The Institute also supports programming in Rhode Island. The Institute s mission is to help refugees and immigrants become active participants in the social, political, and economic richness of American life. The IINE Internship Program offers outstanding opportunities for college students, graduate students, and recent graduates. Interns are recruited year round on a semester basis in the Boston, Lowell and Manchester, NH offices. All IINE internships are unpaid. 2 Boston Internships Case Management Internship IIB is currently offering internships through its Resettlement Department to students with demonstrated interest or experience in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. Tasks include cultural and community orientation, assistance with case management (securing housing, applying for temporary financial assistance, advocating for health and social services) and community outreach. Assist reception and placement case managers with client cases. Facilitate cultural reception and orientation of newly arrived refugees. Help to secure furniture and set up apartments for new arrivals. Activate EBT cards for food stamps. Obtain Massachusetts IDs for newly arrived refugees. Assist or accompany refugees with doctor s appointments and with navigating the Greater Boston public transit system. Research appropriate resources for refugees and/or low income families. Assist in registering refugee children for school. Troubleshoot and problem solve case related issues. Complete basic administrative tasks including filing and forms assistance. Driver s License and/or car a plus. Comfort in navigating the Boston area on public transit. Interest in international, refugee and asylee issues. Excellent communication and advocacy skills. Organized with great attention to detail. A command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Bi lingual and bi cultural experience a plus. Fluency in Arabic, French, Spanish, Nepali, or Burmese highly desirable. Development Internship IINE is currently offering internships through its Development Office to students with demonstrated interest or experience in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. This dynamic internship will not only include administrative support to development staff, maintaining awards database and assisting with grant-related projects, but also event planning, managing the donor database, and assisting with marketing plans.
3 Research grant giving foundations to support program expansion efforts and ensure sustainability. Research potential individual donors and review publications for potential leads. Catalogue all research findings. Provide grant proposal assistance by assembling research and internal date, compiling proposal attachments, mailing/hand-delivering proposals and assisting in evaluation analysis. Assist with data analysis for development reporting. Assist with the organization and planning of special events, meetings, conferences and fundraising appeals. Work with the donor database. Help process, track and acknowledge gifts, pledges and donations. Assist in developing marketing and promotional materials. Research potential individual donors and review publications for potential leads. Provide general administrative assistance. Strong writing and research skills. Social media experience. Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment and process unexpected duties and deadlines. Finance & Accounting Internship IINE is currently offering an internship through its Finance Department to students with demonstrated interest or experience in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. Responsibilities include assisting the Financial Manager with daily tasks and on-going projects. Managing finances. Reviewing monthly financial statements. Maximizing use of funds and fund allocations for the organization. Provide general administrative assistance to Executive Team and other departments. Accounting, Finance, Business major required Must have good research, analytical skills and creative Organization, attention to detail and time management skills Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work in a flexible, dynamic environment Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment Graphic Design & Web Development Internship IIB is currently offering internships through its Workforce Development Department to students with demonstrated interest or experience in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. The Bridges to
4 Business Program provides holistic support to low-income entrepreneurs in Massachusetts. The program gives clients business training, one-on-one coaching, and a variety of support services to help start and grow their businesses. Bridges to Business is seeking a Graphic Design & Web Development Intern to work one-on-one with clients needing logo design, professional websites, and social media tools. The platform or languages used to develop websites are left to the discretion of the volunteer, though ideally it will be easily updated and managed by the client. Conduct one-on-one meetings with clients to develop website and graphic designs specific to the entrepreneur s business. Assist Microenterprise team in developing a Web Development curriculum for clients to use after the creation of their website. Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Manager of Microenterprise to discuss client interactions and outcomes of individual web and graphic design projects. Maintain accurate casenotes on each client and input data into database. Design outreach materials for Bridges to Business program and assist in implementing online outreach strategy. Additional tasks may be assigned to the intern at the discretion of the Manager of Microenterprise Access to a computer and the required software for web design and development as needed (left to the discretion of the intern) Previous experience with graphic design and web development (WordPress or similar platform preferred), including social media integration Excellent interpersonal skills, especially in serving clients from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds Creative, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented Strong verbal, written, and visual communications skills Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment Intake & Resource Clinic Internship IIB is currently offering internships through its Intake and Resource Clinic to students with demonstrated interest in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. Responsibilities include performing initial interviews with new clients, helping clients to apply for social benefits, assisting in case management services to asylees, victims of domestic violence, and victims of human trafficking, and providing administrative support to resettlement staff. Perform interviews with new clients and walk ins. Assist newly-arrived clients and asylees with forms assistance and access to public benefits. Serve as a referral source for a wide variety of social service needs.
5 Provide case management services to asylees, victims of domestic violence, and victims of human trafficking. Research, organize and maintain reference information. Occasionally accompany clients to various social service agencies. Provide general office support by way of answering phone calls, drafting correspondence, updating files, and maintaining office space. Provide crisis assessment and crisis intervention. Participate in organization s data collection and performance measurement and evaluation activities. Extremely well organized, detail oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidate must be punctual, personable, responsible, and eager to help. Job Training & Employment Internship IIB is currently offering internships through its Workforce Development Department to students with demonstrated interest in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. One of the primary goals of our clients is to gain employment. In order to do this, the clients need guidance in a variety of ways. The International Institute has a staff of professional employment specialists to assist in and support the job search efforts. Responsibilities include preparing clients to gain credentials needed to enter employment, developing career plans and/or accessing higher education or training. Additional tasks include locating employment openings through extensive contact with employers by working closely with local businesses and industries to facilitate the placement of clients into jobs and on the job training opportunities. May be in charge of weekly information sessions to recruit potential clients into our 2 training programs and our ESOL programs Conduct full assessment and document verification of potential students Teaching Assistant in our English for Employment Program, DESE-funded Program, Hospitality Training Program and Service Industry Training Program Work one-on-one with students to provide support for classroom instruction including helping clients with job applications, resumes and interview practice Employment Specialist working with potential employers and with all clients of the Workforce Development Department to match available positions with clients Research industry trends and job openings Assist Employment Specialists with weekly intakes of new refugee arrivals and asylees Participate in bi-weekly disposition of all clients Participate in WFD activities such as company tours, mock interview days, career fairs, educational workshops, staff meetings, etc. Maintain accurate casenotes on each client and input data into database [Pursuing] BA/MA human services, international relations, hospitality, education related field. Enjoy working with people from diverse cultures (one-on-one and group setting) Ability to handle multiple tasks and to switch gears quickly.

Non-Profit Administration Internship IINE is currently offering internships through its Administrative Office to students with demonstrated interest or experience in serving refugee, asylee and immigrant populations. Responsibilities include recruiting new candidates for the volunteer program, providing administrative support to management and program staff, and assisting with building and office management. Provide contract and grant management & development support Compile In-kind documentation Maintain intern and volunteer recruitment and tracking Database entry and maintenance for quality assurance Provide occasional front-desk assistance (greet, sign-in, and schedule clients as they arrive) Provide general administrative assistance to the executive team consisting of the Administrative Director, Chief Operating Officer, President and CEO, and other Program Officers Draft and edit documents as well as research various topics Assist in organizing internal and external events such as meetings, retreats, trainings, conferences, etc. Candidate must be punctual, personable, responsible, and eager to help Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
