7 OpenLab Project OpenLab brings together the ingredients for an open, general purpose and sustainable large scale shared experimental facility, providing advances to the early and successful prototypes serving the demands of Future Internet Research and including several OneLab testbeds.

11 NITOS NITOS is OpenLab s main wireless testbed. NITOS (Network Implementa@on Testbed using Open Source code) is a wireless experimental testbed that is designed to achieve reproducibility of experimenta@on, while also suppor@ng evalua@on of protocols and applica@ons in real- world sehngs. It has been developed in the city of Volos, Greece by OneLab partner CERTH, in associa@on with NITLab.
12 NITOS Testbed Currently NITOS maintains 50 Wi- Fi Nodes 6 of them are equipped with GNU radios All of them are equipped with temperature, humidity, photo sensors and cameras 5 mobile nodes
13 NITOS Extensions 100 WiFi nodes Extension of the outdoor testbed Development of an indoor(isolated) testbed of an LTE and 3G testbed for with real users Development of a vehicular testbed (WiFi/LTE/ 3G) Cars/Taxis Trains Bicycles (in campus outdoor vehicular testbed)
14 Video over wireless scheme Framework 15 of the wireless nodes are equipped with Logitech cameras C120 USB web- cameras. NITOS aims to provide a Video Framework to support: Monitoring and capturing video streams QoS for video streaming in wireless networks Coopera@on protocol for reliable mul@cast video streams Simple configura@on of coding/decoding transmiked frames

16 ICARUS Nodes We have designed and developed new powerful, radio interface nodes called ICARUS: Linux based Two WiFi cards with open source drivers Support of MIMO wireless cards
17 Chassis Manager Cards Chassis Manager Card is designed with the purpose to control the of wireless nodes (turn on/off the nodes remotely though hkp requests sent directly to the Ethernet port)
18 Chassis Manager Card s Sensors Chassis Manager Cards features mul@ple type of sensors that can be controlled remotely
19 NITLAB sensors Framework NITOS provides its users with the ability to run experiments using the sensors (online) or access real sensor traces by using the NITOS Sensors Toolkit (offline).
20 NITLAB sensors Framework Using the Sensors Toolkit the user can get a graphical representa)on of each measurement set stored in NITOS database. Various sta@s@cal measures are extracted from the corresponding records, such as average humidity and temperature values per sensor or per measurement round.
21 Mobile Nodes We have 5 mobile nodes in NITOS testbed equipped with: Two WiF cards Cameras Sensors The nodes can be controlled remotely by an internet based GUI The mobile nodes can collect sensors measurements while moving around Employed currently in intelligent building control research
22 Environmental measurements NITOS features a vehicular based setup, where cars carry wireless nodes with environmental sensors Mul@ple Road Side Units (RSU) are installed in several places of Volos When a car gets in the rage of an RSU, forwards its measurements to the system
23 Power Grid NITOS Setup NITOS features a setup for Power Grid experiments: Consumer point of view: power consump@on informa@on Networked electric relays Microgrid point of view: control of energy deficit or excess Online determina@on of maximum load per consumer Energy trading capability for coopera@on with inter- connected microgrids or with the macrogrid
24 NITOS Power- metering framework In the of CERTH in Volos we have installed CurrentCost Power Meters, used to measure energy at points. Internet
25 Collect Measurements The data collected in the cloud can then be seen on a web browser or a smartphone.

27 Plug level metering and control We have installed plug level meters/ relays in CERTH UTH campus for device level granularity measurements These Plugwise meters create a mesh ZigBee network and are also used for scheduling of ON/OFF states of the connected device

29 Integrated plaqorm for measurement has been created power monitoring at various granularity levels to support demand- response microgrid control
30 Closing comments Societal challenges will drive ICT research in the future Simple, inexpensive, energy self- sufficient sensing and nodes will generate tons of measurements in Intelligent processing of this data will facilitate control and longer term planning for a ci@zen friendly and sustainable smart- city environment
