3 3 Introduction Pacom s modular approach to security integration provides unique corporate security solutions for a wide range of applications ranging from single-site alarm management and monitoring, to globally centralized alarm and access control management with integrated video storage and transmission over wide area network. Pacom also provides interface solutions to incorporate third-party alarm, energy management and fire system transactions within the Pacom system. The system offers a unique open design approach that provides the flexibility for organizations to gain scalable centralized security and network management over all of their remote sites with the choice to perform primary alarm monitoring in house, or to out-source the task to a central monitoring provider of their choice. Corporate Overview Pacom Systems Pty Ltd was founded in 1983 and has built its reputation on seamlessly integrating a wide variety of proprietary and third party security elements into a single robust and scalable solution. Pacom now boasts an inspiring collection of references from international customers that have implemented our proven networked alarm interface solutions. Over the years Pacom has developed an impressive compliment of integrated alarm, access control and digital video products. Pacom provides value-added solutions designed to reduce an organisation s recurring operating expenses relating to security management and network operations. From its headquarters in Sydney, Australia, Pacom distributes its product and support worldwide through carefully selected value added system integrators, supporting its worldwide distribution network through regional sales, marketing and technical support centres.

4 4 The Pacom System Pacoms Integrated Security Management system has been developed to provide a seamless security network architecture capable of integrating all aspects of security and building management into a single, multi-user, multi-tasking environment. The Pacom system is ideal for organizations that want an open architecture approach to central station alarm monitoring, but also need to gain or maintain security management control of all of their facilities from a single user interface. If required, the open design of the Pacom system even allows organizations to continue to utilize their existing alarm monitoring automation applications (compatible with most commercially available systems), while utilizing the GMS application to manage and control security over the corporate WAN or Public Telephone Network. This provides a smooth migration into a truly open systems approach to integrated security technology. Ideal for single or multi-site, networked security applications, the Pacom system utilizes existing data communication networks to transmit and receive security-related data. The Pacom system architecture is comprised of three major components: 1. Graphical Monitoring System (GMS), a user-friendly software application that provides complete management control and real-time system status and secuity monitoring of all facilities. 2. Base Station, a Network / PSTN Communication Control Manager used to rout all system messages. 3. From one to ten thousand Networked or Dial-up Field Controllers. All hardware and software components within the Pacom system have been specifically engineered to become an integral part of the customer s existing Local and Wide Area data network. All components of the Pacom system support multiple communication protocols and topologies including, but not limited to X.25, SNA, IP Token Ring and Ethernet LAN/WAN. Figure 1-1 shows one possible setup for a Pacom security system. The figure depicts four remote sites each with a Pacom field controller connected to the base station located at the monitoring site. Primary communications (shown in blue) are via the corporate data network Backup communications (shown in red) are provided via the telephone network. Digital video (shown in green) is streamed directly from the Pacom Witness TM (operating as a video expansion unit) to the monitoring system via the data network. It does not pass through the base station. Also shown is a Disaster Backup Site, a secondary monitoring system that the field controllers will attempt contact after primary and backup comms have failed (refer to Section titled Inherent System Redundancy Design on page 19).

6 6 Graphical Monitoring System Software The primary function of the Pacom Graphical Management System (GMS) software is to provide a central point of monitoring and control to a single or multi-site infrastructure. GMS integration capabilities provide Pacom users with the ability to fully integrate central station alarm monitoring functionality, multi-site networked alarm, access control and ID management, as well as a fully integrated video monitoring and management control module. The Graphical Management System (GMS) software is a native Windows NT based alarm, access control and video monitoring and management control program that provides complete control and realtime system status of all facilities anywhere, anytime. All GMS alarm monitoring and operator event processing functions provide exceptional ease of use at the monitoring end of a multi-location security network. GMS also Figure 1-2. GMS Desktop incorporates a fully integrated access control and ID management application module that provides users with a truly seamless system infrastructure. These applications, combined with a true relational database engine (Microsoft SQL or MSDE), provide security managers easier, more intuitive access to the critical information required. All programmable operating parameters, which make each remote site unique, are also downloadable to remote or locally connected units from a PC via the GMS software. A simple point-and-click will download operating parameters such as alarm zone identification, network and dial backup parameters, user and card access information, etc. Users will also enjoy an exceptionally friendly graphical user interface, which allows GMS operators to remotely control all security devices which are presented in a graphical map format. GMS is divided into several software modules, the more specialized of which are licensed separately. This allows each installation to be tailored to suit the customers specific requirements and budget. GMS ALARM MANAGER is the foundation from which all GMS system applications are built. The sub-modules of GMS ALARM MANAGER are included in GMS ACCESS MANAGER, GMS CENTRAL STATION MANAGER and GMS ENTERPRISE MANAGER.

