CAP G1000 Training (29 May 13) This CAP G1000 Training Course is the primary G1000 training syllabus used by Civil Air Patrol. All other G1000 training courses are considered continuing education. Two major items occur with the inception of this program: 1) a new pilot category of G1000 and 2) a dedicated CAP G1000 Course which provides guidance to s on how to teach the revised material. Revisions to the VFR module include less autopilot emphasis and more stick & rudder skills (eyes out of the cockpit) while students are familiarized with a glass panel. All G1000 courses are face-to-face instruction, or instructor lead webinar with real-time voice interaction, for both s and Students. There is a 180 day grace period primarily for course instructors to transition to the new course. At the end of the 180 day grace period (on 10 June 2013), any current G1000,, Examiner must have completed the CAP before teaching a CAP G1000 course or providing CAP G1000 flight training. Please see Matrix below. The Course and Materials are located in Ops Quals on the TAA Transition Training Courses platform linked here and on the CAP Pilot s webpage. As a bi-product of this course, the currently required 15 hours of flight/instruction for In-House Trained candidates is removed from CAPR G1000 VFR CAP G1000 Course - Grace Period Transition Matrix G1000 IFR G1000 VFR IFR Checkride G1000 Qualified G1000 Qualified In House Trained G1000 Qualified In House Trained G1000 Qualified required not required 1 of 5
GETTING STARTED: All G1000 ground schools are designed to be face-to-face instruction, or instructor lead webinar with real-time voice interaction, for both s and Students. IP/CP/CPE: The Spring 2012 NEC approved current G1000 Examiners (CPE) and the Check Pilots (CP) and Pilots (IP) who participated in the Beta Test to take on this task. Ops Quals has been updated to reflect G1000 VFR/IFR/INSTRUCTOR (CAP Trained) in a similar manner to that found for Cessna trained pilots. In order to get the first batch of Course s (CI) validated, Ops Quals has been updated to show all current G1000 CPEs to be listed as G1000 Examiners (CAP Trained). That means that during the 180 day grace period, the initial G1000 CPEs (CAP Trained) listed in Ops Quals will be qualified to teach transitioning G1000 CPs and IPs. Before initiating any classroom activity, a G1000 CPE (CAP Trained) must review and familiarize themselves with the online CAP G1000 material in order to understand how the new course should be taught. For example, there is a new pilot category, G1000, which emphasizes stick and rudder flying, reduces heads- down time, and de-emphasizes use of the auto-pilot until later in the module. To expedite implementation, those G1000 CPs and IPs who participated in the Beta Test are already listed in Ops Quals as G1000 s/s (CAP Trained). What would normally be considered approval for course completion is unnecessary in this case, since all applicants are currently G1000 IP/CPs. Validation upon completion of the ground school for these applicants (s, et al) will be the responsibility of the Course. APPROVALS/VALIDATIONS: Other than the transitioning G1000 s (CAP Trained), et al, the Approval and Validation process after completing the various CAP G1000 Transition Course Modules for new applicants will remain unchanged; however, they will be listed as G1000 VFR/IFR/Inst/CP/CPE (CAP Trained). All current G1000 Pilots are grandfathered as G1000 Pilots (CAP Trained) and; although not required, are encouraged to take the G1000 VFR Ground School as continuing education. 2 of 5
TO RECEIVE/RECORD G1000 TRAINING CREDIT: To receive/record G1000 training credit after course completion complete the following process. Go into Ops Quals to the Home > Pilot > Prerequisites page. On the Prerequisites page, check the appropriate course completion box; this automatically dates course completion and makes it available for validated by the CC/DO, or DOV. THE CAPF 5 IS ESSENTIAL TO YOUR G1000 QUALIFICATION IN OPS QUALS: Accurate and inclusive completion of the CAPF5 is essential to ensure that all G1000 qualifications are captured and recorded in the Ops Quals system. To ensure that your records reflect qualification in all G1000 equipped aircraft, on the CAPF 5, be sure to check all applicable endorsement items in the Additional CAP Endorsements section as well as all applicable Certificates Exercised and list all CAP aircraft types you are qualified in under the Aircraft Make & Model section. This data will be uploaded after successful completion of a CAPF 5 flight evaluation. Accurate and inclusive completion of the CAPF5 is critical as pilot linkage to G1000 type aircraft has been removed in the system and replaced with a G1000 Endorsement which is applicable to all aircraft when endorsed. POST GRACE PERIOD MATRIX (EFFECTIVE: 10 JUNE 2013): After completion of the 180 day grace period, this CAP G1000 Course Matrix will be in effect. G1000 VFR CAP G1000 Course Post Grace Period Matrix (Effective: 10 June 2013) G1000 IFR G1000 VFR IFR Checkride In House Trained In House Trained required not required Frequently asked questions start on the next page. 3 of 5
