4 RATIONALE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIASAT-2 Replace NigeriaSat-1. More demand for high resolution images. Build upon the success of NigeriaSat-1. Acquire NigeriaSat-2 satellite manufacture know-how. Further develop skills in the design and development of satellite technology. Develop indigenous satellite manufacturing capability.

Acquire NigeriaSat-2 satellite manufacture know-how.

One SSTL 100 flight standard training model (the NigeriaSat-X or NX spacecraft), to be built by a group of

7 NigeriaSat-2 Commissioning Commissioning started in Abuja. Calibration and testing activities have been completed. System testing has demonstrated image scheduling, downlink and processing. 7

8 Tested NigeriaSat-2 Capability Detailed 2.5m resolution images with 20km swath Area mosaics can be captured on a single pass (80km x 80km) 8

9 Stereo imaging Wide area imaging at 32m resolution, 300km swath All imaging modes tested successfully in-orbit 9

10 Current Status: KHTT 26 NASRDA engineers were involved in an extensive KHTT programme. NigeriaSat-X was a KHTT-led spacecraft build and test. Ops & MOC KHTTs now operating the Mission Control Centre installed in Abuja to operate N2 & NX. 10

11 NigeriaSat-X Commissioning Commissioning completed September 2011 Operations transferred to Abuja. Image downlinks to Abuja from October Spacecraft functioning Optimally. 11

34 RESPONSE TO FLOOD IN IBADAN On Friday 26 th of August 2011 torrential rain resulted in severe flooding in Ibadan, Oyo State capital in south western Nigeria. Nigerian Red Cross report that about: 30 people died in the disaster 2000 people affected 50 Houses were submerged, 2 Collapsed buildings, collapse of bridges, farm lands washed away, collapse of Eleyele Dam, Pollution of underground water. IBADAN

RESPONSE TO FLOOD IN IBADAN NEMA activated the International Charter Space and Major Disaster on the 29 th of August 2011. (Charter Call 370 ).

35 RESPONSE TO FLOOD IN IBADAN NEMA activated the International Charter Space and Major Disaster on the 29 th of August (Charter Call 370 ). A project manager was appointed from the NASRDA to process the images that were received. Data supplied by the Charter TerraSAR 2011/08/31 RadarSat 1 & /12/28 and 2011/08/31 Spot Image 2011/08/01 and 2011/07/19 Envisat /01/04, 2009/09/02, 2010/06/09, 2010/05/21 and 2010/09/22. Images were processed and results sent to NEMA.