7 7 GMS Alarm Manager The core module of GMS is the ALARM MANAGER. It is specifically designed to provide GMS users with complete centralised alarm management control over their entire wide area networked security system via a user friendly graphical user interface. GMS ALARM MANAGER users will enjoy the ease-of-use provided by an impressive graphical user interface that provides point-and-click control over all local or remotely connected WAN security controllers via Pacom Systems renowned System Summary module. Users also have at their disposal a real-time Transaction Log, Network Status Display and an enhanced report generator. The Sub-modules which comprise the Alarm Manager are as follows: System Summary The System Summary module is used to provide the operator/manager a real-time, graphical, dynamic status of all remote sites within the security network. Trouble situations can be immediately identified and actioned without the confusion usually associated with a vast multi-site monitoring environment. Figure 1-3. System Summary Window

8 8 Transaction Log Monitor The Transaction Log Monitoring module acts as a complement to the System Summary module by displaying a real time record of all transactions made within the system. Messages are colour coded and some can be clicked on to instantly view a video clip or map location that may be associated with the message. Transaction Monitor can be used to create customised site and network element reports. Network Status Module Network Status is used to view current status in a graphical format and configure hardware element parameters of the Base Station Communication Control Modules. The commands are mostly used for configuration and diagnosis of network elements to monitor network performance. Figure 1-4. Transaction Log Monitor Map Editor Module The Map Editor is the integrated GMS drawing program. An array of drawing tools are provided in the toolbox to create a map layout of remote sites. Within this map layout, various alarm points and security device icons can be inserted to identify their position within the site. The icons will dynamically change appearance as the corresponding devices change status. The facility to import Bitmaps, AutoCAD DXF, files etc. is also included. Figure Error! 1-5. 9 9 System Setup Module The commands in the System Setup module are mostly used for configuration and diagnosis of network elements during installation. The System Setup Module provides the ability to upload and download parameters and software to all remote sites eliminating the requirement of having to send field technicians to remote locations to perform firmware upgrades on hardware.

10 10 GMS Access Manager GMS ACCESS MANAGER provides system users with all the features of GMS ALARM MANAGER, with the addition of Pacom s robust and intuitive access control software. It is specifically designed to provide centralized control of the access management requirements of all sites within the installation. In addition, GMS ACCESS MANAGER can be used with Microsoft ΜSDE (supplied with GMS) or Microsoft SQL database (supplied separately) to store staff ID and access privilege information along with statistical information on access control transactions. Statistical data could then be used (for example) to generate a time in attendance report for payroll purposes via fully integrated Seagate Crystal Report template modules. Templates can be tailored to suit your requirements and corporate image. Figure 1-6. 12 12 GMS Central Station Manager In applications where customers wish to perform the task of primary alarm monitoring themselves, GMS CENTRAL STATION MANAGER provides the GMS Event Summary window to provide simple and intuitive alarm response and action instructions to operators. All events are automatically prioritised and displayed in this window as soon as they occur. In a large system network where failures can cause thousands of error messages (one from each network element) a huge amount of data can be sent to the monitoring system in a relatively short amount of time. One of the key advantages of the Pacom system is its ability to prioritize events in order of their importance. GMS will immediately pass a high priority alarm message to the operator even when it has been inundated with less important network error messages. Operators of other systems will usually have to action or acknowledge all of the network status messages before they are aware that the alarm event has taken place. Figure 1-9. 13 13 GMS Enterprise Manager GMS ENTERPRISE MANAGER includes all software modules within GMS ALARM MANAGER, GMS ACCESS MANAGER and GMS CENTRAL STATION MANAGER. Used for performing centralized alarm management, access control management and in-house central station alarm monitoring and response for enterprise-wide integrated security systems. GMS Video Manager (optional feature) GMS VIDEO MANAGER provides the foundation required to initiate engineering partnerships with a variety of CCTV solution manufacturers. This open architecture approach to system integration offers our users endless choice, ultimately delivering a custom integrated solution focused on the application required. GMS VIDEO MANAGER has also been designed to manage and control Pacom s own networked alarm, access control and the video controller: Pacom Witness TM. By combining the proven system features of GMS alarm and access control with Pacom Witness TM, Pacom Systems can now offer our clients a seamless integrated system solution to manage a large range of security needs and applications. 14 14 Other Optional Features Available for GMS Applications GMS ID MANAGER: This software is utilised to capture electronic images of card access ID holders, create badge templates, and print these images on industry standard ID badge printers. GMS VISITOR MANAGER: provides an additional database manager and user interface for users to specifically manage and control access for non-staff cardholders such as visitors, temporary contractors, etc. GMS DATABASE IMPORT MANAGER: Provides users with a graphical user interface/utility designed to import databases of third-party access control and/or central station alarm systems into GMS. GMS GUARD TOUR MANAGER: Define, control, manage and monitor custom Guard Tours across single or multiple sites. GMS IVR MANAGER: The GMS Interactive Voice Response Manager provides an automated interface through the PSTN to allow authorised users to call into the GMS system via a touch-tone phone to perform tasks that would normally be done at a GMS workstation. GMS AUTO-DIAL: Provides interface and internal voice modem for GMS client workstation for auto-dialling pre-programmed response actions of alarm events. SUR-GARD, RADIONICS and REDCARE RECEIVER INTERFACES: Provides serial interface driver for Digital Receivers. GMS VIDEO SWITCHER INTERFACE: Provides serial interface driver and graphical user interface to control third-party video matrix switchers. GMS PAGER INTERFACE: Provides serial interface driver to third-party pager interface controllers. GMS INTERFACE: Provides integrated interface between GMS application and company services.

