Introduction to INTERIM The further integration of the neighbourhood countries of the EU is a central challenge for the CADSES area. Especially, sustainable transport relations in the CADSES area are needed to promote the further integration into the Single European Market. Interoperability in terms of goods is a backbone for this issue and a better integration of the intermodal transport in spatial development strategies is needed. Priorities of CADSES programme: Promoting spatial development approaches and efficient / sustainable transport systems CADSES area: Locations of project partners
Basic Facts There is obviously a high need to extend the existing intermodal goods networks in Middle Europe towards South-East Europe. The countries Romania, Bulgaria as well as Croatia are the gates to the Black Sea region, East Mediterranean Sea as well as Middle/Far East in the sense of spatial development. Black Sea Region, Middle and Far East Specific emphasis will be given to the harbour-hinterland connectivity and the role of the river Danube. Eastern Mediterra. Sea Levant, Middle East CADSES area: Directions of improvement of intermodal networks and integration in spatial development processes
Strategic objectives INTERIM defined the following strategic objectives - long-term perspective: 1. Improvement of cooperation in the CADSES area 2. Integration of intermodal transport issues into spatial planning and regional development concepts 3. Joint use of IT-based planning and information tools (pilot: intermodal goods transport)
Concrete results Overview (reports): (Trans)- Regional development schemes Intermodal infrastructure, operators and services Regional interfaces /missing links Demand for intermodal services Accessibility and interconnectivity of regions Intermodal performances Intermodality needs common planning, accessibility and connectivity
Concrete results IT Tool: Intermodal integration platform contact data of actors, capacities, technical requirements and constraints > support for the extension of intermodal services Intermodal information platform for transport and regional development administrations information about intermodal transport modes > improved integration of intermodal issues in spatial planning, understanding of industrial and regional needs, assessment of the effects of network changes Common planning needs quick exchange of ideas and assessment
Concrete results Concepts for: Intermodal liner services Value added services Harbour-hinterland connections Intermodal action plan: Suggestions for integration of intermodal issues in regional development plans Missing links Organisational issues, etc. Common planning means also coordinated and harmonised results and recommendations as well as support of new ideas and concepts
