2 There are a number of self-assessment tools available to support organisations on their journey towards excellence, using the EFQM Excellence Model As with any tool, knowing what to use and when to use it helps ensure you get the desired outcome. 3 We ve listed the tools available from EFQM here in order of the complexity of the tool and the maturity of the intended organisation, starting from those who have never seen the EFQM Excellence Model before through to those preparing to apply for Recognised for Excellence and EFQM Excellence Award. 2

4 EFQM Quick Check Description: Assess the maturity of key approaches in place and prioritise them against your strategic objectives Format: MS Excel worksheet Audience: Organisations that have not done a self-assessment before Purpose: Do a quick assessment against of 20 key building blocks to identify current strengths and priority improvement areas. Links to the Business Excellence Matrix, as next step assessment. Scoring: Simple scoring profile Source: Developed and shared by Ricoh Notes: A guidance document is also available which explains how to use the spreadsheet. Committed to Excellence compatible Questionnaire: Determining Excellence Description: A simple self-assessment tool, with about 5 questions per criteria Format: EFQM Publication Audience: Organisations that have not done a self-assessment before Purpose: To provide a simple assessment against the 9 criteria, identifying current strengths and priority areas for improvement. Scoring: No, but can easily be adapted in-house to produce a score Available: Order at the EFQM Webshop Notes: Committed to Excellence compatible Simple Self- Assessment Description: Rate your organisation s maturity against the 8 Fundamental Concepts of Excellence Format: MS Word Audience: Organisations that have not done a self-assessment before Purpose: Identify where are, where you want to be and what actions need to be taken. Scoring: No Released: Updated for 2013 and used in the Journey to Excellence course Notes: Committed to Excellence compatible 3

5 EFQM Business Excellence Matrix Description: Simple Self-Assessment tool that can also produce an Enabler Map submission document. Format: MS Excel spreadsheet Audience: Organisations who are considering applying for Recognised for Excellence in the future Purpose: This tool will allow you to complete a self-assessment against the 9 criteria and score using a simplified version of the RADAR. You use the information captured to generate an Enabler Map. Scoring: Yes (maximum score is limited to 600 points to prevent over-scoring) Source: Developed and shared by Ricoh Notes: A guidance document is also available which explains how to best work with the spreadsheet. Recognised for Excellence compatible EFQM Excellence Assessment Matrix Description: Self-Assessment tool that can also produce an Enabler Map submission document. Format: MS Excel spread sheet Audience: Organisations who are considering applying for EFQM Excellence Award in the future Purpose: This tool will allow you to complete a self-assessment against the 9 criteria and score using a simplified version of the RADAR.
