Solutions for Power Industry Summary Wonderware Finland solutions for alarm management in power industry extend the Wonderware System with new functions, features and capabilities. Improved handling of alarms and events greatly increases the performance, capabilities and reliability of data processing in power and energy applications. Business Value The ready set of products enables faster, more reliable and better performance alarm/event processing for power industry applications running in Wonderware System Platform environment. There are software tools offered for: /event configuration, filtering and archiving Avoiding alarm loss in time critical applications Secure remote transfer of alarm/event data Integration with external alarm systems Wonderware Finland solutions for alarm management in power industry New solutions extend Wonderware System with more functionality Wonderware Finland solutions for alarm management in power industry are built to extend the today existing Wonderware standard alarm functionality with new features, still using the standard Wonderware System. New features include advanced alarm filtering, accurate alarm timestamps from field devices (PLCs), no loss of short time and fluctuating alarms, support for mimic alarms, possibilities to use and modify the user defined fields and event priority fields, logging and archiving alarms/events to different data bases, reduction of alarms, integration with other alarm engine software (UReason), and many other. The Wonderware Modules for Power Industry supplied by Wonderware Finland, are developed together with the leading global power/energy companies to meet the functional requirements in power industry. The Wonderware Modules for Power Industry complete Wonderware standard software to make it more optimal for power/energy applications.
Gateway Target of the product: Extend the Wonderware standard alarm functionality with new features, still using the standard Wonderware System, by providing the highly flexible configurable alarm/event gateway solution for Wonderware System Plaform environment. Main benefits reached with the product: Avoids alarm loss and duplicated alarms in high loaded systems, enables the filtering of alarms/events, suports the alarm/event custom attributes and customized event priorities, supports mimic alarm windows and connection to UReason Management system. Typical applications: Large power generation and other systems where customized processing of alarms/events is required. The Gateway Object ( Gateway) is a basic component of Wonderware Finland Extension Pack Standard Edition and provides functionality to create separate configurable Provider for alarms coming from Wonderware Application Server and/or other Providers compatible with Wonderware System. In case included in Wonderware Finland Extension Pack UReason Edition, the Gateway Object provides also the functionality to send/receive alarms to/from Wonderware alarming system from/to UReason Management system. The Gateway Object is developed by using Wonderware Distributed Toolkit. The general schema of Gateway is following: Gateway Providers: Application Server InTouch Other Consumer Provider Consumers ( Control, InTouch ViewerCtrl, other) Gateway application examples Using Gateway to avoid alarm loss in high loaded systems Wonderware Application Server historical alarms and events are stored in a circular buffer, where the oldest entries are discarded to make the space for new ones, so in case there are generated a lot of events then important alarms can be lost. By using the Gateway, it is possible to store all important alarms in separate. Gateway buffer - that can be done by querying alarms/events only with priorities e.g. from 1 to 998. Gateway avoids alarm loss in high loaded systems, by using own alarm buffer and filtering Event Priorities: Gateway alarm buffer can contain about alarms. The total number of stored alarms depends on size of alarms: Functions for filtering, custom properties, mimic alarms, etc. Buffer Object Area Gateway AlmBuf Standard Engine Platform 1 AlmBuf Buffer Using Gateway to change the event priority Wonderware Application Server alarming system does not provide the possibility to configure event priority - all events have built-in priority 999. By using the Gateway, it is possible to change the event priority by using the setpriority custom attribute.
DB Logger Target of the product: Enable the storing of alarms/events coming from Wonderware Providers (Application Server, InTouch) to separate SQL. Main benefits reached with the product: Several DB Logger Objects can run on same computer, so needed functionality is provided for applications where it is necessary to distribute alarms/events to several s on same computer - as standard Wonderware DBLogger does not support such possibility. Typical applications: Large power generation and other systems where customized processing of alarms/events is required. The DB Logger Object ( DB Logger) is a component of Wonderware Finland Extension Pack and provides functionality to store alarms/events into SQL for alarms/events coming from Wonderware Application Server and/or other Providers compatible with Wonderware System. The DB Logger Object is developed by using Wonderware Distributed Toolkit. The general schema of DB Logger is following: DB Logger Providers: Application Server InTouch Other Consumer SQL SQL Server Wonderware alarm/event Custom
