4 Day 1: Introduction and Trends Introduction: What does Europe mean to you? - Who s here - Expectations - Brainstorming on the meaning of Europe Starting off: It s all about your future! - My wishes for the year Personal and general visions and goals Setting the frame: Innovation - What is innovation? students define the concept and name 3 socio-political and technical innovations Setting the frame: Megatrends - Climate Change - Conflict over resources - Globalisation - Sustainability - What does the future hold? What are the consequences for Europe? 4

5 Day 2: Developing Ideas Creativity Workshop Phase 2: Utopia Analysis of trends around Energy & Environment in Europe in 2020 : Security of Energy Supply Investment in Renewable Energies Nuclear energy Energy consumption Recycling and waste management Sustainable development Saving water Cross-Border Protection of the Environment - Students develop their first innovative ideas and concepts for the Europe of tomorrow with regards to the specific topic. Creativity Workshop Phase 1: Critique What do we not like in Europe concerning Energy & Environment? What would we like to change? Communicating results successfully - Students learn about and apply presentation, facilitation and communication methods and technologies. 5

6 Day 3: Practical Insights Feedback from the Expert Students receive feedback from experts and practitioners on their first ideas as well as tips and recommendations. From a practical point of view, the experts share their knowledge about the topic and answer the students questions. The topic is put into the European context. Students learn about the different aspects of the topic: - Aspect 1 renewable energy: How to save our resources for tomorrow - Aspect 2 nonrenewable energy: What s our present resource depletion? And what kind of load it brings to the environment? - Aspect 3 view to the future:what is the sustainable way? - Aspect 4 economic instruments: What do we use already and what are the trade-offs? - Aspect 5 energy situation in CR and in Europe 6

7 Day 4: Reality-Check The dynamics of different interests Real-life simulation - Three political parties develop their manifestos and compete for citizens votes - A critical NGO monitors the developments and tries to bring in its objectives - The press eagerly reports on what is going on» Within the framework of a role play, students experience the power play in today s political life: different interests meet and compete and only the most convincing ones among them will get their message through. The resulting ideas are presented at Europe 2020, the European Election campaign event. - Students present their ideas, concepts and the critical assessment thereof and have to face the feedback and comments of a demanding audience. 7

8 Day 5: Putting the results to vote A Parliamentary Debate on the topic of the future - Students present their manifestos and themselves before an audience consisting of representatives and staff of the hosting school, the partnering organisation, invited guests and the press. The audience gives feedback... and votes - Discussion of the final results - Voting for the most convincing party: - Evropští Royalisté, Pražská komuna, Evropská strana inovace How was it? - Students give their feedback on the project week 8

9 Results Manifesto 1 Kreativní Aliance Evropských Royalistů, Jednota pro Budoucnost! Creative Alliance of European Royalists, Unity for Future! Our goals: - European unity and integration - completely open borders within the EU - to increase living standard in Europe - to support development of private enterprise - to support the research of alternative energy resources - to reduce emissions Environmental policy: - massive forestation by the autochthonous stands - increasing the stock of wildlife - cleaning of the body of water and setting-out of fishes - reduction of emissions and glass-house gases - broadening the green parts of towns - investment into alternative energy resources development 9

10 Results Manifesto 2 Pražská komuna, Evropská sociálně demokratická strana: Svoboda, Rovnost, Spravedlnost, Solidarita Prague commune, European socio-democratic party: Freedom, Equality, Justice, Solidarity Our program: Cheap and quality energy - European energy market integration - Ability to sell electric energy into non-european countries - Investment into reduction of energy losses - We want to reduce CO2 emissions - We support the research of nuclear waste utilization Ecological program - the cost of products polluting the environment will contain payment for liquidation - for every felled tree, two more planted - garbage sorting as a low obligation - supporting of ecological way of transportation (public transp., bicycle) - greenery in towns protection and planting 10

11 Results Manifesto 3 Evropská politická strana Inovace, Úspěch a štěstí je v komunikaci European political party of Innovation, Success and Happiness lie in communication Our goals: - gradually getting out from the economy based on oil industry - don t disturb natural character of the landscape - cooperation with other political parties within EU - supporting nature-friendly tourism and agro-tourism - development of alternative energy resources and recycling - better thermo-isolation of buildings - organizing international congresses and conferences - global development of the environment - regular environmental school education - supporting employment and socially disadvantaged people - ecologic = economic using of energy resources 11

12 Results Input from NGO LUMINAR Our main goals: - to contribute to better state of the environment - to eliminate emisions of greenhouse gases - to support using of alternative energy sources (biomass, son, water, wind, geothermal energy) - to decrease the coal and oil mining Our activities: - Preparation of lessons for Universities and secondary schools - Creating informational materials (flyers, web page, billboards, posters) - Organising public discussion meetings with policy makers - Critical monitoring of political activities and environment-friendly policies implementation 12

13 Press article by ENVVATCH European Parliament elections Whose program is the best? Prague, Three political parties will vie for our votes in Friday s turn of European Parliament elections at Ekogymnazium! Who are they and what is their vision of future development of the environment and energy policy? We have observed their programs. Kreativní aliance evropských royalistů calls for Unity for Future and their main goals are mainly concerned on nature preservation and investment into alternative energy resources supporting. They want to support the development of private enterprise and European integration as well. But what do they mean with their plan on the European constitutional monarchy creation? Is it serious or do they just provoke? European Socialist Pražská komuna promotes European energy market integration and except of their concentration on decreasing prices of energy, they want to invest into research of nuclear waste utilization. Better quality of life in towns is also a big topic for this party. The remaining one Evropská strana inovace focuses most complexly on green policy. Their program is based on environmental education, nature friendly tourism, preservation of landscape and also support of alternative energy resources using. They want gradually gett out from the economy based on oil industry. What are the concrete steps the politicians want to do for achieving the goals?
