3 The benefits of desktop & mobile Video Conferencing Desktop and mobile Video Conferencing gives you the ultimate benefit of being able to Video Conference anytime, with anyone from wherever you are. If you have a standard pc, laptop or mobile device with an Internet connection, then you can make a Video Conference call. Great for home and remote workers, great for business with multiple offices. If you re already using a room-based system then it s the next logical progression, increasing the reach and availability of Video Conferencing throughout your business. Why choose business quality video over and above the free tools out there There are lots of free Video Conferencing services out there now, great for keeping in touch with family and friends but they are not business quality services. With many free services the quality is not great, you can t make a second video connection, you can t show your desktop and you can t connect to a standards based hardware room system and security is an issue too. They are free and they re mostly good but they are not business tools. 3

4 Desktop Video Conferencing If you think desktop Video Conferencing is too expensive... think again. All you need in order to conduct a desktop Video Conference is: A desktop computer or laptop Internet connection Microphone (Head set) Webcam Video Conferencing software license or hosted service You don't need expensive equipment to Video Conference from your office or home. There are a number of inexpensive, business quality options available today. Mobile Video Conferencing Likewise, with mobile Video Conferencing, many of us already have apple or android mobile devices capable of making video calls. Apps from all the major vendors are free to download; enabling you to register and link with your existing Video networks. 4

5 Lync 2013 Lync 2013 includes new video features that enhance the user collaboration experience. These features include High Definition Video Conferences that provide support for multiple video streams. Lync 2013 also includes new management capabilities that enable administrators to control the network bandwidth consumption of these new video features. Pretty much every major video vendor has some level of interoperability with Lync, making it a very versatile platform. Lync doesn t yet have a mobile Video app but it does have instant messaging. 5

It needs to be used with a multipoint loaded system or bridge for multi-way calls. We think this will be phased out in the future by Polycom s RealPresence Desktop for Windows. 8

12 Polycom RealPresence Mobile Polycom RealPresence Mobile is a software app that extends face-to-face collaboration and content sharing beyond the conference room and the office to tablets and Smartphones. You can download the app for free and start using it immediately to make point-to-point video calls. If you register it to your Polycom RealPresence Platform, this integrates the app with your entire video network, enabling you to conduct group and multi-point calls with any network or device. Get them to download the app and start using it straight away. Polycom claim that it will work to a basic level without needing Polycom CMA or Polycom RealPresence Resource Manager, but in our experience this is not the case. 12

The small screen and low camera angle make for poor Video, but amazing desk phones with Video Conferencing as a secondary function. 13
