BASIC INFORMATION CONECO / RACIOENERGIA 2012 FINAL REPORT The international construction fair, CONECO, has been held for the 33 rd time now and it provided a place for the presentation of variety of products, innovative solutions and know-how of producers, vendors and investors, designers and architects. The construction fair and the 22 nd international fair of energy efficiency and rationalisation, RACIOENERGIA, were held from March 27-31, During those days, these fair events took place as well: CLIMATHERM, CONECOINVEST, SLOVREALINVEST and the specialised exhibition, CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY. 517 companies from 10 countries, engaged in various branches of construction industry, took the chance to present their products and services at the construction fair. The exhibition area of 50,000 m 2 was occupied. This year, the most complex construction fair has drawn the attention of 98,683 visitors from Slovakia and other countries. The spirit and theme of CONECO/RACIOENERGIA, the joint fair event, reflected the omnipresent motto that was From energy saving to sustainability. The construction industry is the industry branch that is able to influence the number of energy amount consumed by the population of each country. The current trend is to produce low-energy solutions; this stems from the urge to behave considerate towards future generations and ensure sustainable development. Many low-energy products were presented for the first time at this very fair event; the best of them were awarded. The fair was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development and the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic; this is to be considered the guarantee of the fair s high importance and its prestige.

2 Each year the fair has been complemented and enriched by professional accompanying events which increase its professional level; therefore, they have become its essential part. On that account, we would like to thank the following professional partners: ASPEK the Association of Industrial Ecology in Slovakia (Asociácia priemyselnej ekológie na Slovensku), the Slovak Floor Manufacturers Guild (Cech podlahárov Slovenska), the Slovak Roofers Guild (Cech strechárov Slovenska), the Slovak Painters Guild (Cech maliarov Slovenska), the Heating and Thermal Technology Guild (Cech vykurovania a tepelnej techniky), the National Association of Real Estate Agencies (Národná asociácia realitných kancelárií), the Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (Slovenská inovačná a energetická agentúra), the Slovak Chamber of Architects (Slovenská komora architektov), the Slovak Chamber of Civil Engineers (Slovenská komora stavebných inžinierov), the Slovak Association for Environmental Technology (Slovenská spoločnosť pre techniku prostredia), the Slovak Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (Slovenský zväz pre chladiacu a klimatizačnú techniku), the SLOVENERGOokno association, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology, the Building Testing and Research Institute (Technický a skúšobný ústav stavebný), Eurostav s.r.o. - the publishing house, the Slovak District Heating Association (Teplárenské združenie na Slovensku), the Association for Thermal Insulation of Buildings of the Slovak Republic (Združenie pre zatepľovanie budov SR), the Association for the Support of Residential Building Restoration (Združenie pre podporu obnovy bytových domov), the Slovak Association of Construction Entrepreneurs (Zväz stavebných podnikateľov Slovenska). With its 111 exhibitors, the Czech Republic was repeatedly the most represented foreign exhibitor of the fair. The high number is the result of many factors, the main one being the long-term Czechoslovakian economic cooperation and the trust of Czech producers in the stability and prosperity of the Slovak market. Austria participated officially, too; it was represented by 22 companies.

3 II. CEREMONIAL OPENING The fair was officially opened by the wife of the President of the Slovak Republic, Mrs Silvia Gašparovičová. The opening was enriched by interesting speeches of the following people: Mr Ján Figeľ the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic, Mr Milan Ftáčnik the Mayor of the Bratislava city, Mr Peter Mihók the President of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Zsolt Lukáč the President of the Slovak Association of Construction Entrepreneurs and Mr Kristián Takáč the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. Alexander Rozin, the Managing Director of the Incheba joint-stock company, gave the opening speech. III. 4 This year s motto that is From Efficiency to Sustainability was meant to reflect the need of energy-efficient technologies and the utilization of such components that are environment friendly and ensure sustainability. The five days of the CONECO/RACIOENERGIA fair along with CLIMATHERM, CONECOINVEST, SLOVREALINVEST and CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY, the specialised exhibition, were accompanied by additional events for the professionals as well as the general public; they focused on the same theme as the fair did: energy efficiency. The Energy Efficiency Academy, as one of the headlining events, provided complex and free consultancy by means of presentations, discussions and practical demonstrations. The attention of professionals was attracted by the 19 th international conference called Theory and Construction of Building Works and its topic: Twenty Years of Thermal Insulation in Slovakia and New Requirements. The partner day of the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs brought up a discussion on the state of the Slovak construction industry considering the ongoing economic and debt crisis. The Institute for Monuments and Culture (Institut pro památky a kultury o.p.s.) in cooperation with Incheba Prague presented the specialised fair which is in the stage of preparation, its name being MONUMENTS 2012 regeneration, financing, utilisation (PAMÁTKY 2012). The competitions managed to achieve a great success, especially the Insulating Buildings with Proficiency contest. Future craftsmen demonstrated their skills at the Slovak Student Championship in Roofing Crafts. Free consultancy provided by nearly 20 professional institutions was available for all the visitors at the information and consultancy centre. The professional accompanying events have a significant social aspect and they are an essential part of the fair. They have been attracting the professionals as well as the general public for many years.

7 Not only Slovak, but also foreign media seemed to be really interested in what was happening at the CONECO/RACIOENERGIA fair for the whole time of its duration. 409 journalists were accredited at the press centre. Information about the fair was broadcast during main news programmes of the following television channels: Markíza, JOJ and TA3. On the first day of the fair, three news reports on the fair happening were broadcast live and on-site during the Teleráno TV show of the Markíza channel. Reports about the fair were also regularly broadcast by the following radio stations: Rádio Expres, Rádio Viva, Regina and Slovenský rozhlas (Slovak Radio). The fair was also promoted by means of extra inserts of the dailies: SME, Pravda, Plus 1 deň and Hospodárske noviny. Articles which reported about the fair during its happening were published in the following periodicals: SME, Pravda, Hospodárske noviny, Nový Čas, Plus 1 deň, Šport, Új Szó and on their corresponding Internet servers. The main media partner of the fair was the Zoznam.sk server. VI. MARKET POSITION The largest construction fair held in Slovakia has been a symbol of the beginning of the construction season for more than 30 years now. Thanks to their attributes and qualities, the CONECO and RACIOENERGIA fairs as well as other thematic displays have managed to strengthen their position in the field of construction industry and energy utilisation not only in Slovakia, but also in the frame of the Central Europe this year.

8 VII. EVALUATION OF THE FAIR The fair has been positively received by the exhibitors as well as the visitors; its high attendance number should be the best evidence on this matter. Major positive qualities of the fair as perceived and mentioned by the exhibitors include: high professional level of the fair; high number of exhibitors from Slovakia as well as from other countries, with whom the attending exhibitors had been given a chance to establish business relations and possibilities of concrete cooperation; the total number of exhibitions of small and medium-sized enterprises at the fair is, when compared to the number of large-sized enterprises, more balanced therefore, considering the business impact and influence, the presentation of the small and medium-sized exhibitors is really effective; the fair is attended by professional visitors and the exhibitors are a in a direct contact with the end customers; professional accompanying program.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEXT YEAR S FAIR The CONECO/RACIOENERGIA fair will focus on the most recent issues the next year again, from April 9-13, 2013; it will provide the place for the presentation of innovative trends and solutions in the field of construction industry. We believe it will move up the quality ladder and that there will be more companies from a wide range of potential exhibitors not only from Slovakia but also from other countries joining our event; with all that, it will surely become a dignified beginning and opening of the construction season in Slovakia.
