1 Supply Chain Management An exceptional career opportunity CLoth from the UK. Buttons from china. In India Next Week. WE CAN DO THAT.

2 Looking for a satisfying career that is challenging, progressive, diverse, fast-paced and financially rewarding? Joining Canada s supply chain gives you a chance to grow in an industry that s constantly evolving. With literally hundreds of career paths to follow, working in supply chain provides opportunities in every field, in both the private and public sector. From professional sports, energy production and the military, to health care, emergency services and aviation, there is an exciting and demanding supply chain role in virtually any area that interests you. Whether it s sourcing materials, managing vendors, or the warehousing and distribution of products, more than three-quarters of a million Canadians already work in supply chain roles for private companies, governments, charities and other organizations. Annually, 65,000 supply chain management recruits will be needed for new or vacant jobs.* What are you waiting for? Your supply chain career can begin today. WHAT IS THE SUPPLY CHAIN? Not sure what the supply chain is? While many careers in the sector have existed for decades or more, the term supply chain management is relatively new. We define supply chain management as: Strategic management of the flow of goods, services, finance and information, along with relationships within and among organizations, to support and achieve an organization s objectives. Strategic collaboration within and among organizations in a supply chain helps reduce costs, minimize inventory, enhance flexibility and improve a product s time to market. BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP SCMA members: Are recognized by employers as top candidates for supply chain positions Earn an average 2% salary premium over their non-member counterparts Enjoy special pricing on high-quality supply chain training and continuous professional development programs, including the SCMP designation program Can take advantage of unparalleled networking events and opportunities Have access to helpful business tools and templates, cutting-edge research and tailored career resources Receive valuable discounts on products and services for themselves and their organizations Are eligible for volunteer leadership opportunities and professional recognition The SCMP designation is the most sought-after achievement in supply chain management in Canada and sets the national standard for excellence in the profession. A comprehensive certification program and continuous professional development requirement certifies that the SCMP has attained the highest level of competency and remains current in practice. Adherence to SCMA s Code of Ethics also ensures the highest level of integrity. Employers benefit from the SCMP s unique and distinctive competence. SCMPs are recognized as strategic supply chain management professionals who provide enterprises with the innovative leadership necessary to achieve a competitive edge in a global marketplace. Program has achieved the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management s (IFPSM) Global Standard in Purchasing and Supply and is accredited by the Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council (CSCSC). Global Standard for Professional Competence in Purchasing and Supply administered by IFPSM TM * Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council, 2012 HR Study Update

3 Critical, strategic and dynamic Globalization, sustainability and information management are just a few of the many issues businesses wrestle with today, all of which are heavily impacted by supply chain decisions. In this dynamic environment, improving supply chain performance has become essential for companies to remain successful. It s a growing trend that will only intensify. contribution to the economy The supply chain management profession makes a significant contribution to Canada s economy. Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) members control more than $130 billion in annual spend and move hundreds of billions more in products and services throughout Canada and the world. CAREERS IN THE PROFESSION Supply chain management offers rewarding career opportunities in almost every field imaginable. Any organization that creates, purchases, ships or distributes products or services to other organizations or the public is part of an interconnected supply chain. SCM professionals occupy influential positions across organizations, in roles that include senior management, consulting, procurement, operations, logistics, transportation and trade. The standard of living we all enjoy can be directly linked to the practice of strategic supply chain management, which also influences the social and economic success of citizens worldwide. As the impact of strategic supply chain management has increased in recognition, these positions now demand professionals who are both supply chain specialists and strategic business managers. VISIBILITY IN THE C-SUITE Supply chains have evolved to become strategic sources of competitive advantage, helping organizations deliver significant and real value to customers and enhancing SUPPLY MANAGEMENT TRAINING Today s global market demands skilled practitioners to support the management of complex supply chains. SCMA s Supply Management Training (SMT) program meets this need with a series of tactical courses and seminars designed to provide a solid skills base. The SMT program will equip entry- to mid-level practitioners with the necessary skills to support supply chain functions, and the related business skills to help advance their careers. Take them individually or complete them all to earn a Diploma/Certificate in Supply Management. Program accredited by the Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council (CSCSC). shareholder profit. They are no longer solely the domain of buyers and suppliers; supply chains are now discussed in boardrooms and corner offices. Who: Entry- to mid-level practitioners Admission requirement: No prerequisites Delivery: Courses are in-class, self-study or online; workshops and seminars are in-class Length: Usually two years to complete the full package Note: Supply Management Training is distinct from the Supply Chain Management Professional designation program, although successful completion of some courses may be applied towards the SCMP designation program. Previous post-secondary courses may be eligible for advanced standing in the SMT program. Please see the SCMA Education Handbook for further information.

4 SCMP DESIGNATION PROGRAM Balanced to deliver advanced supply chain management knowledge and high-level business skills, the SCMP program is competency-based and designed so learning can be applied immediately in the workplace. Comprehensive, challenging, and current: the SCMP designation program s focus on meeting the evolving needs of the marketplace is what sets it apart from other supply chain management programs. Note: Previous post-secondary courses may be eligible for advanced standing in the SCMP designation program. Please see the SCMA Education Handbook for further information. Who: Those seeking to launch or accelerate their career in supply chain and who work or intend to work at a management or executive level. Delivery: Modules are in-class, self-study or online; workshops are in-class. In-Residence Week is a week-long live-in study program. Admission requirement: Business degree or diploma or equivalent courses, or a minimum of 10 years related work experience with a minimum of five of those years at a supervisory level or above. SCMP candidates must also be members of the association. Length: Designed to be completed in 36 to 60 months. WHY BECOME AN SCMP? IMPACT SCMPs are seen as the pre-eminent authority in supply chain management. They are the strategic leaders and decision-makers. ADVANCEMENT When hiring for positions in supply chain management, employers regularly ask for the SCMP or enrolment in the SCMP program. EARNING POWER Those with the SCMP earn on average 13 per cent or more annually than their counterparts without the designation.* GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE With supply chains that reach around the world, an SCMP is a key contributor to the competitiveness and success of any enterprise, anywhere. The SCMP designation also has reciprocity with the CPSM in the U.S. and with the MCIPS in the UK, as well as having achieved IFPSM s international standard. SATISFACTION After completing a rigorous program, SCMPs achieve supply chain management s most respected credential and are easily able to differentiate themselves from others in the field. As a category manager you have to understand the company s needs, the community desires, as well as the market (suppliers, economy, etc.). The aspect I enjoy the most is that I am constantly learning about the market from suppliers and internal stakeholders. Interacting with different groups and gaining awareness of how your commodity can affect all of them is fascinating. Without my designation I would not have the career with Potash that I have. The designation was required, as PCS recognizes the value it adds to the organization. As well, with the membership and networking opportunities that it provides, I have met many knowledgeable individuals that help grow and advance my career. My SCMA membership has opened up doors for me with business and career opportunities, and in creating global networks. It allows me to experience world-class education seminars and events.
