There are four possible starting dates per year. This will enable you to develop your language skills and combine any number of courses to create a systematic language-learning program. At the start of your course we will ask you about your individual learning goals and follow up with ongoing support during the learning process. This results in tight integration of the classroom lessons, selfstudy activities and practice. SPECIALIZED LANGUAGE FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE Module 1: approx. 4 weeks, Module 2: 4 weeks Module 1: 85 UI*, approx. 25 UI per week Module 2: 120 hours** spent shadowing medical professionals plus 40 UI of tutorials max. class size: 16 2,950 The course dates indicate the arrival and departure dates. (No lessons) Lesson times Monday Friday, 8:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. The continuing education program of the Goethe-Institut Freiburg was developed in cooperation with the Freiburg University Clinic. It is intended for doctors from other countries preparing for work in a German clinic. The aim of the program is to improve communication skills for interactions with patients and colleagues and gain familiarity with standard procedures in German hospitals. It consists of two coordinated modules to provide continuity. MODULE 1 SPECIALIST LANGUAGE COURSE AT THE GOETHE-INSTITUT FREIBURG The specialist language course at the Goethe-Institut Freiburg provides participants with the fundamentals for communication in the medical profession. This includes, among other aspects: medical vocabulary, structure of the German healthcare system, taking case histories, physical examinations, patient presentation, medication, patient interviews and written documentation / doctor s letters. The language skills acquired in Module 1 are practiced while sitting in on everyday clinical processes under the supervision of doctors. In the tutorials, these skills are explored in greater depth.
