6 Demonstrators The project demonstrates ITS applica0ons at three major events: the South Africa World Cup (2010)in Cape town, the India Commonwealth Games (2010) in Delhi, and the London Olympics (2012). Design, deployment, demonstra0ons and evalua0on involve SA and Indian partners. A. Ricci June

18 The India demonstrator: system concept The Demonstrator has been deployed and tested during the XIX Commonwealth Games and is based on the existing Public Transport infrastructures and services. For the demo purposes, a limited area is considered in Delhi, addressing some Metro and 4 BRT lines totalling some 200 GPS equipped buses and a sample paratransit vehicles fleet (taxi and autorickshaw) of about 60 vehicles A demo vehicle has been added showing of additional functions A. 22 The India demonstrator: ITS control center All the services are centralised in a real- /me monitoring and dispatching Control Centre, thanks to a real- /me GIS like applica/on. The control centre displays on electronic maps the Public Transport Lines paths and stops, the real- /me vehicle GPS posi/ons and other data, the status of vehicles (buses: off schedule; paratransit: booking status). 23 The India demonstrator: service planning PT operator perspec/ve The availability of informa/on depends essen/ally from the genera/on of the public transport service planning database, including line paths on electronic maps, /metables, vehicle du/es and intersec/on with other services. This database is generated by an innova/ve so[ware applica/on shown at the demo. Among its benefits is the op/miza/on of bus resources and the consequent savings in both capital cost of buses and fuel costs. A. Ricci June

24 The India demonstrator: real /me monitoring PT operator perspec/ve Service status is monitored in the Control Centre by a real- /me GPS like applica/on, providing the operator with all informa/on necessary to monitor service status and to define any correc/ve ac/ons aimed at managing the service, such as recovery delays, managing faults, provide informa/on to users etc. Operator can display TVCC installed on board For safety / security reason and be in touch with the driver Operator can send informa/on on bus stop display and on board A. 25 The India demonstrator: infomobility User perspec/ve Users may access informa/on onboard (automa/c next stop informa/on and other informa/on disseminated by the control centre), on electronic displays at stops, on mobile phones, on the web. A new website especially designed for mobile devices allows the users to experience the infomobility applica/ons, including real- /me bus wai/ng /me at all the bus stops of the monitored lines an integrated route planner, providing detailed direc/ons to the des/na/on, integra/ng metro, buses and feeder services. It shows the benefits of mul/modal, integrated informa/on to public transport users to plan and make their trip efficiently. A. Ricci June
