4 SCMP DESIGNATION PROGRAM Balanced to deliver advanced supply chain management knowledge and high-level business skills, the SCMP program is competency-based and designed so learning can be applied immediately in the workplace. Comprehensive, challenging, and current: the SCMP designation program s focus on meeting the evolving needs of the marketplace is what sets it apart from other supply chain management programs. Note: Previous post-secondary courses may be eligible for advanced standing in the SCMP designation program. Please see the SCMA Education Handbook for further information. Who: Those seeking to launch or accelerate their career in supply chain and who work or intend to work at a management or executive level. Delivery: Modules are in-class, self-study or online; workshops are in-class. In-Residence Week is a week-long live-in study program. Admission requirement: Business degree or diploma or equivalent courses, or a minimum of 10 years related work experience with a minimum of five of those years at a supervisory level or above. SCMP candidates must also be members of the association. Length: Designed to be completed in 36 to 60 months. WHY BECOME AN SCMP? IMPACT SCMPs are seen as the pre-eminent authority in supply chain management. They are the strategic leaders and decision-makers. ADVANCEMENT When hiring for positions in supply chain management, employers regularly ask for the SCMP or enrolment in the SCMP program. EARNING POWER Those with the SCMP earn on average 13 per cent or more annually than their counterparts without the designation.* GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE With supply chains that reach around the world, an SCMP is a key contributor to the competitiveness and success of any enterprise, anywhere. As a category manager you have to understand the company s needs, the community desires, as well as the market (suppliers, economy, etc.). The aspect I enjoy the most is that I am constantly learning about the market from suppliers and internal stakeholders. Interacting with different groups and gaining awareness of how your commodity can affect all of them is fascinating. Without my designation I would not have the career with Potash that I have.
