1 MASTERS OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT (MPM) Master of project Management (MPM) aims to prepare and equip graduates with knowledge, skills and competence to the level where they can make a professional contribution to the project management in an organization. Additionally, the programme assists graduates to develop practical skills in the analysis of concepts and practices, and in policy formulation and application, thus enhancing their career opportunities and achieving self-development. AWARD Upon completion and passing all courses and dissertation, a student will be awarded a Master of Project Management degree of the Open University of Tanzania. PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme consists of 6 core course, 2 electives which carry a weight of two unit each except the Research Methodology course with an academic dissertation which carries 6 units to make a total of 22 units to complete the programme. Areas of concentration include Strategic Human Resource Management, Performance and Reward Management, Employment Law and Employee Relations, ICT in Business Studies and International HRM. AWARD Upon completion and passing all courses and dissertation, a student will be awarded a Masters Human Resources Management degree of the Open University of Tanzania. PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme consists of 4 core courses, 2 electives which carry a weight of two units each and Research Methodology course with an academic dissertation which carries 6 units to make a total of 18 units to complete the programme.

4 MASTERS OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATIONS (MBA) Masters of Business Administration aims to prepare and equip graduates with general training in cross-organizational functions of business and specialized training in career oriented management professions such as Marketing, Leadership and Governance, Transport and Logistics, Human Resource Management (HRM), and Finance. AWARD Upon completion and passing all courses and dissertation, a student will be awarded a Masters of Business Administrations (MBA) degree of the Open University of Tanzania. PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme consists of 6 core course, 3 electives which carry a weight of two unit each and Research Methodology course with an academic dissertation which carries 6 units to make a total of 24 units to complete the programme. It also enables students to acquire necessary skills and competence required for pursuing higher degree in business and management (i.e. MBA, MHRM and MPM).

6 AWARD Upon completion and passing all courses and project, a student will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (PGDBS) of the Open University of Tanzania. Graduates who decide to join the MBA/MHRM, programmes of the OUT shall be exempted for the three courses covered in this programmes (i.e. OLG 631, OLG 632 and OLG 635). PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme has a total of ten units, comprising six courses, each of which has a weight of one unit and a project which carries four units. Each student shall be required to undertake all units offered in the programme. 7 MODE OF DELIVERY FOR POSTGRADUATE COURSES All the post graduate courses that is MBA, MPM, MHRM and PGDBS are offered in three modes namely Distance, Evening and Executive mode Distance Mode: This mode follows the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, the mainstay of OUT. The academic year usually starts in October by an orientation week whereby students register themselves courses they would like to study in that year. After registration they will be provided with course outlines and proceed to study the registered courses. In January/February of the following year they will be given Timed Tests (TTs) for the registered subject. Final exams will be held in May/June. Special TTs will be held in May/June before the final exams for those who missed them in Jan/Feb. session and special and supplementary final exams will be held in the following Jan/Feb. session of the next academic year. The Evening Mode: Currently this mode is conducted in Dar-es-Salaam at Kinondoni Regional Centre. It is a full time face to face delivery mode and students attending lectures from to hours, three days per week except for MHRM which is two days per week. After completion of all courses the students will be taken through the research methodology course in a face to face session where they will come up with the research proposal. They will be assigned a supervisor for the dissertation and finalize the research and produce the final dissertation for examination. The Executive Mode: The core unit courses will be conducted in the MBA Executive centers (currently Dar es Salaam Arusha, Mbeya, Mwanza and Zanzibar) while the electives will be done in Dar es Salaam. There will be a two months break between modules. Each course will be covered in five days at the end of which a Timed Test carrying 30% will be administered. The final examinations (70%) for courses completed will be taken on the first two days of the subsequent session. Research Methodology and Dissertation course will be taught immediately after doing the final examinations for the elective courses which will be conducted in the various centers, and students are expected to end up with a research proposal. Students will be assigned a supervisor for the dissertation and finalize the research and produce the final dissertation for examination. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION Maters Programme Admission in masters programme offered by the faculty of business management is open to students with variety of background and interest in either general or specific management function area. However, prospective candidates must have a first or second class honours degree of the Open University of Tanzania, or any other recognized institution. Applicants with recognized professional qualifications e.g. CPA, CPSP, ACCA etc obtained through sitting formal examinations may be considered for admission. Applicants with an Advance Diploma in relevant field of at least upper second class or lower classes with a Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field may also be considered. Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies (PGDBS) The programme is open to candidates with a variety of background. However, prospective candidates must satisfy the following minimum requirements: a) Must have a degree of any classification of the open university of Tanzania or an equivalent degree from other universities or higher learning institutions recognized by OUT s senate, TCU or NACTE.

8 b) Applicants holding unclassified degrees with grades which do not qualify them for direct entry to MBA & MHRM c) Applicants with an advanced diploma recognized by OUT s senate, TCU or NACTE may also be considered. d) Applicants enrolled for professional examinations e.g. CPA of the NBAA and CPSP of the PSPTB will be considered provided that at the time they lodge their applications they will have already attained Module D of the CPA or Professional stage III of the CPSP, through sitting formal examinations, and they have, in addition, a pass with at least one principal in ACSE Examination (A-level).
