1 Microsoft Excel 2010 Scavenger Hunt - Beginner The commands in Microsoft Excel 2003 are similar to that of Microsoft Excel 2010 except the placement is different. This scavenger hunt will help you get acquainted to Microsoft Excel Remember, there is always more than one way to complete a task. Launch Microsoft Excel 2010 and notice the new look. 1. Examine the screen. How many items are located on the ribbon interface (the old menu tabs)? Name them: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. 2. The File Tab is new in This is similar to the 2003 File Menu. a. What information does the Info Tab provide? b. What can you find under the Recent Tab? c. What useful templates are located under the New Tab? d. How do I create a new document? Explain. Let s explore some of the commands on the Home Tab. 3. With all Microsoft Excel tabs you can identify their purpose by hovering over the item with your mouse. a. Name at least five items that you would use during the day under this tab. i b. Which icon would you use to insert rows or columns into a spreadsheet? c. Name at least two commands that you are not familiar with and investigate what they do to help you better understand Excel?, d. Where do I go to change the row height or column width under this tab?
2 e. Where icon would you use to change the data into either ascending or descending order? f. What is conditional formatting and how does it work? g. What icon would you use to merge cells? h. Which icon deletes rows? i. What does the AutoSum command do? j. Explain what Fill does? k. What are the options for the Paste command? l. Under the bottom ribbon you will find the words Font and Paragraph among others. If you click the box to the right of those words, what similarities do you notice from Excel 2003? Explain. 4. Take a moment to reflect on the Home Tab commands and how placement of these location of the commands you may use. Let s explore some of the commands under the Insert Tab. a. Name at least five items that you may use under this tab. i b. Which command is new to you? Explain what it is and how it is used? c. What is the purpose of Screenshot? Explain. d. What is the purpose of SmartArt? Explain.

Insert a picture by clicking on the Picture Tab. When the picture is loaded, what new Ribbon Tab appears? i. Once it is clicked, what editing commands are available? i. Where is the back button located in case you want to go back? ii.
