2 Safety in training courses The integration of subjects dealing with health and safety in architects training courses aims at informing future planners and designers about ideas and practices relevant to planning for safety. The need to provide new tools dedicated to building production has been consistently devoted to the implementation of knowledge that until then had preferred a formal training, paying attention to forms and aesthetics, unaware of technological processes that characterize construction site set up stage and safety during execution stage. Safety in training courses The training of Safety Coordinator at project stage, as set by European Directives, aims at creating a professional able to liaise and support the planner in his/her choices focusing on safety. The Safety Coordinator at execution The Safety Coordinator at execution stage must coordinate and liaise with other players in the building process i.e. the developer, the person in charge of Prevention and protection services, workers representative, sub-contractors and external contractors.

The first level needed to develop safety management embedded in planning choices in the light of the newest legal trends connected to Workplace Safety The second level focused on the operational and planning aspects of construction site safety, providing information about risk management in construction sites following topics: - regulations in force on workplace safety and health; - occupational diseases ; - statistics on violations of regulations in construction sites; - risk analysis; - good practices and criteria to set up construction sites and work safely; - methods for the development of safety & coordination plans. This allowed to issue the Faculty regulation offering to all students from different degree courses the chance to achieve, of course by passing exams, the qualification needed to work as Safety Coordinator.

6 In the third part, by working on CAD data, we elaborate simulations of the development of building activities starting from construction site preparation, its logging, the foundations excavation, structural works characterizing the building level by level, up to its finishing, external works completion and site dismantling. These operations caused students great interest, they, trough seminars, are constantly informed of all works courses progress and knowledge of the safety legislation in various countries around the world.

8 From the specific teaching to multidisciplinary approach Training of planners does not limit to a specific discipline but involves other courses providing students all information concerning: practical project management, public works management, contract and specifications preparation, project economic management. The results of the course are put into practice on the occasion of the Laboratory and Final Test during which students fine tune all knowledge acquired in order to write their degree thesis. A particular attention has been paid to the following subjects: Organization of safety in building sites. Site management techniques. Integration of health and safety requirements in planning. Organizing the building site in urban-scale architectural renovation. Problems in Historic buildings restoration sites. PPE design. Temporary works design. Different kinds of Health & Safety files. The assessment of seismic risk in construction sites located in areas subject to frequent earthquakes.

The results of the course are put into practice on the occasion of the Laboratory and Final Test during which students fine tune all knowledge acquired in order to write their degree thesis.