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 1. Question: Who can train others? Answer: Basically, the G1000 CPE's (Cessna Trained) were grandfathered into Ops Quals as CAP trained G1000 CPE's in order to jump start the program. Those CPEs are expected to review the online course material to know what is in the new course and the change in emphasis items before conducting an on-site ground school for all transitioning G1000 (Cessna Trained) IPs and CPs. In addition to the G1000 CPE's, all participants (IP/CP) in the course's Beta Test are qualified in Ops Quals already as CAP Trained. 2. Question: Where do I find G1000 training materials? Answer: Log into eservices and go to Ops Quals, next go to the section labeled: Home > About Ops Quals > Training Material. There you ll see the following section with course links: CFI Transition Material o Course o Flight Scenarios 3. How Do I receive/record G1000 Training? Answer: To receive G1000 training credit after course completion, go into Ops Quals to: Home > Pilot > Prerequisites. On the Prerequisites page, check the appropriate course completion box; this automatically dates course completion and makes it available for validated by the CC/DO, or DOV. 4. Question: Are all current G1000 CPE (CAP Trained) that are listed in Ops Quals are qualified to teach the new CAP G1000 IP transition course to existing current G1000 IP/CP/CPE. This is not just the Beta CPE's, is any of the CPE G1000 (CAP Trained) listed including them can teach this course in the 180 day transition time period? Answer: All current G1000 CPEs (provided they first review and understand the CAP G1000 Training slides) and all Beta Testers are qualified to teach the new CAP G1000 Training Course course to any CAP pilot. 5. Question: Must the G1000 CPE listed in Ops Quals review and familiarized themselves with the IP training course prior to teaching the course? Answer: Yes 6. Question: Can any G1000 CPE (CAP Trained) be a G1000 Course instructor and teach the course. Answer: Yes 4 of 5
7. Question: After CAP G1000 ground school course completion, is the Course IP responsible for validation of this course in Ops Quals for those who attended and completed this course. Answer: The course IP submits the course completion data into Ops Quals. Only those in leadership positions who can currently validate endorsements can validate the G1000 course completion, similar to any other endorsement validation in the Ops Quals system. 8. Question: Is a CAP Form 5 required for current G1000 IP/CP/CPE to be validated as G1000 IP/CP/CPE (CAP Trained)? Answer: No, however they must review and familiarize themselves with the training course prior to validation. 9. Question: Can a Webinar training session be used for this initial IP/CP training? Answer: Webinar instruction is acceptable as long as it is instructor lead with real-time voice interaction, for both s and Students. 10. Question: Can current & qualified G1000 check pilots continue to give G1000 check rides, prior to completing the CAP G1000 instructor ground school? Answer: Yes, current & qualified G1000 check pilots may continue to conduct G1000 flight evaluations prior to completing the CAP G1000 instructor ground school until 10 June 2013 (end of the 180 day grace period). On 10 June 2013, all IP/CP G1000 qualifications will be removed unless they have completed the CAP G1000 course requirements prior to that date. 11. Question: Following the "review and understand" the CAP Training slides (See FAQ 4), should the CPE check the following boxes under Prerequisites: VFR - Completed CAP G1000 IFR - Completed CAP G1000 Answer: Yes, provided they are reviewed and understood. 12. Question: Under Appointments, since we CPE's are grandfathered and approved a Check Pilot Examiners - G1000 (CAP Trained), should we also check the boxes for the following appointments: - G1000 (CAP Trained) Pilot - G1000 (CAP Trained) Answer: Yes, after reviewing and understanding all of the CAP G1000 training material. 13. Question: Is there anything else we need to do in Ops Qual prior to teaching the G1000 using CAP Training? Answer: Be sure that all of your CAP G1000 training, endorsements, and appointments are approved/validated properly in the Ops Quals system accurately reflecting your CAP G1000 qualification.
