Where We Stand The RubberDucks and Harrisburg Senators sit atop the EL West with identical 2-0 records. Season Series Today s game is the 3 rd of 21 scheduled meetings between Akron and Bowie. The Ducks are 2-0 in the season series so far. The RubberDucks -Were postponed last night at Bowie. A make-up date has not yet been announced. -Have collected 21 hits in the series, including five extra-base hits. -Have not committed an error in either of the first two games. -Have made the EL playoffs 15 times, most recently in Player Notes -RHP Antonio Romero made his Double-A debut Friday night and retired all six batters he faced in the 8 th and 9 th to record the save. -1B Nellie Rodriguez was 2-5 with a double and grand slam. He now has five RBI in the series. -RF Clint Frazier doubled off the right field wall in the first inning and later ran into the same wall making a great catch against Bowie s Glynn Davis in the second inning. Frazier finished with three hits on the night. -LF Bryson Myles singled in a run, walked and stole a base. -SS Eric Stamets was 3-5, with an RBI and run scored. 2 Last Game Recap RubberDucks 10 Baysox 4 Friday, 4/8/16 Summary Nellie Rodriguez belted a grand slam, and Shawn Morimando worked six strong innings in his first start of the season, as the Akron RubberDucks defeated the Bowie Baysox, 10-4, Friday night at Prince George s Stadium. Turning Point The RubberDucks (2-0) held a 5-4 lead going to the ninth inning, but rallied to score five times off Bowie lefty Dennis Torres. After Torres walked in a run to make it 6-4, Rodriguez launched a grand slam to left field to blow the game open. It was Rodriguez s first homer of the year, and his second career grand slam in an Akron uniform. He was 2-5 on the night, also adding a double off the wall in the second inning. Winging It Morimando (1-0) was outstanding in his six innings of work. After allowing a two-run homer by Baysox first baseman Trey Mancini in the first inning, he allowed no further scoring. The 23-year-old lefty scattered four hits, walked three and struck out one. Reliever Antonio Romero earned his first save of the season by working the final two innings and retiring all six batters he faced. Duck Tales Akron battled back from the early 2-0 deficit with RBI singles by Bryson Myles in the second and Jeremy Lucas in the fourth. The Ducks took the lead for good in the fifth against David Hess (0-1) when Clint Frazier scored from third while Yandy Diaz was being tagged out in a rundown between first and second. Frazier was 3-4, with a double. Eric Stamets enjoyed another productive night, going 3-5, with an RBI. Notebook The RubberDucks had 11 hits and now have 21 in the first two games of the series Akron extended the lead to 5-2 in the sixth when Bowie right fielder Quincy Lattimore overran a fly ball by Todd Hankins for a three-base error, allowing Jordan Smith to score Stamets then drove in Hankins with a base hit Lattimore atoned in the eighth when he slugged a two-run homer off Jordan Cooper to make it 5-4 The Baysox (0-2) committed two errors, and now have five in the series Game time temperature was 50 degrees, but fell to 41 by the end of the game Time of game: 2:45 Attendance: 2,106. RubberDucks 2016 Field Staff #17 David Wallace, Manager A former catcher in the Indians minor league system, Wallace was named Akron s 15 th manager on December 20, The 2016 season is Wallace s third with the RubberDucks and sixth overall as a minor league manager. A former star football and baseball player at Vanderbilt University, Wallace enjoyed a seven-year minor league career, mostly with the Indians organization. He spent parts of three seasons as a player in Akron, appearing in 122 games with 17 homers and 54 RBI. After concluding his playing career, he spent two seasons as a major league staff assistant with the Indians before embarking on his managerial career with Mahoning Valley in #99 Tony Arnold, Pitching Coach A fixture in the Indians player development system for the last 24 years, the 2016 season marks Arnold s fourth stint as Akron pitching coach. He previously served in the same capacity from , 2008, and He began last season as the pitching coach at Class-A Lynchburg and finished at Triple-A Columbus, helping the Clippers to the International League title. Arnold s 2012 Akron Aeros staff crafted a franchise-record 3.03 ERA, and went on to claim the EL championship. A former All-American at the University of Texas, Arnold pitched in the major leagues with Baltimore in 1986 and #99 Steve Laker, Hitting Coach Laker returns to the Indians organization after spending the last five seasons as a coach and hitting coordinator in the Chicago White Sox system. A former Cleveland Indians catcher, Laker was a member of the Indians player development staff as the manager of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2007, and then the minor-league catching coordinator from He also served as the manager at AA Tennessee in the Mariners organization in After being drafted by Montreal in the sixth round of the 1988 draft out of Oxnard (CA) College, Laker went on to play parts of 11 seasons in the big leagues with the Expos, Orioles, Rays, Pirates and Indians, hitting a combined.226, with 11 homers and 79 RBI in 282 big league games. He appeared with the Indians as a player from Jeremy Heller, Trainer The 2016 season mark s Heller s third in Akron and his 12 th overall as a trainer in the Indians organization. He was named Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Carolina League in Scott Nealon, Strength and Conditioning Coach A native of Avon Lake, Ohio, and a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University, Nealon enters his sixth year as a strength coach in the Indians organization. He spent last season with Single-A Lynchburg. We Are the RubberDucks On October 29, 2013, team-owner Ken Babby stood before a capacity audience at the Akron Civic Theater and announced that the team would be known henceforth as the Akron RubberDucks. In addition to being symbolic of the fun, family-friendly brand of entertainment offered by minor league baseball, the name also honors Akron s long history as the Rubber Capital of the World. Brandiose Marketing of San Diego, California designed the team logo, colors, and various marks and insignias. Please note that for print coverage, RubberDucks is spelled as one word with a capital D. In broadcast coverage, referring to the team as the Ducks is an acceptable variation of the team s nickname.

RubberDucks to Host Eastern League All-Star Game July On May 19, 2015, The Akron RubberDucks announced that it has been selected by the Eastern League to host the 2016 Eastern League All-Star Game, set for Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Canal Park. This will be the first time the franchise has hosted the All-Star Game since it relocated to Northeast Ohio in The Eastern League All-Star festivities span two days, July 12-13, and will include a home run derby, autograph sessions, fireworks, and much more. A full schedule of events will be announced at a later date. Summa Health System is an official co-sponsor of the Eastern League All- Star Game and associated events. The All-Star Game is played between the top players from the Eastern League's Eastern and Western Divisions, with each team being represented with at least one pitcher and position player. The teams are selected through a combination of fan balloting and selections from managers, media, and team personnel. Tickets to the 2016 Eastern League All-Star Game are on sale now for July 13 game with the July 12 home run derby and accompanying events going on sale at a later date. Ticket prices are $18 for reserved seats, $10 for general admission, groups of 24 or more can get $15 reserved tickets, and Fowl Territory seats are $35, which includes a two-hour, all-you-can-eat picnic.
