The two easternmost bays of the aisles are occupied, on the north, by the vestries with the organ above and, on the south, by the morning chapel with the gallery above. One might expect a screen above that between vestries and choir but not above that between chapel and choir: that would screen only the gallery from the body of the church. The labelling of the gallery plan in No. 2 in fact makes it clear that an iron grille is to be in front of the organ only. The grille drawn in here shows alternative designs and this side is preferred to that crossed out. So the date must be about the middle of Design for Tile Pavement for Aisles, Vestries & Morning Chapel, for Quire & for Altar Space Scale: 3/4in to 1ft Insc: As above, Messrs The Campbell Tile Co / 206 Gt Portland St London, Plan No. 892 & labelled d: 15. ix. 87 Pen & coloured washes (435 x 665) A fine contractor's drawing, but the tiles of a much more conventional design than No Sketch for Encaustic Tiles Scale: FS Insc: As above Pencil & orange & brown washes (510 x 685) An interesting, bold design, quite unlike No Plan of the Chancel showing Fittings/in Apse Insc: As above, 9855 / 15, (red pen) All dimensions for this floor must be taken from / the actual work in the Building s & d: A.Waterhouse / 11 : Ap 1888 Pencil & pen & black, brown & blue washes (555 x 690) 13 Developed Elevation of Wainscot Pannelling [sic] round Apse, Elev[atio]n & Sec[tio]n of Desk to Bishop's Seat Insc: As above, (pen) / 17 & labelled s & d: A.Waterhouse / 11 : Ap 1888 Pencil & buff & brown washes (385 x 560) The reredos now takes the form of a cross beneath a pediment and flanked by panels showing ears of wheat and a chalice. The seat on the north side is in fact the bishop's seat. There seems to be doubt as to which side of the altar the credence shelf should be set. For the verso, see No Elevation of Credence Table against panelling, Front & Side of Bracket to Credence Table & Elevation & Section of desk to Bishop's Seat & (pencil) sketch of desk front Scale: (bracket) FS; (desks) ½in to 1ft Insc: As above, / 18B & labelled & (pencil, of desk) This is not too high / so as to hide the Bp?, (pencil, of sketch) I prefer the centre / open & (pencil) other observations Sepia & red pen & brown wash on tracing paper (300 x 475) The elevation of the credence shelf (for that is what it is, not a table) against the panelling is a copy of the lower part of the elevation in No. 14. The front and side of the bracket are tracings of No. 15 verso. The elevation and section of the desk are tracings of those on No. 13 and show the desk with three balusters supporting the book rest. It now remains in its / present position. / The Canon seems to have a wish / for this large pew I think for Choral / services or something of the kind / and to use chairs would it not be better than (accompanying sketch section) with the rise.
