2 VDL The establishment in 1953 of Metaalindustrie en Constructiewerkplaats P. van der Leegte laid the basis for the VDL Groep. Over time, the family company developed to become a leading player in the subcontracting industry. In the nineties VDL decided to expand its activities to include the production of buses and various finished products. Through targeted acquisitions and autonomous growth, the VDL Groep has grown to become and international industrial company with around 80 operating companies, spread throughout 16 countries, with around 7,100 employees. The VDL Groep develops, produces and sells high quality semi-manufactured products, buses and a wide range of finished products, around 70% of which are destined for export. These products ultimately find their way into numerous different markets, including semiconductors, automotive, medical, agriculture, infrastructure, aviation, solar power, energy and food. VDL is committed to controlled growth, emphasizing the innovation, improvement and expansion of both the production methods and product range. Structure aimed at decisiveness VDL offers continuity. 4 Subcontracting The VDL Groep has built up an excellent national and international position in the subcontracting division. The division has a large number of subcontracting companies that manufacture high-quality metal and/or plastic products, either in combination with or without surface treatment, assembly processes or logistics services. The VDL Groep takes care of the whole project from design and prototyping to manufacturing, assembly and testing. VDL is capable of taking complete responsibility for these projects by means of professional project management. If desired, installation and maintenance can also be provided.
