Jubilee Primary School is now in the second year of operation and we have tripled our pupil numbers. We have experienced and dynamic staff led by our enthusiastic and committed Senior Leadership Team. I have worked for many years as a school leader and before coming to JPS I was Head of a six form entry primary school. I am also a qualified Ofsted Inspector for schools. Our aim for your school is to ensure all pupils reach and exceed national expectations. Our nature is to nurture and we will ensure your children are treated as individuals whose characters and needs will be recognised, supported and celebrated. We work in full partnership with parents in an environment where dialogue is open and honest and where value and respect are at the centre of all relationships. We have a no gossip policy across the whole school community and invite all our parents and carers to support us in achieving this. In addition to our excellent team of staff, we have an exceptional support network in the form of Trust Board Members, Governors as well as daily volunteers. All of these groups have a range of experience and knowledge that have enhanced the school life of our pupils.

3 Jubilee Primary School opened its doors in September It is a two form entry mainstream primary school which has been set up under government guidance and legislation. Our school has a faith ethos and is open equally to children of all backgrounds, regardless of faith. We had an intake of 30 pupils for 2014 and from September 2015 we will have a yearly intake of 60 Reception aged pupils. We aim to develop the character of every child and equip them for lifelong learning through a broad and balanced education with the 4 key values: purpose, community, skilled for life and nurture. These aspects coupled with a strong work ethic and an enriching, inspiring learning environment make us A school should not be a preparation for life. A school should be life. 5 How is Jubilee Primary School different? 7 1. MEETING THE NEEDS OF ALL CHILDREN All children will be grouped according to age. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, in addition to having qualified teacher status, professionals will also have a specialist degree in Early Years. Where it meets the need of all pupils in the school from year 1 teachers will keep their class group for at least two years. This is to ensure consistency in teaching and an accurate and detailed knowledge of pupils ability and potential. Teachers develop their own specialist area, this will not only provide expert subject knowledge but also teachers who are passionate and enthusiastic about the subject they teach. We have additional members of staff specifically trained for small group interventions for English and maths. These are aimed at accelerating learning for those underperforming or not showing the progress we expect but also for those excelling who need additional challenge.

SPECIALISTS IN CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS We are extremely passionate about the contribution that the Arts can make to an individual s self esteem and confidence. When a pupil is happy and has a sense of worth and purpose, their effort and enthusiasm in all subjects grows, as does their achievement. Therefore we aim for every child to: Plan and partake in an annual Arts festival and/or school production. Learn to play a musical instrument during school time with no extra charge. Take part in a weekly enrichment activity to explore and develop their own gifts and talents, for example in photography, cooking or website design. These sessions will take take place in mixed aged groups so that pupils will have the opportunity to meet with children from across the school and learn how to teach others younger than themselves. Participate in intra-school sports activities with additional opportunities for inter-school events. We also offer a wider range of sports activities available to all genders, including swimming in year 4.

7 3. ECOLOGY WOODLAND We are extremely fortunate to have access to Rutland Woods in Bearsted, an enclosed area of just over 9 acres of mature woodland with a lake! There is also an Iron Age roundhouse where the children can experience an outdoor classroom. We also have monthly access to a Forest School within walking distance. These opportunities offer a wide range of cross curricular activities including: pond dipping and the study of the habitats of wildlife and insects team work, orienteering, building shelters etc. creative writing and art walks for exercise and enjoyment 4. FAMILY LEARNING COMMUNITY Jubilee Primary School is a resource to the locality; a place of support and training for pupils and the wider community. We provide workshops for Parents/Carers. These include advice on reading, writing and maths at home as well as understanding how their children's progress is accessed. Our open door mornings allow parents to regularly track their children's work. We also have active parent forum and fundraising committees. 5. INPUT FROM INSPIRATIONAL LEADERS AND GROUPS We set high aspirations for our pupils. We are fortunate to have the support from a range of highly skilled and creative professionals. Over the course of their time in school, pupils will benefit from video production, website design, internet and online media education and the creation of multi-media displays. We work with the Creative Arts Academy in Maidstone to develop our Arts curriculum and enrichment activities.1 1

8 Our curriculum School dates will be aligned with those provided by Kent County Council with two exceptions; the academic year will finish a week later; and the October half term will be two weeks, rather than one. This is to help reduce the slippage in children s levels over the summer holidays and allows a longer break after an often busy first term back in September. Five days across the year will be used for staff training with advance warning given to parents. Learning will be holistic, impacting the child s whole development, with a staff team who are passionate about teaching. We will teach the same subjects as any other mainstream school but with the addition of weekly, timetabled enrichment activities, a greater emphasis on the Creative and Performing Arts, and optional afterschool activities. ENGLISH: Reading, phonics and writing will be taught daily through the bespoke Read, Write, Inc programme, across the whole school. Children will be streamed across all year groups according to reading ability to provide highly tailored provision. This programme also has a high focus on language development which we feel is integral to being skilled for life. MATHEMATICS: Jubilee Primary will follow a numeracy programme that uses real-life objects, active learning and special vocabulary as a highly enjoyable and effective way of providing children with solid foundations in mathematics. LANGUAGE: All pupils on entry into school will begin to learn Spanish. 13

9 Parental Involvement CREATIVE CURRICULUM: Children will study a new topic each term, incorporating many different subjects of the curriculum and enriched with trips and visits. After school activities are provided from year 1 upwards from 3:00-4:00pm and include a wide range of sports, arts and other activities. Jubilee Primary School views the partnership with Parents and Carers as a vital key to learning and progress. We encourage active participation in the life of the school in a variety of ways: Open door from 8.40 am until 8.55 am for parents to view their children s work Parent workshops Information evenings Sharing assemblies and school presentations The establishment of a Parent Forum The establishment of a parent fundraising group Coffee afternoons By accessing the parent portal to view the progress and attainment of their child Attending parent teacher consultation meetings to discuss their child s progress and next steps Volunteering to be elected as a parent governor We are fully committed to working in partnership with parents and welcome parents and carers sharing their views and ideas with us. 15

10 Admissions What do I do next? Jubilee Primary School Guidance on Admissions You may apply for a reception year place at Jubilee Primary School for the September 2016 intake starting on 10 th November Your child is eligible for a place at Jubilee Primary School if they were born between 1 September 2010 and 31 August You can apply online through Kent County Council at uk/ola or by post. Full details of how to apply will be available when applications open on 11 November. The deadline for applications is 15 January You can apply for up to 3 schools, putting them in order of preference. It s in your best interest to list 3 schools. Naming only one school does not guarantee your child a place at that school or give your child priority for a place over another child, neither does naming a school more than once. The school will have a Published Admission Number, or PAN, of 60 pupils, admitted into two reception year classes each of up to 30 pupils.
