3 Focusing on the Community Founded in 1970, LFCC serves more than 9500 credit students and more than 10,700 individuals and 1200 employers in professional development and business and industry courses annually. The College serves the City of Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Warren. 6 Focusing on Transfer Lord Fairfax Community College has a number of agreements that pave the way for a smooth transition from LFCC to a four-year college or university. Many of these agreements also offer Guaranteed Admission to students who achieve the required GPA and who meet specific requirements. LFCC maintains a Transfer Guide at lfcc.edu/transfer which assists our students in creating a transfer plan. As an added bonus, thanks to the Virginia Transfer Grant, in-state students who attend LFCC or another Virginia community college have an opportunity to receive up to $2,000 annually for three years (or 70 credit hours) upon transferring to a four-year institution. The grant provides $1,000 for all eligible students, with an extra $1,000 for students who pursue undergraduate work in engineering, math, technology, teaching or science. Transfer Agreements LFCC has agreements with over 40 four-year colleges and universities. These agreements address eligibility requirements and criteria under which a student may not be eligible. 7 Academic Center for Excellence The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) is a one-stop shop for auxiliary learning and is located on the Middletown Campus. Some services are provided online and at the Fauquier Campus. ACE offers tutoring, TRIO Student Support Services program, academic success workshops, peer coaching and more. For more information, visit lfcc.edu/ace or contact TRIO Student Support Services TRIO Student Support Services is a grant program funded through the U.S. Department of Education which provides a wide spectrum of services to eligible students currently enrolled on the Middletown Campus. Services include personalized academic advising, transfer assistance, financial literacy education, financial aid and scholarship application assistance, career advising and academic skill building. The overriding goal of the TRIO program is to provide the support that will enable each participant to continue enrollment in courses and pursue a program of student that culminates in graduation. The transition from high school/working world to college can be especially challenging for foster youth. Great Expectations provides support with navigating the college process. Great Expectations focuses on the value of a college education as the best way to prepare for a career pathway and achieve independence. Who is eligible? Individuals ages who are affiliated with the Virginia Foster Care system or were a special needs adoption. Individuals who have aged out of foster care at age 18 up to age 24. Those previously in foster care after ages 13+ who returned home or to a relative. Those who at the time of adoption from VDSS, were determined as having special needs (developmental delay, sibling group, black/biracial or over age 13). Veteran Affairs Lord Fairfax Community College is proud to serve veterans and their families, and works to go above and beyond to ensure that their academic needs are met. Affordable tuition and non-credit and credit courses make LFCC a welcoming institution. 8 2013 Cardinal Division Champions Focusing on Student Involvement The Student Life Office oversees the first year experience initiatives, student activities and athletics, college outreach, student conduct and information services. For more information on any of these topics, contact Student Activities Being involved in student activities is vital part of the college experience. The main goal of student activities is to provide students with programming that exposes them to various cultures, ideas, issues and experiences. Many opportunities are provided for students to get involved in interest clubs, leadership, student government, performing arts, community service and much more. For details on all student activity events visit lfcc.edu/focus. Athletics LFCC s athletics programs compete locally, regionally and nationally. Both Women s and Men s Soccer teams are members of Region I of the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA. The Women s and Men s Rugby teams are members of the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO). 9 Focusing on Affordability Tuition Current tuition rates can be viewed at lfcc.edu/tuition. Financial Aid The Financial Aid Office is committed to providing the opportunity for all students to obtain a post-secondary education, regardless of their financial status. To meet this commitment, the College offers a variety of financial assistance programs for all students who qualify. Comprehensive financial aid information, including submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), is available in the Financial Aid Office and at lfcc.edu/finaid. Scholarships More than 100 scholarships are offered to students to help cover the costs of tuition, fees and textbooks (if applicable). Scholarships are awarded each year to students meeting the specific criteria for each scholarship. To learn more, visit lfcc.edu/scholarships. Grants Federal and state grants are available for eligible students for tuition, fees and textbooks. If courses are successfully completed the funds do not need to repaid. Apply for grants at lfcc.edu/finaid. Loans Federal loans are available for eligible students and can be used to help defray the cost of college. Loans are borrowed money and are required to be repaid to the federal government. Apply for loans at lfcc.edu/directloans. Payment Plan Lord Fairfax Community College is pleased to provide the Nelnet Business Solutions tuition payment plan (FACTS) to meet students educational expenses. The FACTS plan is a tuition payment plan that allows students to pay tuition in monthly installments. It s easy and interest free. The earlier students enroll in the plan, the more payment options they have. For more information visit lfcc.edu/paymentplan. Third Party Public institutions of higher education may enter into special arrangement contracts with Virginia employers or authorities controlling federal installations or agencies located in Virginia. The special arrangement contracts shall be for the purpose of providing reduced rate tuition charges for the employees of the Virginia employers or federal personnel when the employers or federal authorities are assuming the liability for paying, to the extent permitted by federal law, the tuition for the employees or personnel in question and the employees or personnel are classified by the requirements of this section as out-of-state.
