35 ETERNUS CS8000 at PFA Easy Tape migration Bo Rønne, System Consultant, PFA Migration of historical data, from older data media to new data media, was done in a elegant and secure way, do to the intelligent possibilities in CS8000, this was done with support from highly qualified and experienced experts from Fujitsu Søren Thomns, Senior Consultant, Fujitsu By PFA we in the fact did a tape change 2 times, First time it was from Magstar to LTO 2, second time from LTO 2 to LTO 4. Both times we did use the DUAL SAVE function in the CS8800 system. We implemented the new tape device in the robotic and created then a new physically tape pool. There after we assigned the old logically tape pool to the old physically and the new physically tape pool. After this assignment the CS8000 will automatically write the logical volume on the old physically volume AND on the new physically volume. To speed up the process we started a reorg run on all logical volumes (reorg is read a physical volume, and writ it on a new), and when CS is writing it detect that there is a dual save. All is done in the CS8000, therefor no load on any servers and channels. 35
