Indeed, energy is likely to be the most important game changer for global growth in the next few decades, and will pose one of the highest levels of uncertainty and risk for businesses, governments, and even consumers. In this introductory keynote, Bart van Ark, The Conference Board s EVP and Chief Economist, will rely on the organization s research program on global growth, productivity, innovation, sustainability and human capital to outline key trends that will help frame the topics of this conference. He ll address such key questions as: What are the major recent and future challenges and opportunities in the global energy landscape? How will global demand for energy evolve, and how is it being affected by demographic, economic and technical factors? What are the main changes on the supply side of the global energy market? Where and how does clean innovation fit in? Which scenarios for ROI on clean innovation may evolve following the Paris 2015 Climate Conference? Bart van Ark, Executive Vice President and Chief Economist, The Conference Board General Session A 9:45 10:45 am Expanding Solar to the Mainstream One of the biggest challenges for the solar industry has been reaching a more mainstream audience. Now, a number of new marketing initiatives and trends in the solar industry are substantially changing the image of solar, and enabling solar products and services to make greater inroads with mainstream audiences. Such initiatives and trends as the increased marketing of solar via big box retailers, the rise of personal solar and the on demand economy, offers of triple play solar packages, and recent cross marketing agreements solar developers have established with companies well established in the broader consumer market have opened up key new marketing channels and opportunities for solar. This session will discuss how these marketing efforts and trends are being leveraged to drive broader consumer acceptance of solar. Michael Mullen, Regional Sales Vice President, Solar City Norrie McKenzie, Vice President of Renewable Development, Georgia Power Suzanne Shelton, CEO, Shelton Group Networking and Refreshment Break 10:45 11:00 am General Session B 11:00 am 12:00 pm Hybrid Energy s Increasing Allure: New Opportunities and Strategies for Combining Renewable and Fossil Fuel Energy Sources Many clean energy sources have often been viewed as directly competitive with other clean energy sources. This session is designed to assess which financing mechanisms work best for particular clean energy ventures, forms, and projects, and which of those mechanisms will have the greatest impact in the near term. Eli Hinckley, Partner, Sullivan & Worcester Nick Gogerty, Partner, Thoughtful Capital Group Jon Norling, General Counsel, Gridshare, LLC; Of Counsel, Cleantech Law Partners General Session D 2:00 2:45 pm Converging Forces: The Sharing Economy and The concept of shared solar and renewable energy services isn t new, but the potential market for such shared services has expanded considerably, as the shared services market booms and new community solar and wind and EV car sharing services take root. This session will examine the most promising opportunities arising from the nexus of the sharing economy and clean energy. Amit Rosner, CEO, Yeloha Marco Viviani, Director of Development and Public Relations, Communauto Networking and Refreshment Break 2:45 3:00 pm General Session E 3:00 3:30 pm Streamlining Product Acquisition with Collaborative Energy Procurement Clean energy procurement can often be a cumbersome and expensive process for corporate customers. Collaborative energy procurement has emerged as a highly efficient model for
3 streamlining the purchasing process for clean energy products for those customers, reducing the costs of those products, and providing greater access to those products. This session will examine various collaborative procurement systems and platforms that are delivering major benefits and cost reductions for corporate customers in clean energy purchases. Rob Threlkeld, Global Manager Renewable Energy, General Motors General Session F 3:30 4:00 pm Targeting High Value Audiences in with Big Data and Intelligent Analytics Many conventional customer acquisition processes in such areas as solar have too often been inefficient, costly, and wasteful. Big data and intelligent analytics offer clean energy marketers powerful tools for targeting high value prospects and reducing their customer acquisition costs significantly. This session will illustrate how these tools are revolutionizing the customer acquisition process for solar and other clean energy markets. Pasi Miettinen, CEO, Sagewell, Inc. General Session G 4:00 5:00 pm Tapping into Next Generation Energy Storage Energy storage has been touted as the holy grail of clean energy, but significant questions remain about some of its technical limitations and costs, and about the viability of many business models for energy storage. This session will examine how hybrid and virtual energy storage approaches, and such business models as energy storage as a service and shared savings financing models are well positioned to overcome these limitations, and boost the prospects for and efficiency of energy storage. Results from recent tests of home energy storage systems will also be discussed. Josh London, VP, Management, Glenwood Management Dan