DB Converter Target of the product: Provide the functionality of customizable converting of Wonderware or custom alarm/event s to unlimited size external lifetime storage s. Main benefits reached with the product: The limited storage alarm/event data can be archived to external archiving stations, by bypassing firewalls and satisfying external lifetime data storage requirements. Typical applications: Large power generation and other systems where customized processing of alarms/events is required. The DB Converter Object ( DB Converter) is a component of Wonderware Finland Extension Pack and can be used for archiving alarms and events to external archiving stations. The source and destination s can be Wonderware standard alarm/event s or custom SQL s used for alarm/event storage. The general schema of DB Converter is following: DB Converter SQL Server Wonderware alarm/event Custom SQL SQL SQL Server Wonderware alarm/event Custom Example of using DB Converter in large power generation application The target is to enable long-term lifetime storage (for several years) of alarms/events generated by power generation equipment. The power generation equipment is divided in several groups and all generated alarms/events are received in Wonderware InTouch applications, acting as Providers of initial alarm/event data for the rest of system. s/events at first are filtered and then temporarily stored in custom alarm by DB Converter before being pushed by specially developed Archiver Object through a firewall to the final destination in the archiving station, where alarm/event data are stored for lifetime. The data in the final storage are split into several s to increase the performance and keep the optimal size of s. As well special.net application is developed for accessing the external archiving station s. Such approach allows to solve possible Wonderware System capacity problems and store very huge volumes of alarm/event information: Power generation equipment Wonderware InTouch ( Provider) 1 Wonderware InTouch ( Provider) 2 Wonderware InTouch ( Provider) 3 PROCESSING DB Converter 1 Achiver 1 DB Converter 2 Achiver 2 DB Converter 3 DB1 DB2 DB3 Achiver 3 Intermediate storage, e.g. ONE MONTH Firewall ARCHIVING DB DB DB DB DB DB Final LONGTERM storage
CL Server Target of the product: Getting the alarm/event time stamping data from PLCs, to avoid possible loss of short time and fluctuating alarms. Main benefits reached with the product: Exact till milliseconds PLC alarm time stamps are delivered to Wonderware SuiteLink/DDE s (e.g. InTouch), no loss of short time alarms. Typical applications: Time critical systems where very large amount of alarms are generated in short time intervals. PC SuiteLink/DDE (InTouch) CL Server/ application Wonderware s own made DAServer(s) or Klinkmann s Omron Ethernet Direct DAServer SuiteLink/DDE interface SuiteLink/DDE Server & OPC OPC interface Ethernet Rockwell Logix Siemens Simatic Omron CS1 The CL Server/ application (CL Server, Composite Layer Server/) is used for getting alarm/event time stamping data from PLCs, disabling possible loss of short time and fluctuating alarms and buffering the alarm/ event data. The following Plcs are supported: Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley Control Logix, Modicon Quantum and Omron CS1. The CLServer correspondingly uses Wonderware SIDirect DAServer (DASSIDIRECT), Wonderware ABCIP DAServer (DASABCIP), Wonderware MBTCP DAServer (DASMBTCP) or Klinkmann Automation Omron Ethernet Direct DAServer(DASOmronEth) for communication with these PLCs: To use the CL Server/, the appropriate additions/modifications must be done in controller program from where the alarm/event time stamping data is coming. The CL Server/ delivery package includes the program examples for Siemens S7-300, Allen-Bradley Logix5555 and Omron CS1 PLCs. The CL Server/ application consists of two main parts: OPC part, for connection to appropriate DAServer via OPC interface; SuiteLink/DDE Server part, providing data for SuiteLink/DDE s, e.g. Wonderware InTouch. From SuiteLink/DDE (e.g. InTouch) point of view, the accessing to CL Server/ is completely same as accessing to corresponding DAServer, i.e. same topic names and I/O point naming syntax is used, the only difference is the Server application name is CLServer. For CL Server/ SuiteLink/DDE Server part, the alarm bit I/O item names have the exactly same syntax as corresponding DAServer bit item names. For example, when accessing the S7-300 PLC via CLServer and DASSIDIRECT, the alarm bit item DB123X4.5 specifies the bit 5 in byte with address 4 in DB123.
SDTCP Server and SDOPC Server Target of the product: Provide the manageable, configurable and secure alarm/event data transfer between Wonderware InTouch and 3rd party remote OPC clients. Main benefits reached with the product: Secure and configurable remote data transfer between Wonderware InTouch and OPC clients. Typical applications: Power generation and other systems where secure and customized communication between Wonderware InTouch and OPC clients is required. The SDTCP Server (Secure Data TCP Server) and SDOPC Server (Secure Data OPC Server) are software products for providing manageable, configurable and secure alarm/event data transfer between Wonderware InTouch and 3rd party remote OPC clients over the internet or intranet via TCP/IP connection. Any single TCP port can be used for communication, so allowing freely configurable access through firewalls. The 3rd party OPC can access only to limited part of InTouch tagname, these accessible InTouch tags and their access rights are configured for each remote client at InTouch side: InTouch tagname 3rd Party OPC 1 3rd Party OPC 2 3rd Party OPC N PtAcc access module TCP Server Configuration files SDTCP Server OPCServer for 3rd Party OPC s TCP Firewall SDOPC Server SDOPC Server 2 SDOPC Server N Ordering information Description order Number Gateway PR DB Logger PR DB Converter PR CL Server/ application DR SDTCP Server and SDOPC Server DR Helsinki tel automation@klinkmann.fi Wonderware_Finland_solutions_for_alarm_management_in_power_industry_en_0413 St. Petersburg tel Moscow tel Yekaterinburg tel Samara tel Кiev tel info@wonderware.com.ua Rīga tel info@wonderware.lv Vilnius tel info@wonderware.lt Tallinn tel info@wonderware.ee Мinsk tel info@wonderware.by
