7 Brief History of Employment and Individuals with Disabilities, roots of rehabilitation The 1500 s mark the early development of workhouses and industrial schools in Europe 1784 first workshop for the Blind started in Paris 1838 First US Sheltered Workshop created at Perkins School for the Blind in Massachusetts 1850 to 1900 Training Schools for the disabled were established in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts 1877 Boston Community Workshops creates new model

12 Business Advisory Council: Purposes To help develop jobs for your clients To track local labor market trends To design and Fund Promotional Materials To help us access Business and Civic Organizations To promote hiring individuals with disabilities To hold Employer Recognition Events To support your organization

13 NY BAC results in 18 months Grew to 18 members from 12 different companies. Helped us develop all 73 jobs for our consumers. Ran a Charity Golf Tournament raising over $10,000 for our agency. Found us good office space, and donated all of furniture for our offices. Had a member join our Board of Directors. Were videotaped for a national training program. Developed and produced our marketing brochures.

14 Oklahoma CE s newest BAC We asked the BAC to help with the following: Open a Thrift Store and Retail Training Program Host a donation drive at their place of business Help us find space to house our office and operation Recruit additional employers for our Business Advisory Council Secure World of Work Career exploration sites Make one employer contact per month Started with 4 business leaders on February 24, 2015 Grew to 6 members on March 31, 2015 Reached 8 members on April 28, 2015 Held 4 donation drives to date Secured 6 WofW tour sites Opened 5 employer development opportunities

16 BAC Member Commitment As an active member of the Community Enterprises Business Advisory Council I agree to make a minimum of one employer contact each month to promote the hiring of people with disabilities that live in our community. I also agree to attend 80% of scheduled meetings.

20 Don is hired as Director of Recruitment for Mohegan Sun Don joins our Southeastern CT BAC Don opens doors to the Casino for employment program. Don joins the Community Enterprises Board Don helps us launch employer based training and placement program at Mohegan Sun We nominate the Sun for national award

21 Don the relationship continues Don has supported CE s mission for 30 years Mohegan Sun receives National Award Don sends me a text that he has two other companies who are interested in our services: L Oreal and Dell Don is a champion for Employment of Individuals With disabilities.