Gabaldon, Founding Partner, Enovation Partners Stephen Prince, Chief Revenue Officer, Younicos Networking Cocktail Reception 5:00 6:15 pm Agenda Day 2: Wednesday, April 6, 2016 Registration and Continental Breakfast 8:00 9:00 am General Session H 9:00 9:30 am Transforming Hotel Brands and Operations through Sustainable Innovations Clean energy and sustainability can serve as a powerful tool for transforming all operations of hospitality companies, and expanding the brand image of those companies, as this presentation by Andrea Pinabell, VP of Sustainability and Global Citizenship at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, will demonstrate. She will discuss how Starwood has devised multifaceted sustainable innovation strategies that are applied to a wide range of hotel functions and brands, drive long term growth, and help foster more enduring customer and community relationships. She ll devote particular attention to the company s Hotel of the Future project, which takes a broad approach to incorporating sustainability and resilience in its business strategy. Andrea Pinabell, VP, Sustainability and Global Citizenship, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. General Session I 9:30 10:00 am Powering Up the Internet of Energy and Digital Energy Networks The Internet of Things is dramatically transforming the reliability, efficiency, and use of smart grids and clean energy, and significantly reducing energy costs, spawning, in effect, the Internet of Energy. New digital energy networks are enabling greater energy efficiency for and better maintenance of the grid through the use of smart controllers, digital meters, wireless sensors, and other devices. This session will examine the key role digital energy networks are playing in more efficiently monitoring and controlling power supply and ultimately changing the dynamics of clean energy distribution. Dr. Lawrence Jones, VP, International Programs, Edison Electric Institute. Networking and Refreshment Break 10:00 10:15 am General Session J 10:15 11:00 am Maximizing Customer Engagement in through Social Media, Digital Media, and Gamification Social media, digital media, and gamification have emerged as some of the most potent marketing, promotional, and customer engagement tools for clean energy. Through strong viral marketing, informative blogs, and user-generated content, a growing number of social media efforts in clean energy have proven particularly effective in attracting new audiences to clean energy and driving home its benefits. Social media and gamification have fostered greater customer engagement in clean energy and demonstrated a capability to offer rewards and gather valuable customer data in clean energy more efficiently. The use of digital media in clean energy has even extended to the development of interactive exhibits in museums by energy suppliers to better educate the public about the nature and value of solar and other renewable energy sources. This session will examine the most effective ways of harnessing those tools to capture new audiences and retain existing ones, as well as elicit key insights about audience use of and attitudes towards clean energy. Moderator: Michael Mascioni, Program Director, 2016 Innovation Seminar Jake Rozmaryn, CEO, Eco Branding Vikram Aggarwal, CEO, EnergySage
4 General Session K 11:00 11:30 am Hybrid Energy s Increasing Allure: New Opportunities and Strategies for Combining Renewable and Fossil Fuel Energy Sources (Part II) Clean renewable power and fossil fuels have often been viewed as incompatible energy sources, but a growing market has developed for blending such renewable energy sources as solar, wind and hydro with fossil fuel sources as natural gas and diesel. The application of these hybrid energy forms has typically led to significant cost and carbon emission reductions as well as an increase in overall transmission system reliability. In this presentation, Curt Hildebrand of Western Energy Partners will discuss how his company is planning to construct a new power generation facility combining natural gas and solar at the Clean Path Energy Center in San Juan County, New Mexico to enhance and revitalize the delivery of reliable energy resources in that area utilizing the existing natural gas and electricity infrastructure. Curt Hildebrand, President, Western Energy Partners, LLC General Session L 11:30 am 12:00 pm Space Based Solar: The Next Big Solar Frontier? Perhaps one of the most intriguing new frontiers for solar is space based solar. Space based solar s vast potential for serving as a major energy source has been touted for some time, given its ability to collect a much greater percentage of solar energy from space without obstruction from gases, clouds, and other elements. Its considerable environmental benefits have also been highlighted. But the prohibitive cost of deploying and maintaining space based solar systems and structures has been a major stumbling block. Now, there are indications that some new space based solar initiatives may significantly increase the economic viability of space based solar in the near future. This session examines key potential opportunities and challenges for space based solar in the next decade. Dr. Sergio Pellegrino, Joyce & Kent Kresa Professor of Aeronautics, California Institute of Technology Chairman s Concluding Remarks 12:00 12:15 pm
