3 General System requirements PC or laptop that operates under XP*, Vista or windows7*. Screen: Screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 USB port: 1 free USB port Rights: administrator rights * Ensure you have administrator rights when you work with XP, Vista or Windows-7. Make sure you have internet access for online software updates! Introduction The Prins Diagnostic Tool is a multipurpose software tool for the Prins AFC platform. The software allows the user to diagnose, calibrate and update the AFC. The Prins diagnostic software is a Windows-based software program. 4 Prins Diagnostic Software installation 1.) Prins website access Before you can install/activate the software you must ordered a username and password for the Prins website from your distributor. With this access, it is possible to log in on the Prins website and to download/activate the software. If you already have a username and password but have forgotten your password you can click on the "forgot your password" button. A new password will be automatically sent to your address. 5 2.) Activate web account When you log on the Prins website for the first time you must enter your account details. You can also change your password in this area of the website. Attention! Make sure you enter your correct address. This address is used for sending information bulletins and PDS licenses. Installation manual PDS Page 4

6 3.) Download/install PDS from Prins Website Login to the Prins website with your username and password. In the dealer area under "Diagnostic Software", various diagnostic software downloads can be found. Software license When you purchase a website access your Prins Importer will send a License Application Form to Prins. In this application the required software licenses will be requested. The software licenses will be activated when you are trained by the importer and when the license application is approved by Prins. Installation manual PDS Page 5

7 4.) Activation PDS At the moment the software is downloaded and installed the software licenses must be registered. During the first startup of the PDS you will receive the following error message "error (35)" message. Click "OK". You can easily install the software license online. The following message will appear: By selecting the "Check Online" button the following screen will appear. Enter your Prins username and password and select "OK". The released Prins licenses are now automatically activated. Attention! Make sure that you have internet access while activating. - Contact your importer if the licenses cannot be found or if username and password are invalid. Installation manual PDS Page 6

8 Software License Under "Info" >> "License" you can find the activated licenses and the expiry date. When new licenses are released by Prins you can simply install them online by selecting the "Install New License" button. Installation manual PDS Page 7

9 5) Run the Prins Diagnostic Software When the software is installed and activated the PDS is ready to use. In order to establish communication with the AFC the Prins Diagnostic Tool is required. This is a multi-purpose serial USB interface cable. Installation manual PDS Page 8

10 Communication During first use of PDT the interface will be recognized and the driver will be installed automatically! If communication is established the text communication to AFC-2.0 and (PDT # FTU7E4LV) will appear in the status bar. The PDT is recognized! If "disconnected" appears in the status bar then there is no communication possible between the AFC and PDT (PDT is recognized). In this case confirm that: - Whether the diagnostic cable is properly connected; - Whether the vehicle ignition is on / engine running (+15 present); - Fuse is intact / present; - Whether power and ground connections connected. 11 If "communication error" appears in the status bar there is no communication with the PDT. In this case check: -Whether USB cable between PC and PDT is connected properly (the LED flashes PDT); -Whether the PDT (driver) is detected and installed. During first use of PDT the interface will be recognized and will be installed automatically! If the PDT is recognized and the driver is installed correctly then you will find the "Prins Diagnostic Tool" under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Installation manual PDS Page 10

12 When the PDT is not recognized go to Device Manager. - Prins Diagnostic Tool is identified as "other devices". - Right mouse-click on "Prins diagnostic Tool" and select "Scan for hardware changes". - If PDT still isn t recognized ask your system administrator! Attention: Drivers can only be installed with administrator rights. If PDT is not recognized please contact your system administrator. Installation manual PDS Page 11

13 PDS update Software update check The PDS automatically checks for new updates. The computer must be connected to the Internet. At the moment there is an update you automatically get an install message. Is the computer not connected to the Internet and the software is not updated within 45 days a nag screan will appear. During the software updates also new database files and firmware will installed. Attention! If you are not using a proxy server and the check box "Connect to the Internet through a proxy server" is activated an error box will appear (error 95 communication error!). 14 Update instruction PDT for software version R013 or lower. After updating the PDT (to version R014), it will be possible to communicate with the VSI- I diagnostic software. The VSI-I software version should be D2.8.3.x or higher. Update procedure: - Update the VSI-2.0 diagnostic software [Options] [Program] [Check for updates..] - The VSI-2.0 version should be V0.1.3.X or higher (after update). - Close the VSI-2.0 diagnostic program after updating. - Go to [Start] [All Programs] [Prins Autogassystemen BV] [PDT Update Tool] and run the PDT Update Tool program. - Connect the PDT to your laptop/computer. - After the update program has initialized the PDT, press the button update - After updating the PDT, the update tool will show you the new software version. In case the PDT has already the software version R014 or higher, the PDT update tool will not show the update button -> no update is possible/ necessary. Installation manual PDS Page 13
