volunteers must be approved and commissioned by the Pastor as Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. TRANSPORTATON MNSTRY Coordinator: Teri Pomerleau Volunteers provide transportation to Mass and/or parish activities usually on a once monthly basis. Other volunteers provide transportation to doctors appointments or other urgent needs. BREAD BAKERS AND SELLERS Coordinator: Ann Tempio or Ed Kush One of St. Vincent s oldest traditions, volunteers are needed to bake bread on Friday afternoons during Lent and for our the annual Parish Festival in July. Volunteers also sell bread after Masses and Stations of the Cross during Lent. HEALTH MNSTRY Contact: Teri Pomerleau This new ministry is seeking volunteers willing to share a professional health perspective. This ministry will include a Walk to Bethlehem program and Respect Life component. As each one has received a gift use it to serve one another as good stewards of God s varied grace. 1 Peter 4: 8-10 HOSPTAL VSTATON MNSTRY Coordinator: Sara Fromme The volunteers visit hospitalized parishioners. This ministry is designed to bring comfort in prayer to those visited. COMMUNCATONS MNSTRY Contact: Teri Pomerleau Volunteers are needed to photograph and document Parish events and ministries so that we may share our Parish accomplishments and activities with all members of the Parish and the community. Various technologies will be utilized to strengthen the awareness of the parish community.
7 CATHOLC FATH FORMATON Staff Contact: Sharon Bogusz , ext. 16 FAMLY SACRAMENTAL FORMATON TEAMS The Office for Faith Formation is looking for faith-filled and dynamic individuals willing to facilitate family learning stations as part of the Sacramental Formation Workshops. No experience necessary; activity plans and supplies provided; teen volunteers welcome to be teamed up with adults. Sacramental Workshops happen four times a year. MARRAGE SPONSOR COUPLES -- Catholic married couples play an important role in the marriage preparation process. They serve as models, witnesses, mentors, and guides for engaged couples. Sponsor Couples are volunteers (not therapists or marriage counselors) who wish to share their wisdom and experience of the vocation to married life. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. Mark 10:44-45 RCA AND ADULT NTATON SPRTUAL COM- PANONS -- Have you ever experienced the graced moment or hour when someone gave you undivided attention, listened to a segment of your life journey, or held in respect a special prayer experience which you shared with them? This is a description of a spiritual companion. We are looking for men and woman who are willing to serve as spiritual companions for the men and women seeking to become Catholic. YOUTH MNSTRES Staff Contacts: Sharon Bogusz , ext. 16 sharon.bogusz@ .stvincent.edu Tina Komarinski , ext. 17 tina.komarinski@ .stvincent.edu These ministries focus on the personal and spiritual growth of young persons leading them to a deeper relationship with Christ. Through catechesis, prayer, service, social events, and community projects, youth are prepared to participate more fully in the life and mission of the Church. Qualified adult volunteers are needed throughout the year to assist with fund raisers and fellowship events for Junior and Senior High youth groups. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Your light must shine so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father. Matthew 15: JUNOR HGH YOUTH GROUP (Grades 6-8) Students meet regularly for instruction in matters of faith under the supervision of the Director of Faith Formation and direction of the Junior High Youth Group Coordinator. All activities and events are supervised by the Director of Youth Ministry and parent chaperones.
8 SENOR HGH YOUTH GROUP (Grades 9-12) High school teens meet regularly with the Director of Youth Ministry for catechesis and prayer. Activities include events that call youth to community life and service, charge young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today, and focus on the spiritual growth of each young person. MUSC MNSTRY Staff Contact: John Szalewicz , ext 21 ADULT CHOR Adult singers willing to share their vocal talents with others in a choir which provides and leads the music at the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass as well as for special liturgical celebrations. The choir is under professional direction and meets weekly for regular rehearsals. FUNERAL CHOR An adult choir of women and men available during the day to provide music for the celebration of Funeral Masses. Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, so you do unto me. Matthew 26: 40 CANTORS High school age or older singers willing to provide leadership at the Sunday Liturgies (by audition). MUSCANS Those able to play musical instruments at the Liturgy (by audition). HOSPTALTY MNSTRY WELCOME COMMTTEE Contact: Olga Herbert herbert7@comcast.net will sing to the Lord. will sing. Judges 5: 3 A subcommittee of the Stewardship Ministry, volunteers are needed to welcome new parishioners through home visits and help them feel comfortable in the St. Vincent Parish family and local community. FESTVAL WORKERS Contact: Lorraine Proch Festival workers and volunteers are always needed for this annual summer event. Commitment is as little as two hours over the last full weekend in July.

Daniel and the parish staff, wish to thank the subcommittee for putting together this mini-ministry booklet which is an update of the full booklet that was distributed back in May of This is by no means a complete listing of all the parish s ministries, but a sampling of groups that are always in need of new members in order to keep Saint Vincent Basilica a vibrant parish for years to come. Please prayerfully ask God how you can be of maximum service to Him and the parishioners of Saint Vincent Basilica. look forward to meeting you on your faith journey.
