2 WHAT IS JPI CLIMATE? JPI = Joint Programming Initiative Est as collaboration between 14 members - to coordinate climate research and fund new transnational research initiatives. The overall aim of the Joint Programming process is to pool national research efforts in order to make better use of Europe's public R&D resources and to tackle common European challenges more effectively in key areas. It is a structured process on a voluntary basis and in a partnership approach to address major societal challenges.

4 JPI CLIMATE: o o o o o o aims to respond to the knowledge needs of policy and the European society at large to address climate change provides a platform to align national research priorities according to a jointly agreed Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) facilitates the coordination, collaboration and exploitation of synergies in climate change research connects different disciplinary approaches in natural and social sciences connects top researchers and research groups from different European countries connects scientific insights with the demands of policy makers, decision makers and other stakeholders
