2 PA Hybrid Learning Institute The PA Hybrid Learning Institute (PA HLI) was formed in 2011 as a partnership between six PA Intermediate Units, Dellicker Strategies, Education Elements and Harrisburg University. In the fall of 2012, PA HLI helped 15 schools launch the first hybrid learning pilot programs in Pennsylvania. The overall effort encompassed 1,911 students and 48 teachers across eight counties.

11 Spring City: Our Story From the Beginning At the onset, we believed that Hybrid Learning = Technology But quickly realized that Hybrid Learning Technology. Hybrid Learning = Instruction Instruction & Technology Intersection Instruction is the cornerstone of the Hybrid model Technology is the tool/conduit to the Instructional Program Technology fosters student engagement in the instruction Engaged Students + Staff Instructional Expertise + Digital Content = Individualized Instruction & Individualized Learning
12 Evaluating and Choosing Digital Content Instruction as our Foundation Exploration of Content began Digital Content Options were provided. RUBRIC INCLUDES: General Curriculum Assessment Reporting Technology Implementation Professional Development Grade level, subject areas and named courses Scope & sequence, alignment to standards, curriculum development approach, lesson type and content pathways Alignment to curriculum and standards, flexibility in assignment and creation, and scoring Configurability, delivery format, and frequency Delivery of content, single sign-on, provisioning and reporting Hardware set-up, bandwidth requirements, and initial student load/registration Requirements, recommendations and online resources available to support the school Digital Content was vetted by all stakeholders (including teachers)
13 Three Models Rotation: Lab Rotation: Classroom Flex Student groups rotate between traditional classroom instruction and online instruction in a computer or learning lab. Lab monitored by an instructional aide rather than certified teacher. Student groups rotate between traditional classroom instruction and online instruction within the classroom. Classroom overseen by certified teachers, apprentice teachers, and instructional aides. Students learn primarily online in a brick and mortar school location. Teachers act as facilitators.

17 Spring City Accomplishments Implemented consistent and dynamic classroom environments throughout the building Students modeled increased independence and selfdirection in the three learning stations. Teachers and Staff (including LTS s) received hybrid learning training from MCIU Teachers engaged with MCIU Instructional Coach assisting with program fidelity, classroom management, & resource development. Successfully launched hybrid learning, including integration of Computers, Smart Boards, ipads, and Apple TV s into their classrooms

20 Spring City Accomplishments Hosted several site visits for local dignitaries and other PA HLI schools, as well as a virtual event for new PA HLI schools The Spring-Ford team attended multiple PA HLI networking events from September 2011through present day Spring-Ford Area School District conducted a hands-on rollout of the Hybrid Learning Institute to their students, teachers, and community members Received monthly Hybrid Learning Reports including an Executive Summary, Tracking Content Level Data, and Recommended Modifications

22 State Funding Support In 2012, MCIU received $256,996 in state funding to support three pilot school implementations. In 2013, MCIU received $50,750 to support the planning and assessment phase of the project for three new schools. In 2013, MCIU received an additional $75000 in state funding to support existing and new implementations for the school year.
