12 Important Instructions and Information regarding Subject Combinations: 1. These combinations are liable to change as per the latest Panjab University instructions. The latest instructions will be displayed on the college notice board. 2. There are limited seats in each combination and these shall be offered on the basis of merit/first come first served basis, according to the Admission Schedule of this college. 3. Change of combination is subject to the availability of seats in the combination to be taken up only within one month of admission to B.A I. Therefore, students are advised to select the subject combination very carefully after thorough consideration and consultation. Students may seek the help of Subject Combinations Guidance Committee specially set up for B.A I Class. 4. With the permission of the principal, seats in Music (I), Music (V ) and Sanskrit can be adjusted for the students having previous training in these subjects. 5. Only those students who have passed 10+2 examination with minimum of 40% marks in Mathematics can opt for Mathematics. 6. Students are advised to leave the subject combination column blank in the Admission Form. This column should be filled up only in the presence of the Admission Committee. Eligibility for taking up the subject of Physical Education 1. Physical Education can be taken up by those students who have either studied the subject in the previous class or have participated in Inter School/State/Open State tournaments. Certificates in this regard should be produced at the time of interview. 2. As per the new guidelines of the Panjab University, the admission of students in Physical Education shall be finalised after conducting a Physical Fitness Test/ Cooper s 12 minutes run/walk test. The subject will be offered to physically fit students. 3. The admission to sports quota (i.e. 2%) will be done on the basis of gradation issued by the appropriate authority. 4. The practical class is compulsory as per the Dept. /College time table. Instructions for taking up the subject of Functional English in B.A. I : 1. Functional English is a job-oriented vocational course at the undergraduate level. It acts as a foundation course for careers in Mass Communication, i.e. in Radio, T.V. and Print media, as well as in call centres and other areas where fluency in English is the pre-requisite. 2. (Semester System) Eligibility (a) (b) (c) (d) A bachelor s degree in Commerce with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate; OR B.Com (Hons) degree with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate; OR A bachelor s degree with Honours in Economics OR Mathematics OR Statistics OR Commerce with not less than 45% in the aggregate; OR A bachelor s degree with 50% marks in the aggregate having offered either Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or Commerce as a subject in the examination. In case of a candidate having Bachelor s degree of the University through Modern Indian Language [Hindi/Urdu/Punjabi/Gurmukhi Script] and/ or in a Classical Language (Sanskrit/ Persian/Arabic) or degree of any other University obtained in the same manner recognized by the Syndicate; 50% marks in the aggregate shall be calculated by taking into account full percentage of marks in all the papers in Language excluding the additional optional paper, English and the elective subject taken together; OR (e) (f) An associate of the (i) Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or England or (ii) Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India or England; OR A pass in the final examination conducted (g) by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India; OR Any other qualification recognized by the Syndicate for this purpose: A candidate who seeks admission on the basis of qualifications mentioned in (c), (d), (e) above shall be required to qualify a special examination in two papers on (i) Commercial and Taxation Laws, and (ii) Accounting and Auditing, within one year from the date of Admission (either with Semester I examination or with Semester II examination), in accordance with the Syllabus as may be prescribed by the Senate. The tutor will maintain a record of the student s conduct, health, attendance and progress in studies as well as his participation in co-curricular activities. Tutorial group meetings will be held as notified by the Principal from time to time. Students are advised to see the notice board daily. Educational Tours Subsidized educational tours are undertaken every year by students under different programmes for data collection, field surveys, visits to industries, business houses, financial institutions, legislatures, libraries, laboratories, training institutes, newspaper offices, educational and social institutions, museums, archeological sites, and places of historical importance. Most of these tours are essential for the course structures, and are guided by the teachers. Cultural Activities The college provides an opportunity to the students to participate in Dramatics, Music, Dance, Painting, Public Speaking and Quiz etc., at the Youth Festival and Inter College Competitions. Guidance and Counselling Cell The college has a Guidance and Counselling Cell under the charge of Mr Rajesh Kumar. Career-oriented information is available to the students on all working days. Placement Cell The college has a placement cell which provides valuable services regarding campus placement to the college students. Many MNCs and other leading companies visit the college campus and select students for jobs in various fields. Women s Forum The college has reactivated the Women s Forum with the aim to discuss and solve the problems of the girls and to enlighten them about their rights and duties. Mrs Neelam Rekhi & Dr (Mrs) Hem Nagpal are in-charge of the Forum. Internal Complaints Committee The college also has an internal complaints committee under the charge of the Vice Principal, Mr Harjinder Singh, & Mrs Sunila Soi to prevent sexual harassment against women at work place. The College Library The college library is automated & provides free Internet facility to its readers. The book 108 bank facility to the deserving and meritorious students is also available. The College Library has the distinction of showing educational programmes telecast by Discovery, National Geographic, & History Channels, etc. to students. Admission for Boys in the Hostel Boy students are allotted 25 seats in the Govt College of Education, Sector 20, Chandigarh, subject to the availability of seats. Admission for Girls in the Hostel The college recommends 10 seats for girl students in the Govt College of Education, Sector-20 Chandigarh subject to the availability of seats. Note: -In the case of admission to Boys & Girls Hostel, parents must accompany the student who is seeking admission to the hostel for the first time. The hostel warden, according to the rules framed by the college, will make admissions to the hostel. The College Magazine The college brings out an annual college magazine, Amaranth, to give expression to the creative urge of the students. Mrs. Sunila Soi is the Chief Editor. Subject Societies Subject societies of the various departments of the college organise lectures, seminars, declamation contests and education trips etc. throughout the year to update the knowledge of the students and provide them a forum to develop their all round personality.
