Five people. Five hearing losses. Each wears an IMPACT hearing system. Since December 9, five people have been fitted with IMPACT hearing instruments. Each one has an individual lifestyle and hearing loss which has presented specific problems to overcome. Whether it's listening to the television, mobile phone or music using Tek or benefiting from a more comfortable listening experience, IMPACT has made a real difference to their lives. 2

It allows the user to easily and conveniently listen to their television, mobile phone, MP3 player and other audio devices through their IMPACT hearing instruments, all in stereo sound. Tek is also a remote control for the IMPACT hearing instruments. Link to your TV Link to your mobile Link to your music ProPocket The optional ProPocket remote control provides ease of use for patients who experience problems with dexterity. The remote control enables the user (or carer) to switch the hearing instruments on & off and change program or volume settings. It is small enough to fit into a pocket or purse, so quick and easy adjustments can be made to the hearing instrument without others noticing. 4
...a great difference in the quality of sound... 5
IMPACT case studies Tech savvy Gary Mortimer is a 4-year-old Senior Project Manager from West Sussex. He enjoys his career working for a health service provider but has struggled with his hearing in certain environments. Working in an open plan office, keeping up with family conversations and watching television began to get more difficult. Gary previously only wore one hearing instrument but has recently been fitted with two new devices from Siemens. I used to have a problem hearing in the office and at home. Now I have been fitted with IMPACT R the sound is very clear and they are really comfortable to wear, said Gary. Another huge benefit is the great gadgets that are compatible with Tek. Using it, I have noticed a great difference in the quality of sound, particularly when listening to music k 2k 4k 8k Hz Previous hearing instrument history NHS digital hearing instrument worn in one ear k 2k 4k 8k Hz How was Gary fitted? 8 Getting fitted with a hearing instrument gave me back my confidence... 7
IMPACT case studies Confident and Career driven Christine Van Rooyen is a 57-year-old Clinical Services Head from North Yorkshire. Enjoying a fast moving career, Christine was looking for her next career step when she started struggling to keep up with conversations at work. She found herself missing things in meetings and felt embarrassed that she appeared confused to colleagues or gave the impression she did not understand what was being said. It was only as the problems worsened that Christine started to realise that she was not hearing properly and was prompted by an advertisement to get her hearing tested k 2k 4k 8k Hz k 2k 4k 8k Hz Despite all the problems that I was experiencing, I was surprised to find that I had a hearing loss. Getting fitted with a hearing instrument gave me back my confidence and my career. I am amazed at the difference it has made, said Christine. IMPACT L I like the fact that you only have to change the program on one hearing instrument and the other automatically adjusts. It s great when you re in a hurry, in a meeting or theatre as it's less conspicuous than trying to adjust both hearing instruments at the same time. Previous hearing instrument history Binaural digital hearing instruments How was Christine fitted? 11 IMPACT case studies Keeping in touch with family Bob Haddon is an 87-year-old retired electrical salesman from West Sussex who has been deaf for the last ten years. Initially, Bob refused to recognise he had a hearing problem, even though family members would comment on how loud he was talking and the fact that he had difficulties hearing full conversations and using the telephone. Others would also comment that they could hear his TV from the end of the drive. On reaching his mid-eighties, Bob realised it wasn t fair to expect his family and friends to keep repeating themselves and so he opted to seek the advice of an audiologist. Bob was fitted with silver binaural Siemens IMPACT M hearing instruments, which were integrated with Siemens Tek. The Bluetooth receiver was then configured to connect Bob s IMPACTS to a range of devices including his house phone, TV and radio player. As I was a wireless operator in Burma during the war, I think it is quite fitting that I m now benefiting from Bluetooth wireless technology. Once I was fitted with IMPACT I was amazed at the difference it made. IMPACT M "Keeping in touch with my family is the most important thing to me and I feel my new hearing instruments are making a huge difference to not only me but my family too. The sound clarity and quality is excellent for watching the TV and very good for listening to music as I can now listen at a much lower volume than before k 2k 4k 8k Hz Previous hearing instrument history First time wearer How was Bob fitted? 12 ...extremely comfortable to wear in all listening environments... 11
IMPACT case studies Confident at work Robert Bennett is a 64-year-old Operational Support Manager from East Sussex who has worn hearing instruments for a number of years. Due to the nature of his job, which is based at Gatwick Airport, Robert wanted the latest technology to keep up with the demands of his day to day role. Robert struggled to answer mobile phone calls as he first had to remove one of his hearing instruments from his ear, something he was also quite self-conscious about. This, coupled with the fact that he works in such a noisy environment, meant Robert needed more from his hearing instruments He was fitted with silver binaural Siemens IMPACT DP hearing instruments, which were integrated with Siemens Tek. The Bluetooth receiver was then configured to connect Robert s IMPACTs to a range of devices including his house phone, TV and radio k 2k 4k 8k Hz k 2k 4k 8k Hz Previous hearing instrument history NHS digital hearing instruments I previously wore Siemens PRISMA hearing instruments, which helped me enormously in both work and home life situations, but having worn them for a number of years I decided I wanted to upgrade the technology. IMPACT DP Since being fitted with IMPACT, I have already noticed a huge difference. I wear the instruments for hours a day and the Tek system is better than anything I have used in the past. They are extremely comfortable to wear in all listening environments. Overall I have found them to be excellent. How was Robert fitted? NHS clinic Binaural REM NAL NL1 4 programs (P1 Universal, P2 Bluetooth phone, P3 Noisy environment, P4 Tek) Previous hearing difficulties Listening to the phone Listening in a noisy environment at work Outcome Better communication at work Improved sound quality Now listening to mobile phone, TV and music using Tek 12
I can hear what people are saying more clearly without having to look at their lips... 13
IMPACT case studies Achieving aspirations Kellie Moody is a 25-year-old make-up artist and model from Leicester and has been deaf since birth. Kellie has had to deal with many issues and prejudices surrounding her hearing loss at school, socially and in her adult working life. In 7 Kellie became the first Miss Deaf UK and the following year was a semi-finalist on the BBC Three programme Britain s Missing Top Model. Today, Kellie has achieved her aspirations of becoming a successful model, having been signed as the face of Siemens Hearing Instruments I can hear what people are saying more clearly without having to look at their lips and using Tek and hearing the television is amazing for me. The sound is much clearer and I can hear where sound is coming from. I can also hear the difference in the sound of people's voices. If someone has a deep voice, I can hear the difference. I can also hear myself clearer. IMPACT DSP k 2k 4k 8k Hz Previous hearing instrument history NHS analogue and digital hearing instruments How was Kelly fitted? NHS clinic Binaural REM NAL NL1 - SPF 3 programs (P1 Universal, P2 Noisy environment, P3 Tek) Previous hearing difficulties Listening to speech Hearing customers whilst at work k 2k 4k 8k Hz Outcome Able to hear speech without lip reading Improved sound quality Now listening to TV for the first time using Tek 14
