1 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item Purpose: This guide includes important terminology and the steps needed to successfully create a drag and drop test item in Schoolnet. Term/Concept Description Page(s) Drag and Drop Test Item Overview The display and parts of a Drag and Drop Test Item. 2 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item Users can create a variety of test item types in Schoolnet. This guide covers Drag and Drop. 3 Using the Text Formatting Box The Text Formatting Box appears in numerous places where users may enter content for students. This section gives a brief explanation of the formatting options. 11 Add a Passage Users may add a new passage or search for an existing one. 12 Item Attributes Various attributes may be allocated to items. This section helps the user understand the field definitions. 14 Passage Attributes Manipulatives Various attributes may be allocated to passages. This section helps the user understand the field definitions. Brief description and display of the manipulatives available for online testing: calculators, rulers, protractor, and compass To access Teacher Portal from the DPS homepage, click on Employees and then click on Teacher Portal. (Hint: For quick access to the Teacher Portal, bookmark this link:
2 Drag and Drop Test Item Overview The Read and Review section is the location for an optional passage. See the Add a Passage Section of this guide for more details. The Respond section is the location for the item stem. This is what students will specifically answer using the answer choices. Draggable answer choices are below the item stem that students will drag and drop into the target containers. Settings may allow students to drag and drop answer choices multiple times into multiple target containers. Target containers hold students answer choices they drag and drop. 2
3 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item From the Teacher Portal, click Assessments. Click Create an Item. Click Drag and Drop. 3
4 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item (continued) Select Subject (4a.) and Grade Level range (4b.) from the Item Properties drop-down menus, then click Standard Lookup (4c.) Users may utilize the [edit] link if the standard ID is known. 4a. 4b. 4c. 5. Click Expand All to see all standards (5a.), then select the applicable and most specific standard(s) by clicking the check box next to each standard (5b.) and click Done (5c.). 5a. 5b. 5c. If the standard(s) needed doesn t appear in the list, utilize the Standard Document, Subject, and Grade Level dropdown menus. Optional: Click Add to add Teacher Instructions for the item. See the Using the Text Formatting Box section of this guide for additional help. 4
5 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item (continued) Click Show More and complete as many fields as possible. Completing fields like Keywords, Name (of item), and Webb are important to identify items for test creation. For more information on these fields, see the Item Attributes section of this guide. 8. Click Click Here to Add Content to insert the item s question stem. This is the specific instruction to answer with the answer choices provided A formatting box will open. Enter content (9a.) and then click Save (9b.). 9a. See the Using the Text Formatting Box section of this guide for additional help. 9b. 5

Content must be answered for all target containers. 1 A formatting box will open. Enter content (11a.) and then click Save (11b.). 11a. 7 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item (continued) 1 Designate the number of times a draggable answer choice may be used. Draggable answer choices may be dragged into multiple target containers Match each target container with the answer choices. Select the Target Container (15a.), set the container capacity (15b.), assign a point value to the correct answer choice dragged to the container (15c.), click the checkbox to indicate the draggable answer is correct (15d.) 15a. 15b. 15c. 15d. Repeat Step 15 for all target containers (15a.) that will contain draggable answer choices. 1 Optional: Add a Teacher Explanation or Student Explanation for each draggable answer choice and the point value assigned. 16a. 16b. 8 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item (continued) 1 Optional: Choose to enable Tools and Manipulatives by clicking the checkbox next to Enabled. Please see the Manipulatives section for further details Optional: Choose to upload a Formula Reference Sheet for students to review while taking an online test. 18a. Click Select 18b. Click Save and Preview (20a.) then click either With Manipulatives (Image Scaling Off) or Without Manipulatives (Image Scaling On) (20b.) 20b. 2 Browser will open a new, separate window with the item for review. Review all components for item appearance. This is how it will display when students take an online test. 2 Click Save. 2 Alerts in Steps to Complete must be resolved in order to complete the item. 10 Create a Drag and Drop Test Item (continued) 2 The Item Status screen will appear. Select the save option for Item Central in order find the item being created (23a.) and optional Co-Authoring settings (23b.), then click Save (23c.) 23a. 23b. 23c. 10
11 Using the Text Formatting Box HTML style formatting is available Font Family selects the font Font Size selects the type point Bold, italics, underline Select the font color and highlight color Undo, redo Check spelling Cleanup messy HTML code Insert link, remove link Insert math equation using TeX-Math equation editor Alignment: left, center, right, justified 18. Insert image Indentation 19. Insert special character/symbol 8. Number list or bullet lists 20. Table functions: insert, delete, merge, split 9. Opens an HTML editor 2 Add media 10. Preview the formatted text 2 Thesaurus function 1 Check grammar 2 Cancel button 1 Cut, copy, paste (general), paste (word) 2 Save button 11
12 Add a Passage From the Item Central: Create New Item page, click Add under Passage, then click New Passage. Users may search for an already existing passage by clicking Search for Passage. 1a. 1b. Complete the Passage Information fields. Optional: Click Show Optional Properties and complete as many fields as possible. For more information on these fields, see the Passage Attributes section of this guide. Enter the content for the passage using the Text Formatting Box. See the Using the Text Formatting Box section of this guide for additional help. 12
13 Add a Passage (continued) 5. Select the Online Layout for the passage by choosing portrait (5a.) or landscape (5b.) 5a. 5b. Optional: A Word Count indicator informs the user the number of words in the passage content entered. Users may override this by using the Manually Enter Number feature. Click Save. 13
14 Item Attributes All fields are optional, but some fields are highly recommended to complete. These fields are designated with * Name the item for easy location.* 1 Select the Webb level.* Add an additional item identifier. 1 Enter keywords for the item.* Select an authored difficulty. 1 The author defaults to the user. Select a cognitive demand level. 15. Select the Bloom s Taxonomy level. 5. Select a district restriction category. 1 Select a course if the item is course specific. Select a vetted level.* 1 Enter an item category. Publisher defaults to Schoolnet. 18. Enter a year. 8. Select if item is an anchor item. 9. Assign a batch. 10. Enter a course ID. 1 Select if the item relates to a hard to measure content area. 14
15 Passage Attributes All fields are optional, but some fields are highly recommended to complete. These fields are designated with * An additional identifier may be entered for the passage. A course ID may be entered for the passage Enter an asset type. Enter a Flesch-Kincaid. Enter a Lexile from the dropdown. Question language is defaulted to English. Enter the Reading Maturity Metric (RMM) Enter a value for the Lexile. Enter a topic. Enter a batch identifier. 5. A year may be entered for the passage. Click Add Teacher Instructions.* See the Using the Text Formatting Box section of this guide for additional help Author defaults to the user. Enter a genre. Publisher defaults to Schoolnet. Select a Type from the dropdown. 15
