1 August 2 9, 2016 Galápagos Islands A Place Like No Other Biological Anthropologist and Primatologist Aboard the Santa Cruz II
2 Dear Yale Traveler Create lasting memories for your family this summer in the Galapagos Islands: August 2-9, 2016! This wonderful journey will feature delightful nature walks, exotic birds on beautiful beaches, snorkeling with sea lions, kayaking, child-friendly activities, and fun science lectures. On these legendary islands 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador lies the rich abundance of wildlife that inspired Charles Darwin to formulate his theory of natural selection. Widely considered the world s most important center for the study of evolution, the Galápagos are home to a unique variety of flora and fauna. Among the spectacular geology of these rugged volcanic islands, we ll observe the Giant Galápagos tortoises, flocks of frigate birds and Blue-footed Boobies, Darwin s finches and Galápagos penguins, colonies of marine iguanas and sea lions, along with sea turtles and other fascinating sea life. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a once-in-alifetime opportunity to witness animals found nowhere else on our planet. To introduce myself, I am, an animal behaviorist turned biological anthropologist and primatologist, with an interest in understanding the evolution of mating and social systems. I very much look forward to representing Yale as the lecturer on this fascinating program. Together, in a series of lectures, I will use examples from the islands wildlife to discuss new insights into evolution and extinction. Our home among the islands will be the newly renovated Santa Cruz II, a versatile 235-foot expedition vessel with spacious cabins and 5 decks. A staff of resident naturalists will be on hand to point out particularly unusual wildlife behaviors and characteristics so that you may observe, inquire and react as it unfolds before your eyes. Throughout our voyage, we ll enjoy abundant opportunities for hiking, snorkeling and photography. Yale travelers will have the option of a pre-trip extension to Quito and the Andean Highlands and a post-trip extension to the mysterious citadel of Machu Picchu. The 2015 Galápagos program sold out early so I urge you to send in your reservation today and join me in exploring this extraordinary natural environment. Please visit to register now or call Yale Educational Travel at (203) or edtravel@ yale.edu with any questions. Warm regards from Yale,
