3 Hummert Greenhouse Short Course Speakers Ryan Barker, Community Educator, Gateway Greening - Responsible for outreach and teaching. Visits gardeners, propagates, and works with volunteers. Received a BS from Missouri State Univ. and a MLA from Univ. of Minnesota. Experience includes outdoor educator, civil servant, and ethanol researcher, Ecuadorian forester, and youth garden educator. Tom Goeke, owner & grower, Hermans Farm Orchard - Tom is Hummert s 2012 Innovator of the Year for his cutting edge tomato grafting research and commitment to agriculture education. Steve Eigsti, Youth Programs Coordinator, Gateway Greenning - Coordinates STL school garden program. Provides technical support, creates garden-based curriculum, and advises St. Louis public schools, child care providers, and other community organizations. Grew up on an IL farm and spent summers detasseling corn & picking strawberries. Received a BS in History Education from Goshen College. Taught 7th grade social studies. Dr. Sven Svenson, Assistant Professor, Southeast Missouri State University - Previously he was at Oregon State Univ. Research Station in Willamette and at the Univ. of Florida. Pete Hummert, Vice President of Finance, Hummert International - Pete manages the Greenhouse Sales & Design Department. He has a B.S. in Horticulture from the University of Missouri and has more than 25 years of horticulture experience, particularly greenhouse design & construction. Pete works closely with schools and FFA chapters. Dr. Steve Millett, Technical Advisor, Hummert International - Steve has more than twenty years experience in horticulture. He has a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin; a M.S. from Clemson University; and a B.S. from Truman State University. Steve has been a professor, NSF visiting scientist, gypsy moth program coordinator, turfgrass fertility scientist, greens keeper, garden center manager, and author. Patrick Steppuhn, Regional Sales Representative, Hummert International - Patrick s territory includes IL, MO, & KY. He has more than 30 years experience in horticulture and has grown more than one million poinsettias and countless other ornamental plants working with the biggest companies in horticulture. He is a Vietnam Veteran. Cathy Webb, Plants & Cuttings, Hummert International - Cathy is Hummert International s Plants & Cuttings expert. She has exceptional depth and range in horticulture experience. Cliff Hoogland, General Manager, Phytotronics - Cliff has an Associate s degree in Horticulture from STLCC at Meramec and is currently a business management student at St. Louis Community College. Cliff was the horticulturalist at the St. Louis Zoo for seven years. Before coming to Phytotronics, he was a crew leader for a leading landscape company in St. Louis. Keith Templin, Turf & Irrigation Sales Specialist, Hummert International - Keith has more than 15 years of experience in the turf industry. He was an assistant superintendent in KC, NY, and STL. He is a Mizzou graduate with an emphasis in Landscape Design and Turf Management. Keith also coaches high school lacrosse. Darel Thies, David Thies of Thies Farm & Greenhouses - Thies Farm and Greenhouses is a fifth generation farm that has been in business at the same St. Louis location since Homegrown produce is handpicked everyday and delivered to farmers markets throughout the St. Louis area. Megan Lavy, Sales Representative Megan has a BS is AG Education from the University of Missouri. 10 years experience in the greenhouse and floral industry.
