1 Your new resource for everything at the LFC From clinic updates, to changes in motion- the Pulse is the new way to keep connected and informed on Clinic happenings. Changes are happening quickly, and we want everyone to partake in the excitement. This newsletter will be coming out monthly. Feb Birthdays: Dr. Shoja Don t forget to nominate a fellow Volunteer for the month of March. Forms are available in the break room. Just fill one out and place it in the box. The ballots will be counted at the end of every month.

2 The We re Moving! The LFC might be moving as early as the end of the 2012! To a sprawling new home, just next door. So what s in store? 6 patient rooms Lunch room Pharmacy Dedicated nurse area Volunteer workspaces PA office Spacious countertops Patient Services counter Brand new floors Next door to other Loudoun services Multipurpose room Patient Education Room 40% bigger Why EMR? EMR is a technologically advanced information management tool utilized by many medical facilities. It s a much more organized and safe way to handle our patient information. A lot of clinics and hospitals use similar systems, so this will be an excellent opportunity to learn a new program and save time hunting for charts! Wh Hey! o to yc ok m hart? R.I.P.! Coming Soon: Operation EMR Q: What does EMR stand for? Look Ma, no paper cuts! A: EMR stands for Electronic Medical Record. Q: How long will the transition to EMR take? I m excited about switching to EMR. I plan to go into the field of medicine, and that s what the rest of the field is using. It will be a good opportunity to learn. Zaid, Administrative Volunteer A: We will have plenty of time to adjust to the new record keeping method. This system will be implemented over the next 2 years. Stay tuned for more EMR updates! 2

3 A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows. St. Francis of Assisi The LFC is recruiting Volunteers, making ourselves heard in the community and just getting Out and About in Loudoun! We would love to have you join us as we talk to the public about what we do and who we are. Here s what s happening: Out and About: Thank you to everyone that participated in in February! It s a great start to our healthier initiative here at the Clinic. Upcoming Events: Earth Day, Sun. April 22 nd : Join us as we celebrate Earth Day with Loudoun County. We need Volunteers to help us man our booth! We expect the crowd to be over 5,000! Loudoun Health Day, Sat. April 14 th : The LFC will be set up with a booth for our clinic! A question? A solution? Write it down and share it with us. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas! 3

4 Community Connections Each month we will be highlighting one of our fabulous community connections. These community supporters donate resources to support the Staff and Volunteers at the Clinic. February s Community Connection Highlight: The Wine Kitchen In 2011, The Wine Kitchen, an upscale bistro in Downtown Leesburg, supported our efforts by donating proceeds from its daily lunch special to the Loudoun Free Clinic. If you re in the area, stop by and enjoy fine local wines, and organic ingredients at this sensational downtown gem! Make sure you tell them you re from the Clinic. One of our favorites? The Croque Monsieur! Thank you to the staff and management of the Wine Kitchen for your support! Stay tuned for upcoming Community Connection spotlights: Cookology, Costcos, Eggspectations, South Street Under, Del Rio, Galetta s, La Chocita Grill, Lightfoot Restaurant, Palio Italian Restaurant, Heritage High School, St. Francis de Sales. Did you know? Cookology is not only donating weekly lunches for our daytime crew, but is also planning to donate up to 20 healthy meals for our patients in March! Say Cheese For the next few months you might notice some exciting projects happening around the clinic. One of these projects is a photo montage of our Staff and Volunteers. So when you see someone with a camera, give us a big smile! We are creating a wall of all of our Clinic stars for everyone to see! Casting Call We are working on developing Volunteer training videos to help our new crew members learn the ropes quicker than ever. Videos will also help us all learn the new chart system, and eventually help us in our transition to EMR. We need a few amateur actors and actresses to play a variety of roles as we begin filming. Please let us know if you are interested in participating and we will be sure to include you! Welcome Alex! Our new Patient Services Coordinator! 4

5 When documenting height for patients, please use inches. This helps us total the BMI much more easily. Dr. Gable will be holding Ortho clinics one Tuesday a month, every month! RE: Cytology forms for PAP smears. We have new forms. Please use the same account number as used on blood forms. See Brenda for information. Welcome Betsy, our new PA student! A letter from our ED Throughout life, we are presented with opportunities to witness countless acts of care. I am blessed to be the leader of an incredible team. Each and every day, I watch the staff and volunteers at the Loudoun Free Clinic give tirelessly to our patients and families in need. I pray for their insight, and that they will never tire of this compassionate service. Please know it is both hard work, and HEART work. If ever you doubt the existence of earth angels visit us. I will personally introduce you to our kaleidoscope of talent. After decades of professional practice in acute care and international consulting, I am facing one of the most fascinating phases of my career. It is my joy to wrap my arms around this team and to invest in this community. How fortunate that I have discovered this beautiful area, filled with warm people who have the heart for philanthropy. A beloved Minister recently shared, Our work on earth should be a sacred privilege. Together we have the potential to impact this community in a most unique fashion. Together, we can build a new clinic environment outreach beyond our walls to other communities offer preventative & proactive care and impact countless lives. This is sacred work. Your presence is a gift to all of us that have worked to make this evening a CELEBRATION to remember. Thank you for supporting this treasured staff and our ministry of care.
