Calorie Display The PM800 will calculate your approximate calorie consumption during a workout. Simply program the following information to obtain this data which you can access during or after your training session. Note: The stopwatch must be activated if you wish to use Calorie modes. If you wish to consult the data after a workout, stop the PM800 without resetting it! Read the data first and then reset it. Otherwise, the data will be lost. To set the calorie consumption: 1. 5 consult the data after a workout, stop the PM800 without resetting it! Read the data first and then reset it. Otherwise, the data will be lost. Countdown Timer If you wish to workout for a set period of time, the Countdown Timer is very useful. You can adjust it from 1 minute to 3 hours. Use it similarly to the Stopwatch function but this time it will count down to 0 and emit a beeping sound at the end. Note: The Audible Alarm must be on to use this feature. To set the Countdown Timer: 1. Press MODE until the countdown timer icon [CDT] appears. Fitting the Transmitter Belt Wear the transmitter stretched around your thorax and under the pectoral muscles. The Oregon Scientific logo must be visible in front and not upside down. The elastic band should be adjusted snugly enough so that the belt doesn t shift while your breathing. Before using, we recommend moisten the inside surface of the conductive rubber pads with saliva or ECG conductive gel (available at your local pharmacy). Finally, it may take a few minutes for the watch to display an accurate count. This is normal and may take longer on cool, dry days. CONDUCTIVE RUBBER PADS GB 2. Press ADJUST and hold for about 2 seconds, the display will show hold command. SET THE TRANSMITTER IN THE MIDDLE UNDER THE PECTORAL MUSCLES 3. Press ADJUST to set the countdown timer. Hold the key for fast increments. Confirm and continue by pressing MODE. 4. To start or stop the countdown timer, press ST / SP. 5. To reset the countdown timer, press ST / SP and hold for about 2 seconds. The unit will reset to the preset countdown time. 5
6 Actual Heart Rate Monitoring To consult your actual heart rate reading, you have the choice between a couple of modes. For example, Actual Heart Rate with Clock, or Actual Heart Rate with Stopwatch. A delay of 5-8 seconds is needed for the watch to display your actual heart rate. The heart icon will flash to confirm that data is being received from the transmitter. If the heart icon doesn t flash, there s no data transfer. (If the monitor flashes or the alarm sounds, this doesn t mean that there s no data transfer, it means that you ve reached your upper/ lower limits.) Note: Memory functions are only activated when starting the stopwatch. Consult the following pages for more information. Heart Rate Memory Storage and Recall The PM800 will memorize the time you spent above, inside and below your set heart rate limits during a workout. 1. Press MODE until STP appears. The stopwatch must be stopped. 2. Press MODE and hold for about 2 to 3 seconds. The display will scan between Upper Limit, Lower Limit, and Inside Limit. 3. Resetting the stopwatch will also clear the average heart rate. 6 Note: The stopwatch must be activated to use this function. If you wish to consult the data after workout, stop the PM800 without resetting it! Read your data first and then reset it, otherwise the data will be lost. Average Heart Rate Function After a workout, you can consult the reached average heart rate. It is determined by using the reached upper and lower heart rate readings during a training session. It will be showed after the Heart Rate Memory. Note: The stopwatch must be activated to use this function. If you wish to consult the data after workout, stop the PM800 without resetting it! Read your data first and then reset it, otherwise the data will be lost. Training Zones WARNING: Determining your individual training zone is a critical step in the process towards efficient and safe training. Please consult your doctor or health professional to help you determine your maximum heart rate, upper and lower limits, exercise frequency and duration appropriate for your age, condition and specific goals.
7 The following offers only very basic information to help you set your watch. To learn more about Training Zones are training techniques, please refer to the wide variety of books available on the subject. In order to find your individual training zones, you must first determine your individual maximum heart rate. This is the highest number of times your heart contracts in one minute. A common way to estimate this is to subtract your age from a given number like this: Women: 226 minus your age Men: 220 minus your age Example for a 36 year old woman: 226 minus 36 = A maximum heart rate of 190 Although very simple, this method can also be imprecise. We again advise you to consult health professionals. To best determine your max. HR. Training zones represent different levels of intensity in reference to your individual max. HR. There are several training zones that bear specific results in your fitness program. The most popular zones range between 50% to 80% of your maximum great rate. This is where you achieve cardiovascular benefits, burn fat, and become fitter. When programming your watch, the lowest % of the zone you choose becomes your lower heart rate limit and the highest % becomes the upper heart rate limit. 50% 60% 70% 80% 90% 100% Moderate Activity Weight Management Aerobic Zone Anaerobic Threshold Zone Red Line Zone ( maximum capacity ) Battery Change If the heart rate readings become erratic or stop, your transmitter battery may need replacing. You can do this by yourself very easily without any special tools. 1. Open the transmitter battery lid with a coin by turning counterclockwise. 2. Insert one CR2032, 3V lithium battery with writing facing you. Note: Take care not to touch the two contacts, otherwise the battery can discharge. 3. Replace lid. If you are unsure about the procedure consult your dealer. Note: Disposed of improperly, batteries can be harmful. Protect the environment by taking exhausted batteries to authorized disposal stations. GB 7