15 15 Base Station At the heart of all Pacom multi-site, networked security systems is Pacom s unique Base Station. The Base Station architecture provides scalable, open systems solutions specifically designed for wide area network and dial-backup connectivity for multi-site security applications. While the Pacom GMS software provides the user with centralized management control of all security functions, the Pacom base station provides the foundation and architecture that offers the flexible and modular network management control required for today s multi-site, enterprise security solutions. The Pacom Base Station provides a variety of Figure Pacom Base Station redundant disaster recovery solutions, remote system diagnostic control, specialized communication routing techniques and protocol conversion methodologies, the Pacom base station is a must for applications requiring a secure bidirectional link to remotely secured sites. Pacom Campus Solutions While the Pacom Base Station provides the ultimate choice for multi-site networked solutions that encompass large geographical areas (such as state/provincial, national and global applications), smaller more confined geographical applications (LAN) are also a perfect profile for a Pacom solution (such as university campuses, industrial parks, etc.) In many LAN applications (dependant upon the LAN deployment and number of sites), a Pacom TransIT (stand-alone singleunit network controller) may be better suited to providing the solution required. Single-Site Solutions A Pacom system can also provide user-friendly alarm and access control management solutions for single-site applications. Most single-site application solutions may be answered by connecting a Pacom Security Controller (choose from Blue Series or High End Field Controllers) directly to GMS running on a Windows NT server (without the need of a Pacom Base Station).

16 16 Integrated Network Management Software Because of the extensive experience Pacom Systems has had with interfacing to corporate data networks, the GMS software also includes a fully-integrated network management user interface, providing the ability to access and program all data network parameters within any node of the system. Pacom Base Station Architecture A Pacom Base Station is typically comprised of six main components: One pair of CPU cards (one active & one running in hot-standby mode) A number of Network Interface Processor (NIP) cards A number of Dial Backup Processor (PSTN) cards The option of CPU Buffer Cards A number of rack mounted power supply modules The actual number of NIP cards, PSTN cards, buffer cards and power supplies varies, depending on the number of remote facilities and the network topology the customer utilizes within their corporate environment. Each card is a self-contained unit; if one card fails, others will not be affected. Figure Redundant CPU Cards on comm Backplane Network Security and Firewall Protection Pacom s authenticated message protocols ensure that no unauthorized IP messages can be passed through Pacom equipment connected to the customer s network. Pacom message verification is performed in the 1011 Network Interface Processor Cards and Field Controllers, which are the devices that connect to the IP LAN/WAN of the customer s network. The Field Controllers have no routing facilities, which means no incoming IP message can be routed to any internal port (including the PSTN dialup port). The dialup port can be configured to not accept any incoming calls thus preventing hacking. Once a PSTN call is established only Pacom authenticated messages will be accepted.

17 17 TransIT Self-Contained Base Station The Pacom TransIT is a compact, multi-disciplined communication controller designed to manage and route security data between Pacom Field Controllers and the Pacom GMS Server. Connected between the GMS Server and the existing LAN/WAN routing devices, the TransIT supports IP, SDLC Poll and X.25 local and wide area network communication protocols and host system transaction routing for up to 200 Pacom Field Controllers. Figure Pacom TransIT Note: For applications encompassing larger geographical multi-site solutions with the need for integrated redundancy and alternate disaster recovery solutions, the Pacom rack-mounted modular Base Station hierarchy adds a scalable approach to security transaction management.

