1 Chemical Resistance of Polypropylene and Polyethylene Generally speaking, the chemical resistance of polypropylene and polyethylene is considered superior to that of metals. They are unaffected by most inorganic acids, alkalis, and aqueous solutions which rapidly corrode metals, although some concentrated acids and oxidizing agents can attack them, especially at elevated temperatures. IMPORTANT NOTICE: This data refers to drainage systems usage only. For chemicals not listed, check with Orion. The information appearing here has been assembled from sources believed to be reliable, but is not guaranteed by Orion. Orion is not responsible for its accuracy or reliabilty. In manufacturing its products, Orion uses raw materials manufactured by others, and Orion has no control over the methods used in installing its products or the conditions under which they are used. It does not make any representation concerning either the chemical resistance properties of its products or the toxicological effects of chemicals reacting with them. Nothing appearing here should be considered as a recommendation for any use that would infringe patent rights or an endorsement for the use of any particular material or chemical or any class of materials or chemicals.
