1 Technological Roadmap Providing solutions to meet the challenges arising from the growing needs for both public passenger and freight transport in urban environments. Founded by: Supported by :
2 Since its creation in 2005, Lyon Urban Truck & Bus (LUTB) remains the only competitiveness cluster in Europe with the ambition to respond to the challenges of meeting the growing needs for collective mobility and freight transport in urban environments. Among the major challenges to be addressed, programmes need to be devised to ensure the use of diverse energy sources, respect the European criteria for air quality, optimise delivery systems by maximising vehicle occupancy, in everyday driving as well as infrastructure use (public roads, delivery areas, supply-chain platforms ), so as to minimise the impact on public space and increase the appeal of public passenger transport vehicles. Collaborative projects validated by Lyon Urban Truck & Bus - carried out by industrial firms, researchers, end users and local authorities - will provide societal, economic, industrial and environmental solutions driving forward the transport systems of our towns and cities. The technological roadmap devised by LUTB cluster members presents a systemic view of the goals to be attained by 2030 so as to deliver optimised urban mobility schemes that will be beneficial to all. In order to achieve these objectives and meet the five major challenges outlined in this paper, certain technological, organisational and economic impediments must first be removed. This is the very purpose of the work done by different players of the cluster and illustrated in the following pages via a number of R&D projects conducted and tested in the Rhône-Alpes region. The Chairman, Eric Poyeton SHARE Reduce the cost of vehicle ownership - 50 % in 5 years BREATHE Improve air quality in urban environments - 30 % in 10 years PROTECT Reduce the number of accidents 50 % in 10 years ACCESS Promote accessibility for urban population Progression from 20 % to 50 % in 15 years CHANGE Develop electro-mobility solutions 50 % in 15 years TRAVEL Reduce congestion in both passenger and freight transport systems 50 % in 20 years HEAR Reduce noise disturbance in urban areas - 3 db(a) in 5 years - 10 db(a) in 20 years 5 years 10 years 15 years 20 years

4 ZOOM ON 16 PROJECTS R&D VALIDATED BY THE LYON URBAN TRUCK & BUS COMPETITIVENESS CLUSTER Financial Partners ANR, ADEME, European Commission, Conseil Général du Rhône, Conseil Général de L'Ain, Conseil Général de L'Ardèche, DGCIS, ERDF, Grand Lyon, PREDIT, Region Rhône-Alpes, City of Lyon. MODULO Description. This bus prototype questions the architecture of ultra-long buses with a view to satisfying the growing demands for flexibility from operators as well as the demand for clean modes of transport. Objective. Reduce consumption as well as gas emissions and noise pollution: By combining the reduction gained from hybrid technology (25 % potential) with the benefits of modularity (30 % potential by resizing the vehicle for off-peak hours), the objective is to move towards a level of reduction to achieve as much as 50 % in consumption and emissions. Leader : Irisbus Iveco France. Partners : Michelin, Véolia, RATP, Kéolis, IFSTTAR (LTE), ERCTEEL, BATSCAP, CEA. Financial supports : ADEME. GEODE Description. The GEODE project plans to develop a number of hybrid commercial vehicle demonstrators. Objective. Reduce local pollutant emissions by as much as 30 % - Attain low noise emission levels: all-electric mode, power off when idling - Save fuel and lower CO 2 emissions: as much as 35 % depending on applications and usage Leader : Renault Trucks. Partners : Martek Power, SAFT, IFSTTAR (LTE), Sita-Suez Environnement, Grand Lyon, Groupe Colas, Coca-Cola France. Financial supports: DGCIS, ERDF, Région Rhône-Alpes, Grand Lyon. Adaptation to the infrastructure Massification Modular load features Vehicle modularity Onboard energy management and optimisation Electrified vehicles Green Truck and B Management tool for freight vehicles and delivery rounds Chameleon vehicle Onboard and mobile telematics connections Low-CO 2 fuels Lightweight systems and recyclability FIDEUS Description. This project seeks to develop a new urban supply-chain system involving vehicles equipped with optimal functions for the haulier, the driver, the customer, the infrastructure operator and the city s "supervisory" authority. Objective. Test innovative urban delivery solutions using vehicles integrating new communication technologies to stay in touch with infrastructures: - Lower noise emissions by as much as 6 db (A) for night-time deliveries - Greater fuel savings and less air pollution - Enhanced security - Increased operational efficiency CARAVELLE CAtalyseurs trois voies Améliorés pour VEhicules Lourds et LEgers fonctionnant au gaz naturel (Enhanced three-way catalysts for light and heavy natural gas vehicles) Very little research has been done by catalyst manufacturers and automobile constructors to study clean-air catalysis applied in natural gas vehicles (NGV). In order to counterbalance this technological deficiency, current commercial catalysers used for NGV applications contain precious metals that treat unburned methane (CH4) emissions as they exit the engine (very stable molecule, hard to oxidise). Consequently, the CARAVELLE project seeks to develop an optimised after-treatment system for NGV vehicles. Optimisation entails improving the performance of these catalysers, at the same time reducing their precious metals content and limiting their aging over time. The goal is not only to ensure continuity of the natural gas activity which, due to its low emissions levels, has always offered considerable environmental benefits, but also to present natural gas as an interesting alternative in energy diversification. Make travel easier for public transport users by giving them real-time access to different types of information: - Option to use different modes of mass transport (bus, underground, tramway, funicular railway) with real-time updates on network disturbances as well as station stopping timetables. - Condition of the public fleet of self-service bicycles (Vélo v), with real-time information on the location of the stations nearest the geographic position of the user of the service (GPS), as well as the number of bicycles and empty racks available for returning a bicycle in each station. Leader : Artal. Partners : Grand Toulouse, Keolis, Canal TP, Algoé, Grand Lyon, IFSTTAR, Sytral, Thales Alenia Space Financial supports : DGCIS / ULISS. CITYLOG Description. This project develops the concept of the «freight bus»: a truck approaches the city centre with several containers of freight for different delivery areas. Each container is off-loaded in «transshipment» zones and loaded onto light commercial vehicles for delivery to the last kilometre. Telematics solutions make work easier for drivers: mission supervision, optimised navigation, customer informed of an imminent delivery. CityLog also defines the «Bento Box» concept, a modular left-luggage system that partitions parcels delivery so as to avoid unsuccessful deliveries when the customer is absent. Objective. Reduce the number of delivery vehicles entering the city centre; reduce the number of unsuccessful deliveries; navigation assistance (shortening journey times); synchronise the phases and people involved in the supply-chain process; promote a system of massified transport together with final distribution by vehicles of suitable dimensions.
