1 Revised Spring 2014 Bachelor of Arts in Languages (BA Only) STUDENT NAME: ID# ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: Circle One: Single Language Option Dual Language Option CATALOG YEAR OF ADMISSION TO DEGREE: ADVISOR: DATE:_ MAJOR: MINOR: Students must fulfill each category listed below to complete all GER, CAS, and Languages BA requirements, which are merged in this advising sheet. Students must also complete the General University Requirements for all Baccalaureate Degrees. Tier 1 GER courses must be completed within the first two years after admission to degree program. Students admitted to a degree program in the academic year or later must fulfill a 3-credit Integrative Capstone Course for graduation. (See Chapter 10 in the UAA Catalog.) The symbol * denotes Upper-Division courses. Kindly note that the courses indicated do not reflect an exhaustive list, but rather a recommended one due to its highly efficient use of time in fulfilling University requirements. Please keep in mind that, in order to graduate with a B.A. in Languages, you will need to adhere to the following requirements: A total of 120 credits, at the 100 level and above, are required for the degree. A minimum of an additional 24 resident credits are required for a 2 nd Baccalaureate Degree. It is recommended that students who are pursuing more than one baccalaureate graduate with their degrees concurrently. A minimum of 42 credits must be upper division. A minimum of 30 credits must be completed in residence, 24 of which must be upper division. Transfer students must earn in residence at least 12 credits in each major. At least 6 upper division credits in the respective emphasis language (courses numbered higher than A302) must be taken physically in residence at UAA. Students must earn a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 (C) at UAA. No grade below a C will count toward the major in Languages (200-level courses and above). Admission to a degree program expires after 7 years of formal acceptance. No more than 30 military credits can be applied to a baccalaureate degree. SPECIAL NOTE: In compliance with UAA Policy, the Bachelor of Arts Assessment Plan adopted by the Department of Languages in AY requires that Majors in Languages fulfill the following during their final semester prior to graduation: 1) complete an Exit Exam entirely in the emphasis language which consists of both oral and written components and tests for effective communication according to the ACTFL Guidelines. In adherence to ACTFL linguistic proficiency examination standards, students will not have access to any of the exam questions prior to the administration of the test, and 2) present one archived student artifact representative of upper-division work completed in the penultimate or ultimate semester of completion of Languages Major Requirements (minimum of 9 credits completed in upper-division coursework taught in the emphasis language) and which demonstrates in the target language close reading and critical analysis of an authentic text as well as articulation of cross-cultural similarities and differences within an appropriate context. This student artifact may be presented in the form of a written exam, written paper, or audio/visual recording. These assessment procedures are for programmatic evaluation only.
