2 Lean and healthy with Vanessa Ascencao Nutritional Consultant There s a new way to get lean and healthy and to stay that way! It s called the eco diet and it s been specially formulated by nutritional consultant Vanessa Ascencao. Vanessa has a Masters degree in Science and Nutrition and has consulted to corporates, media personalities and leading health and wellness companies. Now, she has developed the eco diet, encompassing mostly organic, natural and raw food, as well as Spirulina. It s aimed at healthy weight loss, increased energy and looking and feeling great. Vanessa s plan advocates mostly organic and a high percentage of natural and raw food, and natural supplementation with Marcus Rohrer Spirulina. In addition to slimming, the eco diet promotes: Increased energy Decreased stress Reduced signs of ageing Feeling good and looking amazing Vanessa says weight loss is simple: eat less and move more. She says most diets are aimed at reducing calorie intake. Ideally, we should lose fat and maintain lean body mass and this requires a different macro-nutrient ratio, coupled with some resistance exercise. So, the right ratios of nutrients, and not food per se, are important. We also don t want the result of all out hard work to be only weight loss. We want to feel good, look good, have a great sex drive, more energy, great skin and hair, a strong immune system, a positive outlook and a zest for life, says Vanessa.
3 the new eco diet The eco diet is aimed at long term results and embraces a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. It begins with eliminating toxic foods, eating correctly and supplementing. The cleaner you eat, the leaner and healthier you ll be. Here I mean lean proteins, fruit, an abundance of vegetables, some whole grains and essential fats. At least half of your diet should comprise raw fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. The rest should comprise lean, hormone-free protein sources, mainly fish. Whole grains like quinoa are great but stay away from the overly processed and refined wholegrains, including bread or anything with wheat! Vanessa advocates Marcus Rohrer Spirulina for supplementation. It s the best Spirulina in the world, is backed by research and is one of the richest and most complete source of nutrition availabe in the world. Top Ten Tips 1. Balance blood sugar levels avoid stimulants and sugar. 2. Eat natural and whole food avoid over processed food. 3. After 3pm, make veggies your carbs have oatmeal, rye bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes, fruit, and quinoa early in the day and salads and steamed vegetables later. 4. Eat good fat, especially Omega-3-rich food. 5. Keep your dinner lean protein and greens. 6. Eat balanced snacks and meals. Eating wholesome carbs, protein and fat at every meal keeps blood sugar levels from spiking and crashing. This controls energy levels and keeps cravings at bay. 7. Eat & drink food for the soul in moderation. 8. Drink water. Stay away from chemical and artificial drinks. 9. Sleep for at least 7 8 hours every night. 10. Focus on resistance training 3-4 times a week.
4 Vanessa has developed two eating plans - the Intermediate Lifestyle Plan and the Advanced Lifestyle Plan. The intermediate plan is a great way to start eating healthier, while the advanced plan is a more intense cleansing and detoxifying programme. Intermediate Lifestyle Plan Upon waking: Hot water and the juice of ½ a lemon with five Spirulina tablets. Breakfast: ½ cup rolled oats with some berries or grated apple with cinnamon and a little honey. or: 1 chopped apple or pear, 15 almonds (raw with skins), 100g fat-free, plain yoghurt or cottage cheese, add some cinnamon. or: 1 slice of rye, some fresh tomato and a boiled egg or some cottage cheese. Lunch: Five Spirulina tablets. Grilled or baked fish or tinned tuna. Have a large mixed salad of your choice which includes vegetables. One tablespoon of cold pressed olive oil. or: Quinoa or sweet potato with a large raw salad and some vegetables. Snack: Hummus and veggies. or: Apple with 15 raw almonds or a tablespoon of sugarfree natural peanut butter. Dinner: Large raw salad and cooked vegetables with 120g of a lean protein of your choice (ostrich, fish,chicken, or a healthy egg white omelette) with vegetables - add 1 tablespoon of cold pressed olive oil.
5 Advanced Lifestyle Plan Upon waking: Hot water and lemon (optional: add some ginger to really add a boost!). 8am: Papaya and some lemon with raw almonds (a handful) or a vegetable juice with carrot, apple, celery, parsley and beetroot or a combination thereof. * Five Spirulina Noon - 1pm: Big raw salad with rocket, romaine or butter lettuce, avocado, tomato, carrots, with either grilled chicken breast or some grilled fish or tuna in brine, add some olive oil and lemon juice, if you wish. * Five Spirulina 3pm: Vegetable juice if you didn t have one earlier or some fresh fruit (1 type only) with some raw almonds. Frozen blueberries and strawberries are amazing with almonds, or some apple and natural, unsalted sugarfree peanut butter. 6:30-7pm: Lots of steamed or baked veggies (green beans, beetroot, pumpkin, butternut, broccoli, mushrooms, any of the green veg). Again, either add another protein source (fish, or chicken,ostrich ) or a starch like quinoa or a sweet potato. NOTE: This is an intense cleansing plan and yields the greatest results. If followed diligently, it will result in an increase in energy and vitality, will assist in reaching ideal body weight, help reduce cellulite and improve skin tone and overall health and well being. You may need to start with option 1 and make a transition to the advanced plan.