18 18 Remote Site Hardware The Pacom product line offers several choices of Field Controllers for a variety of integrated alarm, access control and video applications. Each controller has been designed to provide scalable and modular solutions for standalone, dialup and multi-site networked integrated security applications. The new addition to the Field Controller range is the Pacom Witness TM. The Pacom Witness TM incorporates all the features of a standard site controller. It comes standard with integrated alarm I/O, access control and digital video Figure Pacom Witness TM Shown with CCTV Camera and Compact LCD Keypad storage and transmission. The Pacom Witness TM can be connected to up to eight CCTV cameras and can be operated as a Field Controller or as a video expansion module for existing Field Controllers. Common Peripheral Components All Field Controllers within the Pacom product line utilize common peripheral components such as input/output expansion modules, LCD keypads and card reader interface modules, keeping spare parts inventory and service costs to a minimum. 19 19 Inherent System Redundancy Design A Pacom system provides redundancy alternatives at every level within the system hierarchy. Pacom Field Controllers are designed with the intelligence to direct data through alternate network paths and destinations, depending upon the status of the network. All Field Controllers within the Pacom wide area network have the ability to transmit security transactions to alternate destinations in the event of a primary site failure. Controllers are programmed with a contact time window. If the Site Controller has no alarms to report it will randomly choose a time within the window to report to the Monitoring system. This prevents the backup site being flooded with low priority status messages immediately after the primary site failure. Standard Features within Pacom Field Controllers The main function of a Pacom Field Controller is to provide users with a complete integrated security solution for the protection of people, property and security at remote sites. The following list demonstrates just a sample of the standard features available with all Pacom Field Controllers: Multiple-Area Configuration: provides the ability to partition up to eight independent alarm areas. Each area can have its own operating parameters. Downloadable Site Operating Parameters: All programmable operating parameters that make each remote site unique are also downloadable from a PC via the GMS software. Customised User ID Control and Configuration: dynamic status control of all frequent system users; employees, guards, service technicians etc. Integrated alarm and access control functionality: provides the flexibility to use access cards to change mode status of defined areas. Device Test Scheduling: Each alarm device connected to a Pacom Systems Site Controller can be programmed to a device testing schedule to ensure employees are performing routine preventive maintenance testing. Each device can be programmed as a test while inactive point. This is normally used for devices such as internal motion detectors, which are isolated (accessed) during the day, but de-isolated (secured) at night. The range of Pacom Field Controllers are designed to cater to the unique requirements of all sites. 20 20 Peripheral Expansion Modules Pacom provides a range of external and onboard mounted expansion modules which provide greater scaleability within the site controller range (See Figure 1-15). These add-on PCB modules can be used on any Pacom Site Controller and are used to expand a variety of features such as: Alarm inputs and outputs Device Loops for connecting additional keypads, access control and other smart devices. Specialised Network Interfaces. Dial-up Modems. 16x4 Remote I/O Expansion Module The Pacom Systems remote I/O expansion modules are used to modularly expand the alarm input and output points of any Pacom Security Controller. The I/O expansion modules communicate via a multi-drop port to the Field Controllers and provide an additional 16 inputs and 4 outputs. The input and output capacity of the module can be expanded locally by accommodating a combination of up to 2, 16-input or 8-output mezzanine cards. Card Reader Interfaces Typically installed at access control points such as doors and turnstiles, Pacom Card Reader Interfaces provide a link between Pacoms Access Control System and a variety of third party card and proximity reader devices. Single and two door versions of the reader interfaces are available and both are provided with an onboard buzzer and additional inputs and outputs for the connection of the door contacts, door release relays and LEDs to indicate valid and invalid card transactions. The Card reader interfaces can olso be used as I/O expansion modules where the inputs and outputs are used to connect general alarm system sensors and output devices. A list of recently used card numbers is stored locally and in then event of a communications failure with the site controller, access can still be granted to personnel on the list.

21 21 LCD Keypads The Pacom LCD Keypads provide a user-friendly interface for the control of local alarm areas or integrated access control applications. Eight tri-colour LEDs provide an at-a-glance overview of each partitioned alarm area configured within any Pacom Site controller. The backlit display, softtouch keypad and easy-to-follow menu operation provide users with the hassle-free ease of use they expect. Compatible with all Pacom Field Controllers, LCD Keypads are available in Wide Screen or Compact Versions. Figure Wide Screen and Compact LCD Keypads
